@FaheemMitha The nearby lake was lowered some 150 years ago to create more farmland (we had a famine). The farmland uncovered was not as fertile as they would have hoped. It was probably used as farmland for a good while though, but in the 1990s it was converted into a nature reserve and bird sanctuary (and the water level somewhat artificially increased a bit again but not to old levels). It is usually quite wet, but it has also been raining a lot lately.
I'm expecting most of that water to go away during the summer.
@FaheemMitha It's certainly "marshy", but it's waterlogged farmland-turned-nature-reserve. Yes, there is a walk/cycle way around it (and through it). The path I take is about 7 km.
