@FaheemMitha That was a good suggestion and I managed to solve the problem (at least it looks like it). There was an update for network-manager in Debian Backports several weeks ago and I usually install backports to get new functionality. Unfortunately, there seems to be some problem with this. This thread on the Arch forum is discussing something similar but for a different network driver: bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=234725&p=3
I have now pinned network-manager and its dependencies to not install from backports.
Package: network-manager* libnma*
Pin: release a=stretch-backports
Pin-Priority: -10
in /etc/apt/preferences. Thanks again for your help!

@HenriMenke You're welcome.

Hello chat, I hope you're doing better than me

@Kiwy Something wrong? I hope it's not serious.

some kind of hangover but not really on, more like feeling hangovered without the alcohol drinking the day before
@FaheemMitha nothing too bad :D
just feeling awfully wrong

@Kiwy Oh, you're feeling unwell. Sorry to hear that. Have you checked with a doctor?

@FaheemMitha Nothing to do with any medical situation, probably more with the fact I'm doing too much stuff outside of work and do not sleep enough for more than 6 months :D

@Kiwy Sounds like you should get some reason, or you will actually become sick.
I hope your stress levels are not too high.

11:28 AM
@FaheemMitha well I guess it's pretty high but I tend to be a stressed guy, I'm kind of use to it.
and I know my limits I like to play with them :D
Sometime I win sometime I loose :D

@Kiwy Stress is bad for your health long term. And short term too.

1:52 PM
The bottom line is, try to keep stress levels low.

2:32 PM
Life ain't fun when you don't have some flame trying to burn your bottom :D
it probably depend on your definition of fun though

3:33 PM
@Kiwy That's definitely not my definition of fun. But then there are people who jump out of planes for fun, so people do vary.

3:50 PM
@FaheemMitha there people jumping out from plane without parachute to aim a small nest suspended over the ground in the middle of the desert I wish I did that it sounds like a lot of fun to me
I kind of love adrenaline

@Kusalananda In Linux world, we have user, group of users and policies assigned to a group.
In AWS, I see user, group of users and policies assigned to a group
Additionally AWS has something called role , where, role is similar to a user, in that it is an AWS identity with permission policies that determine what the identity can and cannot do in AWS.
where AWS Identity can be user, group etc...
During setup of Linux VM's, I did not see the purpose of setting roles unlike in AWS world

Q: IAM - Purpose of role identity in AWS

overexchangeOn-premise administration of Linux VM's, we create identity like user, group and assign policies to the group identity. We do not think about role identity. In AWS cloud, in addition to creating user & group identity, we also create role identity, with permission policies that determine what...

@overexchange I've never used AWS. I presume it's some form of higher level user management thing. I've never understood "roles". You get them in other management systems as well.

10:25 PM
@overexchange Questions about AWS are on topic on SO?

@Kusalananda Your role is to help lesser beings become greater than they are.
Voilà! "Role" explained by example!
;-) :D

@Fabby Who are you calling a lesser being?

Looks like, as the resources(computing/database/...) are physically/logically separate...we need roles...

11:02 PM
@FaheemMitha Me: I'm a gnome compared to a giant like you!
;-) :D

@Fabby You're funny.

I try to be... Sometimes I go too far though...
