To get the vim user-manual I am doing
vi test
and then, once the file is opened, I do
:help user-manual
This opens up a split window, which makes reading manual inconvenient to read. How do I only open the user-manual in the full window ?
I changed my hostname by editing /etc/hostname and can see the new hostname using the 'hostname' and 'hostname -F' commands.
But why is the shell prompt still showing the old hostname?

I have a PDF that consists of several hundred pages of bilingual text. Since I need to use OCR on each language separately, I want to grab the even and odd pages and make two separate PDFs, using convert or ghostscript. The language I want to do first is on the odd-numbered pages. What convert or...
I'm trying to setup my debian server to download email from a gmail account (e.g. forwarder@gmail.com) and then forward it to a 3rd party email. The reason I can't just setup email forwarding within gmail is because I need the headers to reflect that the email is coming from forwarder@gmail.com. ...
Please note that I don't ask how. I already know options like pv and rsync -P.
I want to ask why doesn't cp implement a progress bar, at least as a flag ?

@Gilles I think moving this question here was a good idea ... but did I misunderstand you that you knew the answer? I don't and I always feel particularly bad about questions that go unanswered after being migrated. It's rough enough on newbies to have their question shuffled around like a hot potato :)
My knowledge of how schedulers work is barely enough to even edit the question to fix up the rough edges.
@Caleb No, I don't know the answer. But it's close to other questions that had a good answer (and I don't mean from me), so I think here is a good place.
Actually I think SO would have been better, but this question didn't stand a chance.
And I fear SF would have been too applied, this question requires a solid understanding of the internals.
You're right, I don't think it would have lived on SF either, Heck if I wasn't feeling sympathetic or interested in the topic I may have voted to close it there as being irrelevant to the management of servers.
@Gilles No I don't actually think it is there are several counter-points. But when I first read it the bulletted question sounded like it came from somewhere other than the asker and he was trying to fill in around it.
I am running a FreeNAS (FreeBSD version) in DELL R310. But when i connect same USB stick which gets automatically mounted in CentOS/Fedora, but however in FreeBSD it does not.
How to troubleshoot this and make it work?
Is it possible to disable USB ports and CDRom and VGA output in the Dell R310 from CentOS or FreeBSD (without BIOS)?
A demo server is running in customer test labrotory, where they can simply get inside by putting a monitor and USB keyboard mouse. Which i do not want.
Is there any CentOS/FreeB...
