Hello. Bootloader and baseband software are going to be closed source in your phone. There is no going around them. So you cannot have 100% of the rest of the phone as open source. Then there is also the code in TEE. That would also be closed source. I think if you dig a bit you'll find that the best you can do to run open source code is the kernel and major parts of ROM.
.
You just have to blindly trust that this low level closed source software that you cannot replace would not do anything suspicious, and that it *cannot* be exploited either.
Hi. I know this is an old message I'm replying to, and you may have already left this issue behind. But I'm tempted to throw my 2 cents here. :)

if you can run VirtualBox (it is free to download/use and is FOSS -- I think) on your Windows 11 successfully, then install Mint or whichever Linux distro you'd prefer. It won't be as lightweight as WSL, but you can just plug-in Android device from there and do the adb or fastboot stuff, then close VirtualBox, and be done with it. No dual boot needed.

@Firelord, thanks 🙏 hope all well with you. I will Google "how to" but if you are aware of a good tutorial, it would help 😁
Is this the one? virtualbox.org

Hello. I'm good. Hopefully, you are well too. :)
Yes, that's the site.
Mind you. I don't use Win11. :P

Thanks @Firelord, I am doing OK.. Will give it a shot. Fortunately didn't have a problem in sideloading updates on Win 11, so need to motivate myself to try. Best to you

It might prove to be a bit of a hassle to get Virtualbox working on Win11. Might I say.
This is Win10 and Win11 specific problem per se. Virtualbox runs fine on a Linux machine right after installation.
If you get into error during installation of Virtualbox or when running a guest OS in it, then it might have to do with Hyper-V.
Once you get past this problem things would be smooth and straight-forward. Click, click, click, done.
BTW, what are your PC's specs? Interested in total RAM, CPU model and storage device only.

@beeshyams Senior Citizen. Finally. :)
Does your system respond swiftly? Like it doesn't lag. It doesn't hang or anything?
If it does. Forget about Virtualbox(VB).
I'm saying this because VirtualBox would run a guest OS inside your host Win11. And to run guest OS resources need to be allocated too.
So if your system is under-performing than it is not worth it to run VB because that would further slow things to a crawl.

Yes, was reading about problems on Win11. Firstly running on a win 11 host is not supported yet, as per Oracle help and only recently they fixed win 11 VM working on other hosts, so not trying it yet//for my limited needs, it's damn fast //senior citizen is disappointed (no railway concession courtesy Covid, that's the thing I was looking forward to). Airfare, long covered by Veteran discount

Alright than. Leave this task on a to-do-when-bored list for now. Might not be worth it to spend time if needs are limited.

Yes, not only needs but till compatibility is assured by Oracle// Thanks for letting me know!
