It's probably buggy/unstable and the reason why it's not included in the first place with the original ROM. Very little you can do about it except wait for new ROMs to be released (that hopefully fix this)

So your Huawei's Android doesn't recognize the thumb drive? I.e., it's not shown in the settings? Hmm.

That was what i originally meant by "format it with your phone then". I.e. use the settings option in the 'storage' section

Here's my mkfs.vfat command

It's a symlink to busybox, so it's part of busybox, you can also try to run it using 'busybox mkfs.vfat' optionally:
shell@android:/ $ busybox mkfs.vfat
BusyBox v1.20.2-jb bionic (2012-07-27 02:57 +0200) multi-call binary.

Usage: mkfs.vfat [-v] [-n LABEL] BLOCKDEV [KBYTES]

Make a FAT32 filesystem

-v Verbose
-n LBL Volume label

I'm not sure if it has some limitations though (on the max media size it can handle)

Exactly. I only have 2 phones, both running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x). AFAIK USB host was introduced with Honeycomb (3.x), and thus on phones would not be available bevore ICS (4.x).

I see. I rawly followed your issues with the Y cable (and now get another idea what the background obviously was: The phone was not manufactured to support it, power-wise). So what you flashed probably was a patch -- I guess it contains some kernel modul(s).

Q: Merge ext2, ext3, ext4 to extfs (and synonymize)?

Each of the ext-tags alone is not that much frequented currently. We have: ext2 (x5), ext3 (x2) and ext4 (x8). Shouldn't we merge them together into a new extfs, and convert the 3 old ones into synonyms? Or do they really make sense stand-alone?

yeah, sure. I'm not 100% sure myself and will change my mind maybe (merge those 2 and add another 'hard-reboot' tag for example). I just see it the way @Matt does.

Do those 4 Q's use it properly then?

@Izzy: Hmm, thinking again, maybe use "hard-reboot" if the casual user (and we have plenty of those 1st time askers) associates it with "factory-reset" rather than pulling-the-battery-to-reset-a-lockup

Ooops? Did I? Just chasing my Mail client at the moment (Evolution). After disabling some of its plugins (to figure out why it is so hell slow), it now doesn't even load my main accounts anymore :(
