Broadcasting on all channels: How do I know whether the screen is locked? I want to use screen lock as a profile in Tasker. I can perform the tasks when the display is unlocked but the invert option isn't available. The workaround is to use Screen off profile, but it is reliable if only screen lock is set to immediate when the screen turns off.
@Parthi Hi!

2 hours later…
8:53 AM
@Firelord I've never played with that (at least not this way), but did you take a look at the SecureSettings plugin?
I remember having seen a couple of "recipes" using that.

9:13 AM
@Izzy Sorry, forgot to write that the solution is required for an unrooted device. I did try Secure Settings on a rooted Lollipop device but I don't see such option. I was working on my answer here when I found that issue.

9:38 AM
@Firelord This may not be the best solution, but you can use the 'Screen off' state, and in the entry task, tell Tasker to Wait for how long you've set your screen lock delay, then check if the variable %SCREEN is still set to 'off'.

10:01 AM
@Firelord Oh, Lollipop – no experience with that, so count me out :)

10:40 AM
@Arielle Thanks! I after posing my comment figured it out (sleep XY command) but didn't test it until you comment it here and oblige me to respond to it. I acknowledged your contribution on my answer now. :D
@Izzy Nope, I'm not counting you out. It's Tasker I asked not a Lollipop feature. :D

@Firelord You don't even need to use the shell command. Tasker has an action for it.

@Arielle I took care of it in the answer.

What's with this answer?

@Arielle It's a common deal here, people using leet language, asking question in place of answers, sometimes ranting, and whatnot. Just flag it as "not an answer" and optionally downvote, (leave a comment in case you want to let the poster know the mistake).

Heh, I can't downvote. I have 124 rep, and you need 125 for that.

11:00 AM
@Arielle Couldn't resist my own comment on it #D Marked for deletion (I don't have the power of "Thor's hammer", I can only "mark", not really "delete").
@Firelord Oh f*** … #D

@Izzy LOL, Did I sound funny there? That poster has serious issues. :D

@Firelord You just left me no easy way out :) Still, as I wrote: I might know a lot of things about Tasker – but that doesn't necessarily mean I've tried them all. In this case, I can only provide guesses (which I did). Afraid I cannot help further. But I've upvoted your answer for being as detailed and thorough as we've learned your answers to be :)

@Arielle Now you've more than what is required.

11:15 AM
@Firelord and another 10 :)

Already downvoted them :P

@Izzy I'm yet to read it until I provide next 10.
@Arielle Then @Izzy is left to do that owner. :P

@Arielle LOL While that takes away from your rep as well, you'll get that back as soon as the answer gets deleted.

I wonder what it'd be like if Android's error messages were actually written like that. "Settings isnt respondin'. Would ya liek 2 close it?"

@Firelord Nah, that is left to the mods. I already voted to delete the post (requires a few more "regular votes" or a mod swinging "Thor's hammer") and flagged it "NAA" (not-an-answer), so it should be in the review queue for others to chime in.
@Arielle I bet there's an Xposed module for that. IIRC I've even seen it :)

11:20 AM
There is. The aptly-named Xposed Custom Error.

@Izzy Yeah! I thought that considering that you're privileged to vote to delete. And you know what, that user is worked up. See the new comment. LOL

At least one to rename your "toggle switches" from "on/off" to what you like (e.g. "Yeah/Nah!" :)
… or "Yay/Eeek!" #D

@Izzy Didn't know about that one. Xposed Custom Error just replaces the ANR/FC messages.

@Firelord Uh? I've got no "ping". Lemme check "upstairs" in chat for the link …
@Arielle Check my Xposed collection‌, I might have mentioned it there.
Yuck. I've flagged that comment "rude/offensive". Guess the entire thing will be gone soon (maybe along with that user, which seems to be working toward suspension).

"plain English"
"dat"
Pick one.
@Izzy I can't find that module anywhere on that site, unless the feature is part of one of those "settings"/"toolbox" modules.

11:31 AM
What are the odds that user could be nuked?

Pretty sure it's highly unlikely for them *not* to at least get a temporary ban.
And I made a comment in that thread as well.
New theory: Accounts trisha and justin bryenton were created by the same person. They were just so impatient that they posted an NAA just to 'bump' that thread.

@Arielle I'm not sure whether I'd included it. There are some things I usually don't list, and this one border-lines such an area (trivial/just funny).
@Firelord Working towards that. If a mod sends that user a note, and that behavior continues nevertheless, it usually means "account suspension".

@Izzy I've seen many users (including some 20k ones as well) on SE network using the word thread now that @Arielle has mentioned it, I wonder whether this word really fits on a Q/A site like we've got. This word is usually associated with post on the forums, so I rather try to not use it. What do you say?

@Arielle Possible. Mods will see that (e.g. IP check in the logs – something we can't see).

I know, I know - I should have said 'question' instead

11:45 AM
@Firelord I agree, but what to do? We should avoid it, but we can't force others to do so. The same "many users" refer to our site as "this forum" …

@Arielle I'm not accusing you. haha
@Izzy Yeah! "This forum" -- I've seen it in the comments recently.

@Firelord Still, thanks for pointing that out.

@Arielle The question itself is unclear and very low quality, so I won't be surprised if the whole page is deleted for some reason. It's like OP was writing but forgot the details after the word "unable".

11:59 AM
@Izzy Is this the module you were talking about?

12:26 PM
@Arielle Nah. Rather ON/OFF Switches Name Changer. Just saw there's also Custom Text ;)
@Arielle LOL I like the AV part :) Btw: voted to close the Q as being unclear as well.

12:46 PM
Custom Text is really... weird to use
Plus, it doesn't seem to work at all

1:09 PM
Everyone is welcome to comment, and @Izzy, because you seem to be the only long-time Android Enthusiasts user in Chat right now: Do we have a data or any consensus, when a new user visits "Ask Question" page the "How to Ask" section really is looked upon by that user or it affects them in any way? // I myself tend to ignore inadvertently anything that is in left/right pane, and I personally don't find that box helping to understand even briefly what's on/off-topic here.
// It says "asking help" but "help" in traditional sense by lots of people is considered as something you need or provide when there is a demand of some kind of assistance. When a user comes to this site, I don't think they would even remotely think that they need any assistance as in help in framing their question, be it on/off-topic, other than to receive a working answer. So that section, as it seems to me, isn't serving a good purpose.

2:03 PM
@Firelord There's a badge to be earned by that AFAIK (at least there's one for absolving the tour; I'm not sure whether there was one for absolving the entire help section). Let me check my badges over at RasPi: Before I asked my first question there, I've checked with the on-topic page :)

2:13 PM
OK, you get the "Informed" badge for absolving the tour. Seems there's no badge for having read the help/on-topic.
There was the "Analytical" badge: "Visited every section of the FAQ (retired)"
@Firelord If I wanted to know how a site works and what's special to it, and it has a "help" link – that's the first thing I'd check. Second would be "FAQ", if it's there (e.g. how to figure out if my question was already raised).

1 hour later…
3:27 PM
@Izzy Sorry! It didn't help me to get to the point. May be I was not clear. // See me as an unregistered or a just registered new user. Now, I've no intention to see how the site works because I'm here to write PLS HELP among other things in my Android related question, and that is the only goal (don't you know I came here because I'm frustrated; wait until you see my frustration in my tangled question).
I've already found the site special (because I dislike researching, in fact I don't even care why research matters, so whatever popped up first in Google search I posted there considering that if Google popped it up first or in first few results then it must be real good!).
As said earlier, "help" traditionally means assistance and I, the new user, don't need assistance in asking the question, right! I'm the champion that whatever and how badly I'll write it will be accepted since I don't see that similar yellow dialog which popup when I try answering a question, telling me what I should do and avoid specifically, (hint: dialog seems to be missing on "Ask Question" page) . "Just let me know if you need assistance in knowing my Android model and version" .
// Oh, FAQ, nah, that's a long list of general questions, and mine is unique because I know it's unique! --- Now, I don't really think those were the traits of stupid users. I've been witnessing a lot of similar stuff from a month or so, and I don't think "Ask question" is guiding them good.
It's true that my point about that yellow dialog isn't very strong since we do see people posting question and irrelevant stuff as answer daily, but at least we know in those cases that the user tried to deliberately disrespect the rules. But when it comes to asking question, they don't see rules, so the first auto-assumption is of no restriction on asking any Android related question (be it development, programming, recommendation, carrier plans, count any off-topic reason).
See, there's not even a hint what one should avoid asking. All I see is "We prefer questions that can be answered, not just discussed. Provide details. Share your research."

To be honest, I haven't noticed that 'How to Ask' box up until now. Maybe it should also be more... visible, I guess?

4:15 PM
@Izzy This question may be featuring a software meant for development but the problem at hand is low disk space in the Android studio, which seems to fall under Android specific issue. Any reason for disagreement?

@Firelord I'd think yes. Android Studio is a Windows app rather than an Android app, so this question isn't related to Android itself.

@Arielle In that case, many of the questions here shouldn't be there at all. :)
@JaskaranbirSingh Not seeing much answers, you seem to be very busy in your project. Anyhow, you might wanna see this question. Oh, forgot to write the last time, good luck for the project!

5:00 PM
Here's another weird answer. Looks like that user started to type in their native language, then halfway through, they realized they're on an English website.

@Arielle Combine the translation here with the English part of the answer, and it gets weirder.

5:19 PM
@Firelord hi there and thanks :D Yeah actually I am kinda busy with that. Its a project for a school competition so I keep trying to add more features to it.

@JaskaranbirSingh If it's an Android app, I can help with that. If you want.
Also, the formatting in this question reminds me of haikus

Hehe thanks firelord but I would like to win this competition on my own knowledge (if I win that is) :) Though regarding that question, sorry I too kinda didnt get it... I mean, booting to stock recovery is kind of strange (I havent played around with samsung either). Maybe he should try with an older version of odin (I have been seeing people to have problems with newer versions on xda).

umm... I'm not Firelord

lol didn't see... my bad :p sorry about that

@JaskaranbirSingh LOL :P

5:26 PM
@Firelord If a user has shut off his brains before coming here, I don't expect him to switch it back on anyhow. As strong as you might try, it won't work. And btw, there's also the [help/dont-ask] page.

@Izzy I see what you mean but not every person who comes to this is supposed to be aware of the rules, policies and etiquette we deal with. Take a look at this recent comment. This is what exactly I said in that lengthy note here.

@Arielle Meta is full of such requests. In the past, they didn't prove to work. As @Firelord wrote, they even ignore the "yellow box" if there is one. On my old bug reporter (for my projects) I had even a red box for that, still got ignored. Again, citing Firelord indirectly: "If I'm so special and my issue is so unique, who the f*** are you telling me how I should ask?"
@Firelord Yes, strong objections: Android Studio doesn't run on Android – as even @Arielle noticed (no offense, Arielle: I'm rather referring here to you being the "youngest member" to this site, from us 3)

@Izzy LOL, did I really use that strong word? Citations have been hacked.

@Firelord Wait, let me adjust your original post #D
Yuck. I'm no mod, so I can't …
@Firelord Ack. Kill them :)
@Firelord OMG …

@Izzy I see. I'm not familiar with any Desktop app used for running Android or parts of it for any purpose, other than using Android ISO. So, does Eclipse and bluestacks questions also tend to be off-topic, or do they run Android?
@Izzy Yes, could you solve it? :D

5:37 PM
@Firelord Yes, sure. And that's not the first of its kind. But however you will do it, someone will complain. A popup on first "Ask question"? Most people will just close it. Others might simply feel annoyed and ask what kindergarden this is …
@Firelord Eclipse is an IDE for development, and thus off-topic. Bluestacks is different, that's an Emu to run Android apps on Windows.
@Firelord That one? Yes: flagged it NAA, and left a note ("Me too").

@Izzy Thanks for the all the replies, and I would like to know on that comment about kindergarden: is that an opinion or a tested community wisdom? Could you please let me know at least one good post where I can see such consensus?

@Firelord Based on experience. Unfortunately I have no link at hand (just trying to catch-up with what happened all around while I was AFK), checking on Meta should bring up more than one question.
