@waxeagle Shifting rooms... Did anything get resolved on this? Should I ask somewhere else?

@JonEricson I'm not sure. Let me try it

On another topic: I finished a draft on my contraception article. Should I submit it for review? I'd like someone to look at it and point out any problems.

7:32 PM
@JonEricson yes please.

@waxeagle Done. Don't hold back the criticism!

@JonEricson :). I'll take a look. @ElendiaStarman volunteered to actually edit. Also content is up to you guys as long as its topical I'm refraining from exercising editorial control...

Hey @JonEricson, how is this project coming along? I love this idea and I'd really love to contribute if at all possible...
I'm Jewish, but I can write about the Bible and fundamental religious issues which are pertinent to Jews and Christians alike.

9:45 PM
@Ami Well, you could answer this question: meta.christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/900/…
@Everyone: May I introduce you to my friend, Ami, who is among my favorite contributors to BH.SE.

Hi!
@Ami welcome to our blog room.

Ami
@waxeagle, thank you. @JonEricson, I'm working on formulating an answer now.

A: Eschewmenical blog

AmiI consider myself fairly well read on the philosophical issues of faith and religious commitment. I would love to write a series of blog posts on this topic where I survey Christian thinkers, Jewish thinkers and others (eg: Kierkegaard, Newman, Pascal, James, Descartes, Hume, etc.).

Would that be on topic?

@Ami Peter did ask for non-christian, but of goodwill contributors and you certainly fit that mold.
Have you seen our list of topics?
I'm not sure if you will want to participate in all of them. We are going to have "Easter" in March and "What is the church?" in April.
So I'm not sure if you would be interested in either of those topics.

Ami
10:00 PM
I'm interested in the "What is the nature of Biblical authority?" topic.
BruceAlderman's answer has topics that are relevant to religious sensitivities in general.
(@JonEricson, thank you for the flattering compliments.)

@Ami (It would only be flattery if they weren't true. ;-)

Ami
I'm stepping away from the computer for awhile, but I'll be back later today. I'm excited to see how this project develops.

10:36 PM
@ami nice to meet you, yeah, I think in an abstract way, a scholarly look at things would sort of represent a legit viewpoint which would fit in pretty well with what we're trying to accomplish.

A: What topics should we run on the Eschewmenical blog?

AmiMorality in Religion and the Bible This is a topic I'm very interested in. The format of my post would be a survey/organization of the various philosophical positions that find voice within Christian and Jewish literature and how these various perspectives read pertinent biblical texts. Some B...

11:20 PM
Hey @JonEricson, so each blog post is supposed to represent a unique doctrinal perspective?

@Ami That's the idea. Each month we'd run at least 4 perspectives and (hopefully) cover most of the angles.

Ami
Are there well defined doctrinal positions on broad philosophical issues? eg: do Catholics have a well defined position on the role of intuitive morality in the Bible?
or are broad philosophical issues totally off topic?

@Ami Catholics would probably be interested in Aquinas and Augustine. There might be some fun questions about philosophy.
But it would probably be once in a blue moon that we'd cover anything so broad. What do you think @Peter?

Ami
Interesting...I can't contribute a specific Christian perspective on any issue. In theory I could offer a Jewish perspective, but Judaism in so full of contradiction and debate that I don't know of any uniquely Jewish perspectives on anything.

@waxeagle Just so everyone is clear, I'll do syntax and grammar editing for the most part. I'll do my best to not change any meaning without telling the original author.

11:26 PM
@Ami I'm in a similar position as an Evangelical. Maybe I can point you to a (rough) draft of my contraception article.

Ami
I would love to read your article because I'm interested in the topic (and it would be helpful to me).

Ami
thanks
My interests lie in broad philosophical issues that are pertinent to religion in general...I'm not sure if that's a genre you want to have on the blog.

I'm changed a few things near the end and added some more on WP, but I don't think I can point you there yet.
@Ami It might be good to have a Jewish perspective on contraception if it's different enough from the other posts. Some of the other topics (if we run them) might benefit from a non-Christian perspective too. I'm not sure what others think, however.

Ami
@JonEricson, you have a fascinating reading of Song of Songs (2:7) that I never heard before.

11:32 PM
@ElendiaStarman That sounds good. I'd also like to know if anything strikes you as unclear, but I appreciate any suggestions at all.
@Ami Oh. I've been meaning to ask about it on BH. But I haven't been able to think about a question that doesn't funnel into the answer I already have. ;-)

@JonEricson I'll do that too.

Ami
We only have one S.O.S. questions on BH, which is a shame since it's one of my favorite books.
I'll probably have to wait some time and see the direction this blog takes before being able to judge if I can make valuable contributions. @JonEricson, thanks for sending your piece - I love it. ttyl.

@Ami You made my day. Thanks.

@JonEricson: Just finished my first read. Nothing glaring. Now for a second pass... :P

@ElendiaStarman Do you have access to the WP version?

11:42 PM
@JonEricson I...don't think so?

You might need to be logged in. (In fact, I'm sure of it.) I can copy what I have there back to Google docs if you like.

Yes, I can see it.

@ElendiaStarman Awesome. That's the version I hope to run on the blog.

@JonEricson Gotcha.
> There aren’t a lot of texts that address the issue since, until recently, contraception was unreliable, unscientific, and (among Hebrews at least) rare.
I personally would rewrite that as "Until recently, contraception was unreliable, unscientific, and (among Hebrews at least) rare. Hence, there aren't a lot of texts that address the issue."
That's really up to your style though.
Also, right before your Song of Songs reference, you capitalized both words in "High School". As you're not using it as a title or a name, those words should be lower-cased.
@JonEricson: PING! :P

@ElendiaStarman Thanks. Let me see...
@ElendiaStarman Yes. That's a good point.
@ElendiaStarman I don't think to use "hence". I've been trying to mix in "thus" once in a while too. ;-)
@ElendiaStarman Yes, I like your version better.
