Q: Are questions about specific open source projects on-topic?

KozuchAre questions about specific open source projects on-topic? I mean questions like: Why is project X the way it is and not other? Where can I get support for project Y? Why did project A split into B and C? I know these would be better answered by particular projects but (1) there may be users...

Hallooooooo! :D

Hi!

Who else is here?

Hi.

Oh hello :D
Quick question for you guys... Is this a right review?

@Zizouz212 emacs -> Emacs is definitely fine, but I can't find anything on the official GNU Emacs page to figure out if the other part is accurate or not.

3:57 PM
Yeah, he did another edit after I reviewed...

Oh, from Wikipedia:

I just feel like I shouldn't go out and approve it: My job is to let people make posts pretty, not see if the information is right

@Zizouz212 The writing of Emacs is corrected (but pretty much meaningless). Working on free software is more fitting for RMS, as he invented the term free software. It still is also open source, so the comment is not right. Overall seems ok

> Stallman rejects a common alternative term, open source software, because it does not call to mind what Stallman sees as the value of the software: freedom.

Still, I rejected it...

3:58 PM
@HDE226868 Exactly, insofar free software is more fitting in this case, but still, whatever stallman thinks, Emacs is also Open Source. :-)

On the grounds that it conflicts with the author's intent. I'm not there to say if information is right or wrong. We have voting and that's the author's choice to change

In this case.
I would say reject the edit, because it doesn't matter what Stallman wants to call the software.
I think.

Is the question mentioned in meta.stackexchange.com/questions/217610/… salvageable?

4:40 PM
Anyone?

I'm thinking
The answer is pretty obvious, hardware development is much more complicated and more expensive than software development
But how can the question be, without being to much opinion-based or too broad?
Maybe we should ask about the assumption in this question first: Does open hardware attract contributors in similar speed as did open source software early on?

6:06 PM
@Pandya Thanks. Could you make that an answer? Make an abstract about the content and link to the site. That should be fine.
Hmm
Eric Gärtner still on war:

6:30 PM
@Mnementh You should ask that as a question. (regarding this)

7:08 PM
@HDE226868 I'm the only one who asked questions today so far - someone else can go forward.

7:59 PM
@HDE226868: After I remembered Thingiverse I'm not so sure anymore, that open hardware really grows slower than open software. But the question is, what should be included. Most stuff on thingiverse are simple 3D-objects, no electronics, no different components...
So should Hardware in the question only be about electronic stuff? Maybe...

8:42 PM
@Mnementh I don't see why really
as long as it adheres the the open source ideas...
We want to be a place that encourages all things open and free, no?
