@Zizouz212 The writing of Emacs is corrected (but pretty much meaningless). Working on free software is more fitting for RMS, as he invented the term free software. It still is also open source, so the comment is not right. Overall seems ok

@HDE226868 Exactly, insofar free software is more fitting in this case, but still, whatever stallman thinks, Emacs is also Open Source. :-)

The answer is pretty obvious, hardware development is much more complicated and more expensive than software development

But how can the question be, without being to much opinion-based or too broad?

Maybe we should ask about the assumption in this question first: Does open hardware attract contributors in similar speed as did open source software early on?

@HDE226868: After I remembered Thingiverse I'm not so sure anymore, that open hardware really grows slower than open software. But the question is, what should be included. Most stuff on thingiverse are simple 3D-objects, no electronics, no different components...

So should Hardware in the question only be about electronic stuff? Maybe...
