@beeshyams I haven't tested your answer, but I repro'd the issue on the latest Chrome. Will investigate the created intent with the logcat...
For Wikipedia, without any flags set, it opens the Main Page of Wikipedia. This is tested on Pixel Launcher though
Nexus 5, LOS 14.1 (7.1.2), Chrome 83, Pixel Launcher
Creating a Browse URL task with Tasker works well with Chrome though

@AndrewT. Thanks for your interest. Please do test and give us your developer view. As you know I am a surface skimmer and these things are beyond me :).

Found it... more complicated than I thought. It's due to PWA (Progressive Web App) and its Manifest, and also partially Wikipedia's fault too...

@AndrewT. You lost me but good you zeroed on to something. Does the solution fix the issue?

@beeshyams I haven't tested it, but it... shouldn't, so I'm also confused why you could make a home screen directly to that with Chrome :S
did you create the homescreen shortcut with Wikipedia's desktop link, or mobile's?
(trying your answer now for confirmation...)

7:17 AM
@AndrewT. Using Chrome, that is, mobile, answer has videos too, since D-zap disputed
Normally, I don't add videos to answers

Yeah, I just watched the video, and it amused me... either I'm still missing something...

Here's what I tried - changed the flag, opened wiki page, picked a random link in text, opened that, created a shortcut via Chrome, closed the page, went to shortcut, clicked it to open the sub page. Whereas for OP when not in desktop mode, the shortcut cut points to main page (not the sub page) and obviously that is opened. Will be away for a little more than a hour

Okay, thanks, I'll experiment with other sites first

@AndrewT. Back on line

Welcome back :)
I'll write an answer later to explain what I've understood until now

@AndrewT. Thanks and will upvote that & probably delete mine - yours will be far more comprehensive

@AndrewT. Thanks, upvoted . want to check if you tried my solution and it worked or not? TIA

@beeshyams unfortunately, didn't work on my case too...
though perhaps... unless you're using some privacy modules to modify user-agent?

@AndrewT. I tried using them but they never worked. Anyway, it's good that it is confirmed as NOT working. Why it works for me is for a different day , but for now will delete the answer
And leave a note to OP
It's possible that something else is at play , not UA, though I can't think of it. I was so sure it is working fine that i did screen recording :)

Yeah, that's why I'm still wondering why your Chrome could bypass the manifest...

Oh that's because Chrome knows it's me :)

:D

Thanks for a good answer

No problem, it's actually an interesting issue

Yes . Take care . Stay safe

You too ;)

Sure
