@izzy: Meh..I know nothing about that except what was suggested when the question was first posted. Thanks though. I did spend some time reviewing latest Xposed miss post rooting device and nothing to report. Back to my question - am I in a minority who is trying to have the cake and eat it too :-). At one level Magisk rooting is great to beat safety check but Xposed is a bunch of goodies that seem to be denied.
Probably the solution lies in doing updates once a quarter to reduce the work flow of - 1. Flashing stock 2. Rooting again 3. Restoring /data from Nandroid previously made, if it works 4. If it doesn't set up Magisk and Nandroid again and use TiBu to restore settings. Or simpler go for custom ROM - RR became official today and Lineage is still unofficial. Not much development due to delays in Kernel sources and A/B partition

@beeshyams As soon as you install Xposed (systemless or not), SafetyNet check will fail AFAIK. So no need to check Xposed modules.
