@beeshyams Guess it's just hard to answer that one. IMHO it's not just "app based versus USB" – and even your "Difficulty in unrooting" is not necessarily the fault of "app based" in general.

From a security point of view: if there's an app that can root my device – who says another app doesn't just do that without my consent? We all know there's malware out there doing exactly that (in order to integrate itself as system app, to be protected against factory-reset).

However, if there's no such app (and in the hope that's because it cannot be done by an app on this device/ROM), it's much harder for such malware. If then there's an easy method via USB, I feel a little safer :)

@beeshyams Not that we can do anything about that, though. You can check that before buying a device – but who says such an app doesn't pop up the day after?

@izzy. Valid again. Kindly post as answer. May help others think before opting for such apps. BTW recall one of the Samsung models where official (if you can call it that) was an app by chainfire but using Odin

@izzy. If you have time, here is one person who in a separate question took need of NOT flashing ROM meant for a divergent device. But now landed in trouble. Guess it can be resolved through adb but I am clueless.If you can help him android.stackexchange.com/questions/132033/…

@beeshyams Saw that. Only thing I can say on it: I'd wonder if Android File Transfer would work (cannot unless device booted up, requires MTP).

I really know my ways to find out, but this one leads to a dead end. Name suggests an official core perm, but nowhere are details to be found. How do those devs know they need that permission?

Sometimes I think one starts inventing it, then all jump train. Finally we end up with a permission that never existed but is declared in every second app.

That at least would explain things …

All I found on that one is it's used (and known to) several Huawei devices – oh, Andrew just found the same :)
