@MassimoOrtolano I feel the same as you---embarking a research career by self-exploration without much guidance takes incredibly longer time to work out a publishable research result, if one can, than starting it with a good guide. It feels like a floundering process during which one feels great uncertainity about the consequence. But some principal investigators don't think so---they like to let their students explore on their own without giving much guidance.

doing it on your own has the price to pay---time.

@CaptainBohemian FYI, that picture (and many like it) seems to be misquoting Einstein. Apparently it's a quote from Wayne Dyer, a self-help author.
