Hello, everyone here. Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it.
@EddieKal Hey, you free?

Q: Should we encourage/discourage such indolent behaviour from users?

Dhanishtha GhoshToday I came across these two questions, this one and this one, where the questioner has simply attached the photo, or may I say screenshot, of the whole page, which essentially appears to be on a phone. One of our main practice here is to add the references (and sources), but shouldn't users tak...

@DhanishthaGhosh Yeah what's up?
@DhanishthaGhosh Happy Thanksgiving!

@EddieKal No actually I wanted some suggestions about the meta post that I have posted. I thought I would just discuss it here with you. But it would be good to hear varied opinion about the same. Hence I went on to post a meta question.
I don't know why the notifications about these chats aren't prompted in my box. I was about to leave, thankfully I dropped in here.

@DhanishthaGhosh I would suggest slightly changing your thesis in that post. It is obvious such behavior is problematic and it is very helpful of you to bring it up. But central to the issue is probably how we can discourage such behavior

@EddieKal I thought about it first, to directly ask that, but then again it would wrong to just assume that this might be labelled as bad practice. Hence I asked this question first. Does my question depict both the views?
Hey @AIQ. Good to see you here. I believe it is my first time talking to you.

@DhanishthaGhosh Checking that user's posts, I can see this has happened before. Hmm, I have written several comments in the past advising them on this issue.
It seems to be just one user, so I am a little concerned your post might be viewed as singling them out or picking on them. But you did explain the issue pretty well. Let's if the community can pitch in and help that user change their ways

5:36 PM
@EddieKal Oh, I did not check their profile for more questions, since I got a couple of them just today.

@DhanishthaGhosh If you are in a chat room, you get notified instantly, even of messages pinging you in another room. But if you are not currently in any chat room, chat notifications usually have a 15-20 minute delay to push to your notification tab
@DhanishthaGhosh There are also deleted posts that only mods can see

@EddieKal I am not sure if it is one or many users, I just thought this was wrong. Also, I am definitely not picking on someone. Why will I do that? Don't I have some other work!
@EddieKal Oh the privileges! I want to be mod someday, for sure.

@DhanishthaGhosh Yeah, I know that. Don't worry about it. I am just saying we could try to approach this with a little more tact. You did great.

@EddieKal You have closed one or two such question/s over a month or two ago, which involved such similar cause. Now I am not sure if it belonged to the same user or someone else entirely.
@EddieKal Aha. I see. Will remember that. I was actually on the main site from where I came here.

@DhanishthaGhosh Your post is absolutely on the nose: we need to address this because you are right that this is not an isolated case. There have been in the past few months several users, mostly new users whose posts I had to close and/or comment under telling them to stop posting screenshots
Let me try and find some other examples and include them in your meta post
Gimme a minute.

5:49 PM
@EddieKal That would be very hectic. There are so many questions on this site, how will you refine them?

@DhanishthaGhosh Well, there are ways :)

@EddieKal The case of new users can't be solved soon, since many of them do not know the working of SE. However, an experienced user should avoid these, including the ones who are active or have been on other SE sites if not here, and know what is what and how should they be used.

6:07 PM
@EddieKal I included one example which I found in one of the posts I had answered. I have included that. You can continue that queue. Also, if you find it odd for the examples to be placed at top, feel free to organize/format it.

@DhanishthaGhosh Sounds good. I am going to do it later.

@EddieKal No problem. Thank you.

@DhanishthaGhosh Thank YOU for bringing it up!
