@skullpatrol Not yet, I will when I go home, I am outside now - but damn - that seems like a mistake (putting on more weight to have more power in the punches) - a mistake that Ruiz regretted making quite a bit...

good point
and who knows how much their weights are going to change overnight?

Especially because Fury's whole boxing arsenal is based on his swift movement. Ruiz at least was a heavy puncher from the very start - that has not been Fury's style like ever.
But these guys gonna make more money in one night than I ever can in a whole life time.

I was amazed how Ruiz had the stamina to go the full 12 with AJ...
...otoh, if it was a 15 round fight; who knows what could've happened?

On second thought, the past perfect seems okay even in the event where you're talking to the person for the first time after not having seen them for a while. Something like "I'd never seen that before" – said seconds after seeing something for the first time. Idk why I didn't like, think of that. I'm not interested in that new convoluted or whatever context above, though.
But ya in an actual context where you're talking about some past things... That would be an okay use of the past perfect as a way to establish some state in the past using some action that happened before that.
You're basically narrating at that point.
The students hadn't seen Prof. Snape in a while and were beginning to worry he was up to something.

Q: Had done vs. done beforehand

John Arvinwhen it comes to SHOWING which went first between TWO past events, what is the difference of using HAD done to done beforehand. For example: I had read books before I took the examination. Vs. I read books beforehand before I took the examination OR I read books first before I took...
