Q: Why there is no number 13 in Formula 1?

Dirty-flowWhy is number 13 not used in Formula 1? Is it just superstition? Was the number ever used?

Is it just me or is this Bulls series going to be the toughest one the Heat face this year in the playoffs?

2 hours later…
user46190
4:40 PM
@waxeagle these Bulls are tough....I'll give them a lot of credit, but I still think the Heat wins it all.

@edmastermind29 yep. The Bulls are simply an amazing team, for as many health issues they have had, they have a lot of guys who just get it done.

user46190
@waxeagle Joakim Noah with a foot injury, Luol Deng ill, Nate Robinson sparking the offense (like he always does, not sure why teams haven't held on to him), Derrick Rose out until after the second coming of Jesus...they're going to play tough

user46190
@waxeagle exactly. this is the Heat's to lose...and they shouldn't if they show any heart. at least the Bulls win this series in terms of heart.

@edmastermind29 well, we know the Heat can pump up the intensity and heart. We saw that last year in the Pacer's series. I think getting knocked in the teeth first game of this round will mean they come back with a vengeance tonight

user46190
@waxeagle no doubt about that. playing at their best, nobody can beat them. since Westbrook's out for OKC and since the Spurs are old...only the Bulls can stop them imo from getting another title...other than themselves.

user46190
4:47 PM
@waxeagle they had a 27 game winning streak during the regular season. means nothing in the playoffs. this comes from a Broncos fan :D

@edmastermind29 Agreed. The Pacers aren't there yet, the Knicks just aren't a good enough team to do it. Golden State and Memphis won't get out of this round...
@edmastermind29 you can't win a championship in the regular season*..
*college football excepted

user46190
@waxeagle Pacers got Paul George...he's gonna be good, but they are still a young squad and they still have tons of room for development.

user46190
@waxeagle Melo is a premier player in the league. however, they leave guys out there on cold streaks...and Melo shoots more than Kobe atm.

@edmastermind29 I think what the Pacers are doing is fantastic, they gave Miami a serious run for their money last year, and they are an exciting young team.

user46190
@waxeagle until 2014? haha

4:50 PM
@edmastermind29 "playoff" it's like Baseball's playoffs used to be
it's not really a playoff if you don't have all of the conference champs represented IMO

user46190
@waxeagle i would put the pacers up there as top 8 team in the league...in a few more years, maybe its top 4.

user46190
@waxeagle should they march madness style it?

@edmastermind29 I think it has to be at least 16 teams. Can't really do 64, that's half a season, but a 4 round playoff would be nice.

user46190
@waxeagle 4, although progress, doesn't do it justice. would have liked to see 8. yeah, 64 is overkill, but the general structure of it.

@edmastermind29 the power of march madness amped up to the level of college football. The TV contract alone for that would be 2B a year

user46190
4:55 PM
@waxeagle then, for sure, employers will grant a week of vaca for those who want to take part in that :D

@edmastermind29 lol
You have 2 full days of games in week 1. 4 on friday, 4 on saturday. Then the following week you do the same, 2/2. Then Week 3 you have your bowl games/final four type thing. Then the last week you get some huge title game sponsor and have the mega super billion dollar bowl.
Whoever your TV partner is (ESPN?) makes sure there is a bracket in every hand when it's announced and you have the biggest illegal betting tournament in the country
pretty much over night

user46190
@waxeagle remember Houston from the 2011 season? they were ranked 6 or 7...that would have been nice to see them compete for a national title playing against more mainstream competition. this goes for Boise State, TCU, etc. also. keeping it at 4 teams eliminates this possibility almost completely.

user46190
@waxeagle ha! right? that sounds legit.

@edmastermind29 the ratings for the seletion show will be tremendous
@edmastermind29 exactly
As it is now you will likely have 1 SEC team, 1 Big 12 team, 1 Big 10 team and either a second SEC team or a PAC 102876987970 team
leaving the ACC out in the cold
leaving all the minor conferences out in the cold
you still don't incentivize aggressive scheduling

user46190
@waxeagle exactly. still tightly controlled.

5:00 PM
(which is my second biggest problem with college football right now)
@edmastermind29 yeah, I think you only really have one open spot in the playoff and it's not going to BSU

user46190
@waxeagle that's another thing. teams like okla state schedule aggressively to get dollars and competition to their university.

user46190
@waxeagle who will be the four teams this upcoming season? alabama, ohio state, and two other teams?

@edmastermind29 yep, and it hurts them when they lose a game or two off their non-conf schedule

user46190
@waxeagle yes, so their efforts almost are cancelled out by those losses. they cant lose a game and still be in the title race like an alabama or sec team can.

@edmastermind29 Bama, OSU, K-State, Texas A&M.
I think there will be 2 SEC teams in the final four this year.
and you really can't discount LSU and Flordia either :P

user46190
5:07 PM
@waxeagle thats fair. texas a&m in the sec now? johnny football and that team should be kissing somebody's feet....that's max exposure and dollars coming their way.

@edmastermind29 yep
they are in the West so they will have one loss, but they're still good enough

user46190
@waxeagle the sec should have their own 4 team playoff for the sec title ha

@edmastermind29 considering just the west of that conference, yes they do

user46190
@waxeagle and that's the problem....one loss for lower-scale bcs auto qualifier conferences and definitely non-auto qualifier conferences is too much to come back from.

@edmastermind29 yep

user46190
5:10 PM
@waxeagle this is why i wanted notre dame to win the bcs title...but they did a good job pretending to be a #1 team, so hats off to them.

user46190

@edmastermind29 lol

user46190
@waxeagle worst part about it, that came from a San Diego writer

@edmastermind29 hey, it's too funny not to laugh at

user46190
@waxeagle i know...i know. at least he's employed in the NFL unlike a former Jets NFL QB...

5:15 PM
@edmastermind29 yeah...
is it just me or are all heisman winning NFL QBs suspect (RG3 seems to be the exception to this rule)
just saw a story about Manziel's NFL prospects being underrated
The SEC finished with 7 ranked teams last year. That's just silly. And 5 of them were top 10

user46190
@waxeagle hmm? Bradford, Tebow, Troy Smith, Leinhart, Jason White, Carson Palmer, Eric Crouch?

@edmastermind29 none of them have really found any success yet
Palmer was good for a number of years for a bad team. Bradford is in a good situation and may take off

user46190
@waxeagle Skip Bayless says he's Michael Vick meets Doug Flutie meets Fran Tarkenton meets Brett Favre meets Drew Brees....

but he's in a really tough conference right now

user46190
@waxeagle that's ridiculous

user46190
5:23 PM
@waxeagle couldn't say that 2 years ago?

@edmastermind29 really couldn't say that last summer

user46190
@waxeagle i agree. Bradford is a decent QB...finally some stability at the HC and OC positions. Look at Alex Smith for example...

user46190
@waxeagle nope. i can see the Seahawks making it to the super bowl this year.

user46190
@waxeagle the Seahawks O is loaded...and their D is one of the best in the NFL.

@edmastermind29 yeah, I don't think your crazy to think that.

user46190
5:25 PM
@waxeagle my top 4 for next season are NE, DEN, SF, and SEA.

@edmastermind29 solid bet. 4 teams with stable QB positions, good defenses and decent to very good weapons around their QBs

user46190
@waxeagle NE will always be good on O with Brady and Belichick. DEN has Wes Welker now with a solid D. SF and SEA have best in the NFL D's and loaded on O over the offseason.

Don't count the NFC south teams out though. ATL and NO both have stable QB situations and the tools to make solid playoff runs
@edmastermind29 yep

user46190
@waxeagle what do you think of the spread offense?

user46190
@waxeagle ATL, agreed. NO...they gotta have a D to keep up. their D's worse than the Patriots.

5:29 PM
@edmastermind29 with or without the read option packages installed :)

user46190
@waxeagle let's go with both.

@edmastermind29 for one thing, it's easier to get a QB for.
because it's what the college kids are used to running. but it's more skill player intensive and you can't hide lackluster receiving talent in it
And against teams that can bring good pressure with 4 guys then it's going to break down if you're QB hangs on to the ball too long

user46190
@waxeagle i think it has longer shelf life than the wildcat, for example....but you can hide lackluster QB talent in it (cough Tebow cough).

@edmastermind29 yep. though Tebow's arm is still a concern.
the reason guys like RG3, Kapernick and Wilson are succeeding in these is because they have the arms to go with the feet
The NFL is still a predominantly pocket passer league, even with the read option stuff that's coming in

user46190
@waxeagle this is why i still prefer the pro-style offenses...and I've seen Peyton running the pistol, which shows that it's just not the same offensive sets he's been running for years.

user46190
5:37 PM
@waxeagle and that's pretty much it. he can play...he can't throw.

user46190
@waxeagle and their numbers were great last year. RG3 and Wilson under 10 INTs for the whole season.

@edmastermind29 That's why guys like Appy State's Armanti Edwards go in as receivers instead of passers

user46190
@waxeagle my question is how Chip Kelly will use Nick Foles in his offense...if need be.

@edmastermind29 Kapernick only had 3 as well

user46190
@waxeagle half the season for him, but still a good # for half the season. Peyton had 3 in a quarter.

5:42 PM
now they were all at the bottom of the league in attempts too
though interestingly at the top of the league in yards per attempt

user46190
@waxeagle and is this what the QBR is for? haha.

user46190
@waxeagle because they take bigger shots since they can? since they play "ride and decide?"

@edmastermind29 I think that's definitely part of it, a lot of guys are going to throw it away if they don't see anything downfield (or take the checkdown). these guys are their own checkdown
Cam should probably be in this discussion too

user46190
@waxeagle agreed. (ignores sophomore slump).

user46190
@waxeagle true...and the D will attempt to contain a scramble or such. therefore, they will always play on their heels and not see the guy fading downfield for a 30 yd completion.

user46190
5:48 PM
@waxeagle what if Vick had this offense coming out of college?

@edmastermind29 yeah, quite often you tie up a whole defender as a "spy" which evens the odds across the board
because now it's 10 on 10 instead of 10 on 11

user46190
@waxeagle yup

@edmastermind29 Vick and even Vince Young would have both benefited from this kind of thinking being in place

user46190
@waxeagle yup. i just think vick was years ahead of everyone's time and was the reason he enjoyed partial success. vince young is 31-19 as a starter...

Vick ran a little bit in ATL, but there was this mentality that he would have to give it up and that it was a bad undisciplined thing for him to run
@edmastermind29 yeah unfortunately Vince Young is also a headcase as a person :(

user46190
5:56 PM
@waxeagle he reminds me of a Terrell Owens. TO was an amazing talent, but never had it together mentally...but he also wasn't a QB.

@edmastermind29 yeah, you can deal with a headcase receiver, a headcase QB not so much

user46190
@waxeagle hence, keep him in the pocket so that he could take a beating in there.

@edmastermind29 yup

user46190
@waxeagle too true. also explains why Ocho was successful.

I wonder if the emphasis on head injuries and how big of a deal that is is fueling the rise of running QBs?

user46190
6:05 PM
@waxeagle would be an interesting correlation. however, doesn't their aggressiveness to run put them at higher risk?

@edmastermind29 I'm not sure, is it worse to get clobbered standing still(ish) in the pocket or while you're running (and potentially sliding)

Q: Sachin's bowling record

Gopinagh.RIn a youtube video, when I was watching Sachin Tendulkar's feat as a bowler, one of the commentator commented that, Sachin holds the record for dismissing Inzamam-ul-haq the most number of times. How true is that ? How many times has the little master has had the best of former pakistani skippe...

gonna have to learn cricket (or finding impossible baseball stats) if I want any rep arond here

user46190
@waxeagle i agree with that...but i also wonder if their lifestyle (popping pills, drugs, etc.) contribute on top of head trauma also...

@edmastermind29 yes. You don't here a whole lot about steroids in football, but it's a huge issue and the testing is subpar
a lot's been made about the issue in baseball, but it's actually worse in football with less coverage

user46190
6:10 PM
right? we have become Cricket SE. it started with one guy asking tons of questions, then it blew up. nonetheless, its content for our site. Golf as a sport is questioned (as being a sport, that is -- yes @posdef, i'm talking to you!), and I just don't have 30 questions a month to ask about it.

user46190
@waxeagle true. i don't think its a farcry to say that everyone's doing it.

@edmastermind29 yep. I think the only reason they haven't been skewered is that they do have some testing and they do occasionally nab someone. But it's not enough and they have escaped the scrutiny baseball has been given
(current penalty is only 4 games)

user46190
@waxeagle same with the league's personal conduct policy for a first offense

user46190
@waxeagle its part of the reason why i'm not into as baseball as much as an adult....the media coverage and such regarding steroids just gets tiring. but, on the other hand, it's what increased the game's revenue also.

@edmastermind29 at this point I just roll my eyes at it and move on. It's part of sports now and we have to deal with it

user46190
6:25 PM
@waxeagle yup. drug testing happens everywhere. i won't be surprised if tiger woods, floyd mayweather, kobe bryant...or anyone gets a positive test and boom.

@edmastermind29 none of them would surprise me.
Pretty good bet Tiger is guilty of blood doping. Mayweather not fighting pacman because of drug testing a year or two ago was a complete sham and kobe...well my guess is most basketball players probably have to be on something to be able to perform and recover the way they do
my guess is most of these guys have moved on from steriods and are on much more complicated regimens. Similar to what Balco was designing for Bonds and others

user46190
@waxeagle deer antler sprays and the such?

@edmastermind29 nah, that stuff is is the black magic stuff reporters trot out
we're talking more like the Miami clinic that got busted this past winter

user46190
@waxeagle jog my memory?

user46190

6:29 PM
looks like a clinic very similar to Balco
though maybe not as sophisticated

user46190
@waxeagle oh, ok. gotcha. let alone the fact the release of the list has to break HIPPA compliance somehow...

@edmastermind29 yep. Similar privacy concerns are why the doc just convicted of blood doping in Spain isn't having his blood samples released to the WADA

user46190
@waxeagle and like those blood-spinning platelet therapies going around. "aids in recovery" also means "performance enhancing" ...which makes me weary of AP, as much as i like the guy as football player.

@edmastermind29 yep. Those seem to be legal so far (at least to heal from injury)
@edmastermind29 Tiger had a similar therapy as have several baseball players who had a variety of joint issues
(and one of the major players in that game was busted at the border with bags of roids)

user46190
@waxeagle yup. but where is the line drawn between therapy and advantage?

user46190
6:35 PM
if such a line exists

@edmastermind29 very good question
(the guy I was just talking about nytimes.com/2009/12/15/sports/…)

user46190
@waxeagle Galea? yup, name very familiar since he worked with Woods.

@edmastermind29 yep
