@Joe Nothing "suspicious" - Ed just decided it was time for him to step down as a moderator, so the Stack Exchange team asked me to step up (as they do on beta sites - elections happen only on graduated sites).

@Joe: it was Ed's decision to delete his account - the info was on his profile for a while before it went away. A shame, but his choice.
@alamoot These two messages are what I was able to find.
I do not know what exactly was in his profile when he asked for deletion. Wayback Machine has snapshot from April 2017, nothing is mentioned there.
You can check messages which reference his username or reply to his messages. The most recent message posted in this room by him is probably from June 2018.
Even for users who deleted their accounts, it is possible to find their answer/questions through SEDE.

I guess the real reason remains a mystery, I guess except for those who saw that info on his profile

Speaking of ᴍᴀsᴛᴇʀᴍɪɴᴅ_ᴇᴅ, do you think that sometimes he still comes to the site - maybe with some anonymous edits? This could have been him: sports.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/20827 .

@alamoot I am not sure, whether there is something about why this user decided to leave or only the info that they decided to leave.
@PhilipKendall Do you remember whether the info on the profile page before the actual deletion contained also something about the reasons why ᴍᴀsᴛᴇʀᴍɪɴᴅ_ᴇᴅ decided to leave? Or was it just the information that they plan to leave the site?
