Q: Even sum subarrays

dingledooperGiven an array of integers, count the number of contiguous subarrays with an even sum. You may assume that the array is non-empty, and contains only non-negative integers. This is code-golf, so the shortest code in bytes wins. Test Cases Input -> Output [7] -> 0 [8] -> 1 [3, 5] -> 1 [6, 2] -> 3 [...

I reloaded multiple times to rty and get the screenshot to show y'all

@NewPosts this looks interesting but very hard

3:31 AM
i think it was still being actively critiqued in the sandbox the last time i looked like 3 hours ago

is this not trivial in python
anyway might need some more clarifying? i'll hold off on answering but i won't hammer

@hyper-neutrino wait how?

__bool__
wait
ignore me i did not read this correctly
ok i take back it being trivial
is this even possible lmao

3:46 AM
@hyper-neutrino Not a hammer now :P

WW (GG?) ran into the exact same misunderstanding as me :p

> trivial
> is this even possible
Perhaps one could use meta programming trickery tho
@hyper-neutrino It’d be nice to have aliases so that your original name and new name both point to you and ping you

@user shhhhhhhhhhh my eyes or brain or both don't work properly ok

I believe codidwct uses a number for pings

@use can't you just use short usernames?

3:55 AM
???
That doesn’t help

Dang someone edited while I was drafting an edit >:|

@user isn't it like you can use just 3 chars to ping?

Like @WheatWizard no longer pings 🌾 👻

a userscript could help i suppose
if only there were someone here who was good at making userscripts
if only there were someone here who's made TNB userscripts in the past

If it were based on id number, then it’d be both unambiguous qnd independent of current name
RREEEEEEEEDDDDDWWWWWWOOOIILLLLLFFFFF!!!!!

3:58 AM
There's no I in REDWOLF

I'd hope not

There is now okay

Dang, and I got denied a review because the editing took too long
Edit and reopen should send the reopen vote and give you the review, then take you to the edit page
I don't even know if my edit saved

it did
@RedwolfPrograms sorry, that would be my bad

Nah I'm just being greedy for VTRO reviews lol

4:03 AM
REDWOILF, I CALL UPON THEE TO MAKE US A USERSCRIPT! WHAT SAY YOU?!

Not sure how well this would work
See, there's two possible approaches: the person making the ping has the userscript, and it gets auto-replaced with the correct name (so it'd show up as "@RedwolfPrograms", when you type "@Redwoilf"), or the person being pinged has it (and it will ping you when it detects any of your aliases)
The second is probably better
But it would limit the usefulness
Since if, e.g., WW didn't have the script, we couldn't use any aliases

Yeah
Sadge, time to get codidwct to make q chat thing

@RedwolfPrograms Thanks for the review :P

4:24 AM
I love how people on Reddit try to use hashtags but it’s markdown so it just gets big :p

does it bug anyone else when the symbol itself is called a hashtag?

no

what else are you supposed to call it?
(genuinely)

4:32 AM
octothorpe

bro

@LeakyNun a hash? or pound if you're american

i haven't heard that (octothorpe) since the epic of gilgamesh
@JoKing those either
especially "pound", since to me it's the currency
nobody says those

> The symbol # is known variously in English-speaking regions as the number sign, hash, or pound sign.
> Since 2007, widespread usage of the symbol to introduce metadata tags on social media platforms has led to such tags being known as "hashtags", and from that, the symbol itself is sometimes called a hashtag

is it bad that I read #include <iostream> as "hashtag include iostream"?

4:34 AM
but then I guess they don't read the sign too

I do the same, except without the "tag".

the only time I've heard the sign read out is when they write "#-field" to mean "number field", and there they say "number field"
or "a^#" pronounced "a-sharp", but that's a different sign i guess

or when someone describes a "hash tag" lol

but in that case they say "hashtag"
or rather, I haven't heard anyone use the sign other than in hashtags
I guess an analogous question is, when is the last time you heard someone say "full-stop" or "comma" or "exclamation mark"?

... I do that a lot when talking to myself

4:38 AM
^

thankfully not when i'm typing my password though

I kinda just mentally say Ah! when I read exclamation marks and pause a bit when I see commas

I yell factorials if that counts
at least internally

I say "not"

@JoKing Hmm, so your password has commas or periods or exclamation marks in it
What do y’all read semicolons and colons as?

4:42 AM
i just say "END OF STATEMENT" for semicolons

@user I don't

Ugh my new laptop replaced the right ctrl with a fingerprint scanner
I'm so used to using right ctrl...

6:19 AM
Nerd
Who tf uses right control

honestly i can see that depending on the exact keyboard layout
like for my external keyboard right ctrl is way the fuck too far from ; to ever even consider using since it's in the very bottom right but my laptop's keyboard has it right under / because of compacted arrow keys so in that case it could actually be easier in some sense to use for most shortcuts involving it since those tend to involve left-side keys

@lyxal If I'm doing something like ctrl+t, it feels weird to hit the left ctrl and t with the same hand, but it's often easier to use the right ctrl instead of moving both hands all the way to the left to reach ctrl and t

6:41 AM
right ctrl i can understand, but i get confused by keyboards with a right fn button

This is closed as unclear with no requests to clarify anything specific.

To me, less "unclear" and more impossible

You can do it in Curry.

It's asking to break the internal behaviour of your language

y=unsafePerformIO$getRandomSeed
x=(y>0)?(y<1)
The hard part is performing something randomly, executing both parts of an if is just normal curry behavior.
But that's besides the point, a question really shouldn't be closed as unclear without any comments as to why it's unclear.

@emanresuA Why not? The first thing in the post was a link to a commercial site related to the described product.

I looked right past that :P

Yeah it's somewhat disguised as scientific fact but the username and the link clearly are connected to something commercial
And the smoke detector did the job right

@Bubbler actually it didn't
It didn't come up in CHQ nor the mod office
And autoflagging is down right now too
Actually turns out I'm fricking blind
Smokey did mention it
It just didn't get autoflagged or have any feedback given.
And I wasn't sorting by site rooms ofc
Nvm me being an idiot

Morning!
@NewPosts IIRC sandboxing questions on their own on meta is allowed, right? (although that should probably be reserved for much more complicated challenges, or series of challenges like Bubbler's event thing)

Well, it doesn't seem like OP intended to do that
because they self-deleted after getting Adam's comment on their first post
and then proceeded to do literally the exact same thing
if they'd responded to Adam's comment saying they intended to sandbox it separately we wouldn't be here now :P

@RedwolfPrograms No, questions on meta that should be sandbox answers are off-topic
Or rather, closed as a dupe of the sandbox

@hyper-neutrino did you forget to reverse a and b?

@RedwolfPrograms That seems like an unhealthy amount of cinnamon

@LeakyNun yes

this ? operator is quite useful with recursion, because you can just recurse infinitely and then ignore when the stack overflows

4:18 PM
wtf lol
i love how this only works because there isn't TCO

That's absolutely genius despite being cursed

thank you

It'd be cool if you could add something to eliminate the f=lambda: boilerplate in Whython

that's too useful
I only want to add genuinely cursed features

I guess we need a fork of Whython called Trython then

4:22 PM
I was thinking my next thing would be a C-style comma operator

That is again useful
It'd also clash with tuple syntax, right?

@cairdcoinheringaahing actually, sod's law, I now can't do the 8th either :/
is it ok to do next week (1st) instead? Or does doing it not in the fortnightly schedule break the rules?
@user well, it would have to be something other than a comma
maybe two commas (,,), or just make semicolons valid in expressions

I can get behind (a ; b) being valid

Ruby allows it already, for example
hmm, maybe it's not cursed enough

Ooh, could you add optional curly braces if it isn't too hard to parse? If you use {a, b, c} or {a}, it's a set, if you use {a:b,c:d} or {a:b} it's a dict, if you use {a; b; c} it's a block

4:27 PM
ooh, making from __future__ import braces a reality?
now that's a great idea!

4:39 PM
Created a couple more feature requests :P

@pxeger somehow the readme for whython seems just a bit off

@AaroneousMiller forks are hard

I've often seen that with forks, is that a copyright thing or a laziness thing? :P

it's a "every time you update the fork you have to remember not to overwrite the README with upstream's" thing

4:46 PM
Ah
So it's a laziness thing

@AaroneousMiller Maybe we're making a lot of cookies

fair enough

not fair, i want cookie too

lol, I just misspelled Bubbler's name as Bubbly

@pxeger BMG is scheduled for next Wednesday
We can hold off Zsh being LYAL until you're free if you'd like, just means that we'll choose other nominated languages

@cairdcoinheringaahing if it has to be a wednesday on that schedule it might need to wait till next year
sorry I feel like I'm being too picky with when it can happen
I guess you can do it without me if you want
or I suppose I could start a guerilla LYAL competitor and do it some other time :P

I don't have history but I have 2 maths :(

Pretty sure "mathses" is what Gollum calls it

Because Gollum isn't American
American Gollum would say mathss

Does anyone in the lotr movies actually speak in an American accent?

I think there were a couple people with fake-sounding British accents

Tbf at this point, "obviously fake British accent" all but is an American accent

Although tbh movies have conditioned me to think that anyone who doesn't say "Oi mate, geh me a cuppa" isn't British

wdym? That is exactly what all British people say

@lyxal But what if you add another one?

@user I notice that nobody found their virginity in that box... no mine's not in there either

This is TNB
This is not a place people go to to lose it

11:45 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing it collapses on itself

What about if you shrink the forks first?

It's not based on size
It's based on relative fork density
You jam too many forks into a single area and it creates a black hole

Interesting, what if you make the forks out of something that's not very dense?

Still happens

@lyxal Uh, I'm not sure it works exactly like that :P

11:47 PM
@user that's what I said too
@user material is irrelevant - it's all about fork like objects

But how do you define fork-like?

@user if it looks like a fork, sounds like a fork and walks like a fork it's a fork

Looks like is quite subjective. Do tridents count as forks? What about sporks?

It's just duck typing for forks
@user does a trident sound and walk like a fork?

Yes

11:51 PM
Then it's a fork

What about sporks and spoons? What about sticks? I must know

Duck typing in computer programming is an application of the duck test—"If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, then it must be a duck"—to determine whether an object can be used for a particular purpose. With normal typing, suitability is determined by an object's type. In duck typing, an object's suitability is determined by the presence of certain methods and properties, rather than the type of the object itself. == Example == This is a simple example in Python 3 that demonstrates how any object may be used in any context, up until it is used in a way that it does not support. Output...
Apply the criteria yourself

What if someone takes a robot, attaches a screen displaying a fork, makes its speakers produce fork noises, and makes its legs fork-like?
@lyxal i lzy

@user Then it's a fork

@lyxal How about a entity that can transform to anything in the universe, including a fork.

11:53 PM
@AlanBagel depends on its instantaneous forkness
If at any time t it displays the three fork traits, it's a fork at time = t

@lyxal But there's no rule about making that area big enough to include the extra fork
@lyxal What about a fork in the road?

@cairdcoinheringaahing that's what I said too
@cairdcoinheringaahing does it look, sound and walk like a fork?

@lyxal How many is too many?

It doesn't walk

Neither do forks

11:55 PM
It gets walked

@cairdcoinheringaahing then it's not a fork
@user you've never spent enough time observing them

@lyxal wdym, it walks exactly like a fork--not at all
@lyxal Get a life

CMQ: what is or King of the Hill?

@user it's a special constant called kciR's constant
@user this is just what I learned from my forks physics class
That's how I know about the fork density limit
A practical experiment gone horribly wrong
