12:00 AM
@rak1507 I don't write enough APL to break things, so it's alright

{⍵,⍣¯1⊢⍞⊣⍞←⍵}

@dzaima nice

@dzaima Fails too. With an error.

Most APL I write breaks things, but in the less dangerous version of "break" :P

prompt←{0::⎕←'wtf are you doing'⋄⍵,⍣¯1⊢⍞⊣⍞←⍵}

12:02 AM
prompt←{'wtf are you doing'}

prompt←{i↓⍨¯1+1⍳⍨≠⌿↑⍵(i←⍞)⊣⍞←⍵}
Maybe we should move this to the orchard?

@Adám probably fails with spaces and things considering ↑

No.

@Adám I'd prefer my version to a possibility of taking a subset of user input

drops upto the first mismatch right? what if you enter ' thing'

12:04 AM
Oh, that's what you mean.

0
Q: Ordered, linear, affine, or relevant?

BubblerBackground Supplementary reading 1, Supplementary reading 2 Linear lambda calculus is a limited form of lambda calculus, where every bound variable must be used exactly once. prompt←{i↓⍨(≢⍵)⌊+/∧\=⌿↑⍵(i←⍞)⊣⍞←⍵} then
In other words, we need ⎕PROMPT

How long should I wait before self-answering?

A week.

Until you feel comfortable to do so

12:07 AM
@Adám I'd also prefer an error if the user does something they shouldn't, so there's less chance they do it more until they accidentally type in the prompt as the start of their input
oh wait that's only fixing the space issue
(too lazy to test things on phone)

@dzaima Having to take such measures, "fighting the system", is not good. I'd rather a reliable function. is a strange glyph anyway.

yeah, too many edge cases (at least if you allow/expect users to mess around)

@Adám i mean, of course, a proper solution is better :)

personally I'd just use ⍞ and then if someone breaks it, that's on them :P

@Adám I would normally wait around a week if there were lots of answers, but the challenge I'm thinking of has 1, and my answer is definitely a base-line answer rather than a guaranteed winner, so I'm thinking a few days instead

12:10 AM
@rak1507 But it is so hard to use right. ⎕PROMPT would be instantly intuitive.
Maybe even ⎕ALERT instead of {⍞←⍵}¨⊆?

@Adám yeah true
I'd definitely use ⎕PROMPT over something hand-rolled if it existed

There are a few small utils I'd like. Also ⎕ERROR or ⎕THROW or something, as you'll see in my webinar.
And ⎕RESIGNAL

12:25 AM
:( we can't have friends in our C++ course
this is so sad
;P

@lyxal ?

@NewPosts I love it when my Jelly fork can golf 3 bytes from my original Jelly answer :P

@user they say "no using the friend keyword"

Oh lol, didn't know C++ had one
This is kinda nice, I wish Kotlin had it too. companions are nice but friends are better

but we aren't allowed to have friends

12:36 AM
@lyxal Shouldn't be too much of an issue for you, right? :P

sussy baka

w....why does the (unofficial) discord server for our engineering students have one of our lecturers as a pickle as one of the server emotes?
and why have 15 people boosted the server?

because they turned themselves into a pickle, funniest shit you ever seen

12:54 AM
@RedwolfPrograms what should handling of CnR look like? I'm not very familiar with the style of challenge and why it uses two threads now. What would a better solution look like? If you could create new post types or change the behavior of existing ones somehow to better support CnR, what would that look like?

@MonicaCellio Currently, CnR (and a newer similar version ) challenges are one group of users competing against another group. Think "This program outputs Hello, World! and only I know the language" vs "I can figure out what language that is". We typically use two threads so that Robbers (those who figure out "what language it is", or whatever the way to "crack" the answer) also get rep for their work
It also allowes Robbers the space to explain their crack that comments generally don't

The format for a CnR is sort of like an answer to an answer, if that makes sense. For changing the behavior to support CnRs with a single question, having a way to sort of "link" the robber answer to the cop, maybe by having it fixed directly underneath it, would probably be the easiest way. It's one of the minor challenge types though, so it's definitely not a "must have" feature by any means.

Cop answers to a CnR challenge are mini-challenges themselves, so it's somewhat like having a sub-thread of Q&As in the answer section

So would robber answers be like super-comments?

1:03 AM
@Bubbler s/a sub-thread of Q&As/multiple mini-Q&A sub-threads/

I could imagine it being a way for the cop to mark a comment as a "crack", which then awards rep to the robber

@user That's a good description I think, but the super comments would definitely need to award reputation from the voting, so they'd be less super comments and more sub-answers :p

It sounds like answers to the cops challenge have answers themselves (for the robbers), kind of? I mean in terms of desired structure, not what exists today. You want the visibility and rep of posts as opposed to comments, and you want clear linking, and any cop might have multiple robbers?

A crack to a good cop often requires more than a comment to explain why it works

@MonicaCellio Most cops only have 1 robber, but support for multiple would be a cherry on top

1:05 AM
Also yes, a cop can have multiple robbers (if multiple users attempt to crack one at the same time)
(or different approaches)

I think there are some CnRs where robbers can additionally compete for things like byte count, right?

Most of them don't, but theoretically possible
Usually the one competing for byte count is the cops

The current way of having two threads mostly works, but it could do with a better integration of the two threads
Mostly we rely on linking [Cops thread]() and [Robbers thread](), but a better way to do that would be nice

Plus there's issues like the author getting multiplied rep from having two posts

If there are two threads, but the cross-linking were automatic -- you say "I'm robbing this cop" and they'd get wired up -- is that the sort of thing that would help?

1:08 AM
It'd be definitely better to be contained in one "megathread", since the parent of a robber is definitely the corresponding cop, not the "robber thread"

Yeah, it sounds like what you really want is questions that have answers that have answers.

Basically, yeah

What would you want that to look like in the UI? Indent the sub-answers, put the robbers behind an expander or something on the cop, something else?
I should clarify that I'm trying to brainstorm; I have no idea how easy or hard things are, but first I want to understand the problem.

I think indentation would be better, since that encourages voting on robbers

And you said there's usually just one robber per cop (though there could be more), so it's probably not like challenges where there might be 20 or 100 responders.

1:11 AM
@MonicaCellio Both are exactly what I'd imagine, actually (have an expander on a cop, and robbers when shown are indented once)

A way for a cop to mark their answer as cracked would be great (e.g. an auto-insert for a link saying [Cracked by user](link))

@Bubbler do most cops attract robbers, or are robbers more rare?

@Bubbler Hiding the robber by default is probably not a good idea

Most CnRs have at least one uncracked answer, and most cracked answers get only one crack

But most cops do get cracked, yeah

1:13 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing we are working on something like reactions now, which can be customized by community, so this seems possible. (By "reactions" I don't mean hearts and smileys and 800 kinds of emoji; I mean things like "this answer is outdated" and "this answer worked for me".)
Is it important to be able to see easily which cops haven't been cracked yet?

Very much so

A way to filter cracked answers could be cool

And it's cracked when the cop says it's cracked, not when there's a robber, right?

Yes

Sort of. Cops confirming cracks is the typical way, as it double checks the robber hasn't made a mistake. However, it does allow more unsportman cops to refuse to mark their answers as cracked
Additionally, you can often crack an answer in an unintended way, so both the cop and robber have different cracks. Sometimes, people don't consider their answers cracked until their intended way has been found, which is why CnR challenges often have "Any valid crack counts" in their rules

1:16 AM
If you wanted to filter cracked answers, how would you tell the difference between "it is but the cop didn't confirm" and "nope, wrong" or "cop hasn't seen it yet"?

@MonicaCellio If cops could mark crack attempts as "valid" and "invalid", that would work. If the crack is, but wasn't confirmed, that'd be a rarer special case

@cairdcoinheringaahing ah, so I wrote my answer in language X, but inadvertently produced something that also works in language Y, and the robber said Y.

@MonicaCellio Exactly. In the original Programming Language Quiz, multiple answers were unintentionally cracked by Foo, to the point where it became a meme (10k+ sorry)

@cairdcoinheringaahing I'll take your word for it, 'cause I sure don't have 10k here. :-)

That's the third highest voted meme on the page, and has 47 votes :P

1:20 AM
Fooruhstration

Oh no, I stumbled across a cool unicode block and now I feel compelled to create a cursed esolang based on it

It has more votes than the meme about us graduating :P
> 80

This might have been funny in the past, but since we're actually graduating within the month, I don't see how the cultural height can be listed as "always". – Geobits Aug 31 '15 at 3:39
> 33

@Geobits how the heck did I fall for it here – undergroundmonorail Aug 31 '15 at 11:32
(Sorry if this pings you Geobits)

Also, TIL there is a subscript 10 in unicode

Ok, tell me if I've got this right:
- Robbers should be presented with cops (directly under is best, paired posts with cross-links are the workaround).
- Robbers need room to explain -- posts, not comments.
- Robbers should be votable.
- Cops should be able to mark robbers as correct or incorrect and/or mark their posts as cracked by [username].
- Typically there is a small number (often one) of robbers per cop.
- Filtering for cracked (or uncracked) cops is nice to have.
Is all that correct, and did I miss anything?

That's all correct, I can't think of anything you've missed

1:32 AM
Thanks. I'm going to roll all this around in my brain and then probably try to roll it around in developers' brains and see what comes out. As I said, I don't know how easy or hard any of this is, but if there are things we can plausibly do to make these kinds of challenges easier to manage, I'd like to help.

@RedwolfPrograms I think that's a "small" 10, not subscript as in ₁₀. It is a single character used by some calculators with 2⏨6 meaning 2E6 or 2×10⁶.

Really? What I read indicated it was meant to be a subscript 10 for indicating a number's in decimal
Oh huh, apparently you're right
It seems to have originated in a soviet punch card standard

@RedwolfPrograms No, the Soviets didn't have it in their character set, so they allowed ю

Ah, ok. I'm just skimming wikipedia articles :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing I spent way too long trying to figure out why O0 was printing the smallest number in the stack instead of the first number in the stack before I remembered that the whole point of Deorst is sorting the stack. :/

> the whole point of Deorst is sorting the stack
FTFY :P
Each line is sorted as well :P

Oh right, lol

If you sort "sorted", you get "deorst" :P

2:07 AM
> Deorst (as you can tell from the name) is all about sorting, including the source code.
Yes, that was the first thing I noticed when I saw the name. /s

Wait, so the characters of your source are in order?

@user The characters of each line get sorted before execution

You're kidding, right/

Wow

2:09 AM
@user with a few exceptions, like EA, since E is essentially a diagraph character, or o, which marks a character literal.

Yeah, I believe digraphs are sorted to the end, as x < Ez for any characters x and z

@cairdcoinheringaahing do you ever look at patch and ask "what the dog doin'?"?

Is k supposed to disable stack sorting, or does that disable a different sorting?

1) His name is Patch, and 2) all the time :P
@AaronMiller It's supposed to, I don't know how effective it is :P
Currently, he is lying upside down with his feet in the air asleep. Gimme a moment and I'll grab a picture :P

@lyxal lol, I interpreted that question as, “do you ever look at a bug fix you made and question your life choices?”

2:13 AM
@AaronMiller sussy baka

@lyxal funny enough, I’d still have to agree with caird: all the time :p

aaand he just woke up and is insisting on running around the garden for 15 minutes :/

Exactly 15 minutes?
Heh, that dog is a lot better at laying out a schedule than I am :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing tell him I said hi

Did you at least get the picture?

He does have an onlyfans tho, costs $4.99 a month, and you get cute pictures of him :P
You need to pay up for that :P
Wow, that sounds weird out of context
Actually, even in context

@user oof, I got no monies :(

That one's for free :P

Patch has grown since your pfp

He has :P I took my pfp in 2017, he's 6 now

2:21 AM
My family has a dog and it's older than me, which I guess means I should probably be following its orders

He is also very tired - It's 3am here :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing (つ´∀`)つ

> aaand he just woke up and is insisting on running around the garden for 15 minutes :/
I see he's inherited your trash sleep schedule

@cairdcoinheringaahing Have a poor man's hug: (⊃ )⊃
> inherited
caird is a dog confirmed

@user you heard me

2:23 AM
@lyxal He wakes me up at random hours because he wants to run outside

@lyxal You've got too much C++ on your mind :P

Compared to Patch, me and hyper have normal sleep schedules :P

That's one crazy son of a bitch :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing y u keep making languages without nestable while loops?

I read Monero.SE as Montero.SE and was wondering how lil nas x got a StackExchange site :P

2:25 AM
You can't parse them easily with regex

@AaronMiller Nesting = parsing

But parsing is easy and never breaks! *cough* Vyxal *cough*

This is why we should have used jQuery

> *cough* Vyxal Keg *cough*
FTFY

Y'all really need a proper introduction to language/compiler theory...

2:28 AM
I hate the theory side of coding :P

Theories take all of the fun out of making cursed spaghetti

@Bubbler If it’s not being “fixed” on a daily basis, you’re not doing it right.

If it's not being fixed on a daily basis, you're not doing it right.
Imagine making a single functional language and not just faking it to pass the tests for your final project

2:29 AM
I write my languages' interpreters, then when someone points out a problem, I either let them fix it, or claim it's "intended behaviour"

@Bubbler laughs in that's what I'll be doing in a few years

@cairdcoinheringaahing That's a pro-programmer move

The most functional language I've made is my Jelly fork, and that's not even making something new :P

@lyxal Trust me, it's actually more fun than most other CS courses

@user It's a pro-grammer move :P

2:30 AM
I wonder what plain grammers are then

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes, we are all epic grammars here.

@Bubbler it's an elective I'll be choosing to do, so dw, I'm looking forward to it

@user Ask Chomsky

As we're discussing this I'm writing a language with an interpreter designed specifically to be very, very bad and cursed and scary :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing Bah, I don't listen to thheoretical computer scientists
@RedwolfPrograms Oh, a fork of JS? :P

2:32 AM
As we're discussing this I'm writing a language with an interpreter designed specifically to be very, very bad and cursed and scary :p

@user Theoretical compsci is what happens when people think about computers instead of just using them

@user Nvm, he's apparently a linguist

@AaronMiller Yes, it called Hatred :P

@AaronMiller "designed" is a strong word for it :P

2:34 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Compsci is just electronic math, and math + electricty is just calculators, and no one likes calculators
Ergo compsci bad because vyxal bad

are you telling me that I inadvertently made a whole field of academia bad?
heck yeah life goal accomplished
;p

@cairdcoinheringaahing No, your complaints aren’t supposed to go here: contributing.md

This room was placed in timeout for 1 second; vyxal bad

@AaronMiller this is true

Vyxal bad :P

2:37 AM
But consider: no

Why do you hate Vyxal so much, caird? We even have a special place for you to put your complaints :P

However, think about this: vyxal bad

Could you at least be respectful with your opinions?

@AaronMiller Wow, both of those arguments are remarkable in their elegance. I'm on the fence about whether or not Vyxal bad or no :P

@user Don;t tell lyxal, but I don't, I just like saying "vyxal bad" :P
IIRC I've actually used Vyxal before on the site

2:38 AM
But...vyxal bad D:

@user tips the fence over to push you into the no side

@cairdcoinheringaahing If you say "vyxal badass," you get to enjoy it and make us happy. Win-win :P

@RedwolfPrograms I request that you also follow our contributing guide

1 min ago, by Aaron Miller
But consider: no

@lyxal Falls into manure because I'm me, goes home and cries

@lyxal I'm not sure if you're contributing guide is intended to be a joke or an actual request to self-censor criticism of your language, so no :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing Your link is useless lol

@RedwolfPrograms No, he's not "contributing guide is intended to be a joke or an actual request to self-censor criticism of your language, so no :p," he's lyxal ;P

@RedwolfPrograms It's only criticism from you and caird and those who just blindly jump on bandwagons that we want in the trash :p

2:41 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing lyxal.pythonanywhere.com
What happened to n3buchadnezzar, btw?

@lyxal It's not blindly jumping on a bandwagon, I like Vyxal, mostly, I just don't like the flags

@RedwolfPrograms you're not the one on the bandwagon

Any diamonds around?

Ignoring the flags, it's not my favorite golfing language, but I know how much work you've put in and it's quite interesting. If Vyxal had never had flags, I'd probably be running around making "vyxal good" jokes instead of "vyxal bad".

Vanillyxal: Vyxal but no built-in flags

2:46 AM
> Is Vyxal the best esolang in existence?

Vyxal is the best esolang ever created, and it is the only esolang ever created.
GPT-3 has spoken.

Use "Vyxal bad" as a prompt :P

> Vyxal bad.

We are all bad.

I deifnitely don't want it to seem like I just dislike Vyxal because I like disliking Vyxal; I'm sure it'd be pretty discouraging to have users constantly criticizing and making jokes about a project that takes that much investment of time and dedication. But that doesn't mean I'm not still going to criticize it when I think it's fair :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing o/
i possess a lozenge-shaped icon next to my name

2:50 AM
Can you force-refresh my profile?
@AaronMiller One problem: that says that if you're "caird" you should follow the guide. However, I'm not caird.

No way, you actually did it :D

On my screen it just says "Dude" in italics lol

The Dude Abides :P

same; i have to use 90% zoom to see the whole thing

2:51 AM
So for the next month I'll see your name and pronounce it as "Dude!"

@Dudecoinheringaahing Understandable, have a nice day.
> Vyxal bad.

Evil gun control is bad too.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Anyone else have a craving for White Russians and bowling?
@AaronMiller GPT-3 has spoken

i don't have a particular obssession for russian people, no (:p)

So...the solution to all of the world's problems is more guns and less Vyxal?

2:53 AM
i figured; that'd have been my guess :p
i only properly had alcohol for the first time last night and it was like 2.5oz of probably reasonably low %

Plus the fact that the Dude was a famous drinker of White Russian in The Big Lebowski :P

'Night o/

@hyper-neutrino I am currently drinking a glass of scotch, having had 4 beers tonight. UK alcohol culture is wack

@Dudecoinheringaahing i was feeling kinda dizzy last night and i don't think going kayaking helped cuz that made me nauseous but i think it was mostly the alcohol :p so i really don't want to know how that much alcohol would affect me lmao

Compared to Shaggy, I'm a casual drinker. Compared to an American, I'm a heavy drinker

2:56 AM
@hyper-neutrino actually that's not really true i had apple cider that had like marginal amounts of alcohol in it but i think that hardly counts; i've probably ingested more alcohol by consuming bread

One good measure is how early you're willing to have a drink :P
@hyper-neutrino I've always found North American "cider" to be interesting. Cider to me is fruity beer, not "apple soda"

CMQ: Reasonable things XKCD's gand ate could do?

apple cider to me is a non-alcoholic juice-like beverage, but i've consumed next to no alcohol and i probably will keep it that way for the foreseeable future
thing is i'm also feeling not that great right now so i think that's more so sleep deprivation than alcohol, though i've been sleeping more than usually recently so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@hyper-neutrino Honestly, I respect someone who decides not to drink. Here at least, drinking is expected from 16 and above, and regardless of my own opinions on alcohol and getting drunk (I like doing it), I respect someone for standing by their principles

i just looked at the starboard and... what the fuck happened here while i was gone??

2:59 AM
We don;t talk about that :P
@hyper-neutrino I often bounce between a caffeine rush and getting drunk. As you can tell, I'm a very healthy individual

@Dudecoinheringaahing ah. yeah, I wouldn't know how UK culture is of course :P here I don't think there's particularly too much of a culture around getting drunk (not something that's expected, but not something that's seen as a taboo either); i've never tried it but personally not having mental clarity is not something that i am particularly excited to try lol
but i'll respect people's personal choices for stuff like this :p
@Dudecoinheringaahing sounds very healthy :p i should learn a thing or two from you /s

@hyper-neutrino What's the marijuana culture in Canada? Here it's pretty big, despite being illegal

@Dudecoinheringaahing not too sure TBH; think it's mostly dependent who you talk to. there doesn't seem to be too big of a "culture" surrounding it since it's been recently legalized (by recently i mean a few years ago)
also I'm not really the best person to ask about any sort of culture around social interaction...

@hyper-neutrino Fair enough, you do have a diamond here :P
@hyper-neutrino my grandad lives in BC and he goes wild really often :P

lol, nice :p
vaping was not uncommon in my hs (despite the fact that i am pretty sure it is illegal for people at that age, and it is also definitely against the school's rules) (at least based on the washrooms' smells) but idk if it was marijuana or just nicotine; couldn't tell through the ridiculously heavy artificial scents

3:06 AM
I was out in Whistler for Christmas in 2017 (so I was 15) and him and my grandma brought a batch of pot brownies up to the cabin we were staying at, and didn't tell me or my parents they had pot in them :P Cue me getting stoned out my ass at 15 and watching the sixth sense on repeat for ~4 hours :P
For context, I had my first beer on my 16th birthday

lol, bruh, sounds like an... interesting experience :p

Yeah, it's definitely up there when it comes to "stories about me" :P
Can't see I use weed too much tbh tho. It just makes me very dizzy

my life has been comparatively rather boring and i don't particularly mind too much :p
on one hand i'd like to try marijuana to see how it's like but on the other hand i don't really care all that much about experiencing it just for the sake of having said experience. same goes for being drunk, etc

@hyper-neutrino same here

@hyper-neutrino I had this misfortune of 1) being acquaintances with a drug dealer, 2) having friends who insist on getting hammered, stoned, whatever and 3) having an attitude of "I'll try everything once"

3:13 AM
Imagine having irl friends you hang out with

If you suggest a brand new experience to me (I'm going to limit this to IRL for safety reasons :P), the likelihood is that I;ll try it at least once

@Dudecoinheringaahing ah, well that'd do it :P i've had weed offered to me once but it was not in a situation i'd like to try getting stoned in even if i wanted to try at the time. also my friends also don't have particularly colorful history when it comes to drugs and such :P
@Dudecoinheringaahing here's an experience: DM me your social security number (or whatever they use in the UK), address, credit card number, CVV, birthdate, and full legal name (for legal reasons that's a joke)

@hyper-neutrino that's not irl though
So it doesn't count anyway

ik
write that on a piece of paper and give it to me IRL :P

That's more like it

3:15 AM
@hyper-neutrino 123456; 1 Dude Rd, Dude; 1234 5678 9012 3456; 789; 01/23/45; caird :P

seems legit

@hyper-neutrino Oh yeah, it’s so bad here that janitors constantly walk in to catch students vaping, and trachers look at you suspiciously if you go to the restroom too long

@hyper-neutrino You joke, but in ~18 months, I could very much be studying at the University of Waterloo :P

Btw hi @Dude!

Hello, I am brand new user here. How does one do the code golf?

3:16 AM
@Dudecoinheringaahing oo nice. UW, one of the few reasons one would want to come to waterloo

@Dudecoinheringaahing juic avodad

@Dudecoinheringaahing write your code on a ball and try to hit it into the hole (which should have a flag marking its location)

Then you write some Scala

@Dudecoinheringaahing Learn Vyxal :P

Don’t listen to these filthy Jelly users

3:17 AM
@Bubbler I have heard Vyxal bad? Is this true?

@Dudecoinheringaahing it's all lies
Don't listen to them

@Dudecoinheringaahing Vyxal is awesome

@hyper-neutrino I'm due to start studying "Math with a Year Abroad" in ~6 weeks, and one of the partner unis for that year abroad is University of Waterloo IIRC :P

@Dudecoinheringaahing we have a github organisation and everything. You don't see bad languages having github organisations now do you.
@Dudecoinheringaahing are there any partner unis in Australia?

Lemme check

3:20 AM
Because why go live in the past when you can study in the future?

@lyxal JS

@user that's one exception to the rule :p

@lyxal There are at least 12 available unis: Leibnitz, Nanyang, National University of Singapore, Sorbonne, University of Hong Kong, Universidad Madrid, University of Melbourne, University of Rochester, University of Sydney, University of Washington, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Université de Bordeaux, plus the uni's standard year abroad partners, which include Waterloo and a few others

@Dudecoinheringaahing time to pull a funny outplay and study abroad at your uni just as you go abroad :P (also what uni are you at again? i feel like i should know this since you've mentioned it at least a couple times :P)

@hyper-neutrino Bristol :P

3:24 AM
@Dudecoinheringaahing awww that doesn't include the uni I'm at D:
But if you went to Sydney you could try and catch up with JoKing :p

Waterloo is offered specifically for those studying:
Chemistry - Full year
Earth Sciences - Full Year
Geography - Full Year
@lyxal Where are you at?

@Dudecoinheringaahing Uni of Newcastle

@lyxal :( Bristol doesn't partner with them

D:

Take a search, which is the closest? :P

3:28 AM
@Dudecoinheringaahing Sydney probably

It's only a 2 hour drive from UoSydney to UoNewcastle :P
Speaking of, hey @JoKing :P

:o
i don't actually have a year left on my degree though

Are you in your final year?

yup
and the horrors that come with it

If you don;t mind my asking, what are you writing your dissertation on?

3:35 AM
i.e. the most esolang you can get without actually being an esolang

ngl, I was expecting something to do with quines, but that;s a pretty cool topic :D

Sounds like GoL but much fancier :P

speaking of GOL, has there ever been a question mixing QR codes and GOL?

there's this post in the secret santa's sandbox that i abandoned
i threw it out since i felt that the existence of QFTASM would make the challenge not that interesting anymore, but i could bring it back if we think that'd be interesting

3:41 AM
Isn't QR code way too dense to be an interesting GoL configuration?

I even doubt if a predecessor to any valid QR code exists

That's a hell of a vote ratio

@Bubbler probably, plus there's the things in the corners that kinda have to be there

Yeah, mainly that part

3:43 AM
wait, I downvoted that

yeah i think people just thought it was too similar to the existing QFT
although there are no deleted comments so maybe downvotes were explained in chat, or just not at all

i feel like i should post a QR quine challenge, because it looks like the existing ones got closed as unclear

The existence of QFT makes every challenge in the form of "do [some ordinary code golf task] in GoL" kinda trivial

QFT basically made a full-fledged computer with a pixelated display, right?

3:46 AM
Oh no oh frick. They've found fragments of covid in a water source a few kilometres away from where I am

@HyperNeutrino do you mind me being brutally honest regarding ^^^?
Sep 21 '17 at 17:57, by caird coinheringaahing
@HyperNeutrino Nah, I couldn't think exactly why I didn't like it
ಠ_ಠ Goddamn you past me

@lyxal uh oh

@JoKing Violates the standard loophole: "interpret the challenge too literally" :P
3

@JoKing wait it's actually ~10km. That's still not good though

Sep 21 '17 at 17:28, by HyperNeutrino
yeah nvm I'll just delete it. now that QFTASM is assembled it's really just another challenge except more tedious
Somehow, you ninja'd yourself by 4 years :P

3:55 AM
