11:04 AM
Yeah, I try to pick sequences that are very un-#-y
The half fibonacci one has very good score in that measure

Are the most OEIS sequences transformed into challenge?

@Bubbler yeah, it's interesting, good job (although I don't understand it lol)

@Wasif Transformable, but most would not be that interesting

@Bubbler No i asked have there been any remaining OEIS sequences to write challenges

@Wasif Super plenty. OEIS has well over 300,000 distinct sequences

11:08 AM
@Wasif We have 12000 challenges posted on the site, total
750 challenges, so even if all of them were on OEIS, that's not even 0.25% of the sequences on OEIS

I think we know what Wasif's next challenge will be

Speaking of challenge ideas:
3 hours ago, by Lyxal
Would a challenge implementing an automated version of the "you're not x you're Y" joke be interesting enough for main?
Yes or no?

no

yes

depends on the challenge

11:13 AM
@rak1507 what is it

something from OEIS I'm guessing

Well I have already got idea
Output all the 300000 sequence names in OEIS
Either kolomgorov complexity or internet

@cairdcoinheringaahing sad.
Oh well
Luckily I didn't start sandboxing anything

@Wasif names or numbers?

11:15 AM
@rak1507 Like A01321894

are they not sequential?

IDK its just a raw idea

fair enough

One potential challenge could be: Given the sequence number, output that sequence (standard rules)

Ngl my phones wallpaper today (which changes daily) seems a bit fishy

11:16 AM
I'll put further effort later

@rak1507 More or less, yes

@cairdcoinheringaahing seems totally impossible without wget or whatever

@cairdcoinheringaahing web scraping?

@Lyxal what is it

Or else the code will be millions of lines long

11:17 AM
Maybe most number of sequences handled?

seems boring, implementing lots of easy sequences

@rak1507 see the picture above

that is indeed fishy

what fish they are
seems tasty

11:18 AM
@Lyxal Man, that sounds like unnecessary effort, changing the background every day

@cairdcoinheringaahing nah it's automatic

@rak1507 fishy, but there are some rays of hope in the picture

lol

@Wasif munks pgymy devil rays says bing
Because I use the Microsoft launcher lol

@RedwolfPrograms Is there a way to get New Posts to refresh once it registers 10 answers or 10 questions?
Or, a better version would be to only show the last 10 questions/answers

11:25 AM
CMC: determine if my sentence is sus (contains any word from the list ["sus", "amogus", "among us", "impostor"]. E.g Impostor syndrome is a sus sentence. a mog us is not (among us has to be together).
I don't care about IO format

@rak1507 also already done before (with limit on code size)

@Lyxal Case insensitive?

@cairdcoinheringaahing sure
It's a CMC, so whichever suits you best

APL case sensitive {∨/∊'sus' 'amogus' 'among us' 'impostor'∘.⍷⊂⍵}

@Lyxal Jelly, 25 bytes, takes input lowercase
The space in "among us" is really annoying :/
@Lyxal Jelly, 23 bytes. Takes input in lowercase, outputs an empty list if not or a non-empty list containing the word(s) in the input if sus

12:30 PM
@Lyxal d=>/sus|amo(ng |g)us|impostor/.test(d)
@cairdcoinheringaahing No, it'd be kind of redundant since there's the delete-after-x-minutes thing
(If it seems like it broke after the last update, it might default to NEVER and need to be changed to 15 * MINUTES)

12:56 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing golfed one byte off

1:13 PM
so many challenges posted yesterday and none yet today, I'm getting fgitw withdrawal symptoms

@Lyxal Japt, 20 bytes, with lowercase input, outputting true or false

1:52 PM
@RedwolfPrograms Personally, I prefer having it show all (using NEVER) until I reload, but that does mean I get ~30 new posts overnight. I'm fine just editing my own version, but I'm not too good with JS :/

I'll add it as an option

2:03 PM
Updated, but not bug tested. That's your job :p

@RedwolfPrograms Thanks! I initially changed UNLIMITED (as in the variable) from Infinity to 10 before going "...wait" :P

return 10; // chosen by fair dice roll; guaranteed to be infinite

@rak1507 This was posted today

ah, I wasn't counting that bc it was like 2 am or something

2:58 PM
Cause some quick googling of voting systems didn't present anything similar

Approval voting
Although downvotes would change it
It's similar anyway

Yeah, that was the closest I could find, should probably mention that in the question
Additionally, I wonder about the effect of showing the vote totals as voting takes place

It definitely impacts it quite a bit
As soon as I passed Lyxal I got way more votes when the main wave of users started voting
If they'd stayed a vote ahead we probably would be switched in terms of votes right now

The "battle" for first has been quite interesting as well, me and Bubbler have both taken fairly large leads over each other repeatedly
They're currently +3 ahead of me; I remember being like +4 or something soon after the voting started, then it stabilised; The three-way tie and Adam's stayed in third since it was broken; etc.

yeah unfortunately enough people probably have sort-by-votes that the early lead may as well basically dictate how the election finishes off
apparently i hit the repcap at utc 10am today :/ lol

3:10 PM
@hyper-neutrino Lies! Checking your reputation page shows you got +10 just over 2 hours ago :P

@hyper-neutrino That's why the use of comments for Best of 2020 was pretty nice

@user we probably could've done something like that. i don't think an RO election is really serious enough that it matters, though that idea would completely break anonymity

Why would it break anonymity?

wait
wait do you upvote comments?
never mind i thought people commented their vote

Yeah, that would break anonymity :P

3:12 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing wait wat ._. the most recent upvote that gave reputation that i can see is 6 hours ago

> +10 1 hour ago upvote Reversencode the given string
From here

the time given apparently updates when i get another upvote even if it cannot give reputation anymore

Non-you users can't see that :P

makes sense :P
but yeah +10 1 hour ago implies that 1 hour ago my reputation increased by 10 but apparently it just means my reputation on that post is +10 and the last vote change was 1 hour ago. weird

You love to see it :P

3:19 PM
So the voting ends in less than nine hours?

Or is there another day

@hyper-neutrino Yeah, that was the one I was talking about, not actually commenting

9h40-ish

So the second after 23:59:59 today?

3:20 PM
School wifi just cut out for a second and and I got very scared

For once the starboard has all black stars

@user okay. that makes a lot more sense. thing is i had an idea where people could like comment / edit profile a ranked vote so we could do STV until i realized that breaks anonymity, so when you mentioned comments i got the wrong idea at first :P

@user One of them is clear

Yeah I starred the pinned thing

@hyper-neutrino Solution: just hold more mod elections. Mods are basically ROs anyway :P
Plus it comes with it's own STV voting system :P

3:21 PM
someone actually did propose using SE's STV voting system for RO elections but like
a) that'd be hard to set up because the system is integrated into the moderator election mechanism
b) let's not abuse SE's features more than we already do :P
5

@cairdcoinheringaahing Hmm, I wonder who that would benefit :P

We should use cumulative voting based on rep. Who cares about fairness :p

@hyper-neutrino I suppose we could have held "moderator" elections, using the election page/system, then just appointed the winners as ROs instead of mods

> Who cares about fairness

The only problems I could see with that: 1) we'd have to convince SE to set it up for us and 2) the /election page would show 3 mod elections and 1 RO election :P

3:24 PM
We could host it on somebody's personal site and make a really neat cryptographic protocol

also the other thing is moderator elections send a notification to every eligible voter across the entire network and i don't see it being a problem only having people who either check meta or are in TNB voting

@RedwolfPrograms That's not a bad idea

The coolest part about doing that is that anyone who manages to find a flaw in the protocol deserves to win, in true coding challenge fashion :p
Or would it be a programming puzzle

Or we could have a comment in a discord server and have people reply

Ruins anonymity

3:26 PM
Brownie points Room ownership if you beat my answer security
@RedwolfPrograms Oh right

make it a kOTh and have people design the best crypt-mining bot, then trade the crypto for RO privileges

I guess to anonymously prove they're a real user, they could perform some anonymous action like an upvote on a meta post within a few seconds of a prompt

Do we really need anonymity? I want to go find out who downvoted me and exact revenge upon them

@RedwolfPrograms Nah, you have the 4 ROs decided by 1) who golfs the source code the most, 2) who finds a flaw first, 3) who's bot wins the most in an RO election and 4) who is the most popular

the thing is we need some way for a SE user to verify that an action is theirs without being able to associate the specific action with them

3:27 PM
@user I know who downvoted me and I may or may not be planning revenge against them :P

@hyper-neutrino Upvoting a meta question within a few seconds of a prompt

make it a fastest-code, and award whoever makes the one that generates votes fastest

We could just ping the creator of the website here and say "Hey, I wanna register for the election under such-and-such username", and the votes would be anonymous
@cairdcoinheringaahing @Lyxal Watch out! :P

@user But then whatever key they are given to register on the site could be traced back to them

We could use the system we have now :P
Clearly, the best system is that I vote by proxy for everyone
2

3:29 PM
@RedwolfPrograms The votes would be anonymous on that site, though, right? (and presumably, the person in charge would be trustworthy-ish)
@cairdcoinheringaahing Um

the thing is there's no way we've figured out with our discussion right now to verify that a user has only made one action (an action being a sequence of zero to eight votes) without also knowing the user's action

@user Well, that still requires trust in the site owner

@user I see no flaws in this voting method

Then the site's owner would be someone who isn't participating in the election, I guess

i mean, if everyone trusts me to keep it anonymous and to be impartial i could run something like that but a) then people have to trust me (though i am totally impartial in who becomes RO), b) more importantly, the further something is removed from SE, the more dead it gets
there is only one person not participating in the election not by choice :P

3:30 PM
@hyper-neutrino You raise a good point there - not a lot of people will bother voting on a separate website and stuff
We want to make voting as easy as possible

it's just like why i think hosting a blog off-site will fail pretty quickly

@hyper-neutrino I think it'd stay alive for a while. It just wouldn't get any views/interest outside of the few users who'd write on it

That's been the experience of every other SE-spun-off blog that I'm aware of.

3:53 PM
@OldSandboxPosts Good thing I made you handle long messages, 9 links would've broken the formatting :P

Hello
Is there something bad going on related to RO election

No, not that I'm aware of
We were just discussing alternative ways of holding them, as meta shows vote counts, which isn't great

why is that not great?

Oh
But that is a good feature

Not in an election

3:56 PM
it doesn't matter too much
imo anyway

If people know that Candidate X got 500 votes and Candidate Y got 5, they're generally more likely to vote for X

But you can see amount of the downvotes are very low

people vote for the popular candidate in all voting systems

@rak1507 Nah, it doesn't, but we were discussing alternatives anyway :P

If you still ban it, then people will see net score and vote

3:57 PM
also approval voting is good for a group of friends deciding where to go for lunch, not so much for a real election

potentially a preferential vote could be better but it sounds like a pain in the ass to do compared to an easy one like this

STV is better. but at least this system is better than FPTP
again, we just don't really have a secure and anonymous channel to vote other than on meta which forces us to use approval

Wow i didn't notice when i got 3 votes

30 mins ago, by caird coinheringaahing
Clearly, the best system is that I vote by proxy for everyone
I still fail to see a problem with this :P

yes, clearly the best choice we have
