Nah, explain it, but just don't say what language it is
Done correctly, I reckon you could overlap with Jelly, 05AB1E and Husk and no one would know which

@Lyxal "Caird" missed the opportunity of saying "Oh, no, not again..."

@Andrew I think there's already that challenge on main

i posted it and wanted to see how well people could do other values

That we having close vote means that people will close vote challenges that they think is not interesting.
If you do, make sure that you demonstrate that the challenge is sufficiently different from the other ordinals.
@Bubbler (where do you learn about things like that?)

12:52 PM
i suppose your crit is fair

@user202729 Do you mean the challenge ideas?
Some from experience, some from random thought, many others from randomly browsing the internet
The main reference is usually Wikipedia or OEIS.
Apparently I'm talking about this the sixth time

"Nothing interesting", is it?
Would be cool to have arXiv or something like that in the list, I guess.

@RedwolfPrograms Better alternative: exclusively use TIO. If it takes longer than a minute to run, it isn't worth running :P

@user I look forward to it. When is the busiest time on chat these days?
or for people to look at the sandbox

Dunno, timezones are weird

3:50 PM
I made a graph once of when CGCC was most active

@RedwolfPrograms I would love to see it!

That didn't work :/
There
I didn't label the axes though
Okay looks like it's 00:00 to 23:59 UTC
Each bar is one hour

fun fact that I discovered today: people genuinely still write fortran

@RedwolfPrograms what exactly are you measuring?
that is what is the y axis
labelling would be awesome :)
@pxeger there is a gnu fortran compiler that is still being updated!

Check out the room info, it has an activity chart for both hours and day of week

3:54 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing is that for the chat room?

@Anush It's number of posts in main, which should be a good approximate for the general activity level

I was hoping something for activity on the main site
@RedwolfPrograms yes that sound good

@cairdcoinheringaahing that is very interesting. I wonder why!

No, but how does it check for a difference divisible by 3 without a 3?

Ċ is "divisible by 3"

...
New fangled golfing languages and their weird builtins. When I were a young whippersnapper, we had to use a "divisible by" and a "3" builtin, none of this "divisible by 3" nonsense

lol

6:16 PM
Hey it's useful for FizzBuzz :p

@cairdcoinheringaahing A "divisible by" builtin? When I was your age, all we had to use "modulo", "3", "equal to" and "0" :P
You younguns take everything for granted.

You were too young to have to divide, subtract the floored number, to get the fractional part, and check if it's zero

Modulo? Bah, we had to do everything based on prime factorisation, and we'd be happy about it

@RedwolfPrograms Divide? In the early days, all we had was a half-adder, a loop, and a few spare NAND gates.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Prime factorization? Back in my day, we just had natural numbers, not prime numbers and composite numbers and unique numbers and all that nonsense.

You had half adders? We had to do the addition by hand and feed it back in via punch cards.

6:24 PM
@user Natural numbers? You young'uns don't know what it's like to only use bits, and half the time, we'd be lucky to have 1!

@RedwolfPrograms Punch cards, smunch cards, vacuum tubes are all you need!
Hell, you don't even need those
@cairdcoinheringaahing Binary? Heh, imagine the things we could've done with a luxury like a positional base. No, all we used was unary. 0's can do it all!

We didn't have vacuum tubes, we had to use normal ones. Someone would just flip them on and off, we'd have to send memos for each bit flip since they worked in the other lab.

Eh, when I was a wee lad, they'd send us crawling through the tubes, carrying the messages in our mouths. It built character, unlike you weaklings, programming with a keyboard, of all things.
Sometimes one of us would make a mess and clog the tubes, and the others would have to pitch in and help clean up. That's how we generated random numbers (and not those namby pamby PRNGs y'all use today).

Imagine having actual computers. We had to imagine our software, and some of us weren't that imaginative

6:32 PM
Okay, yeah, that went a little too far just now.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes, we can tell. :P

Q: How do the tag warnings work in the "Review your question" sidebar?

Redwolf ProgramsAbout a year ago, the new ask question page was rolled out. The meta post states that sites can customize the review pane in various ways. In my day, though, all we had was hard ware, no soft ware. It was rough work, chiseling at the hard ware all day, just to make it even add two numbers. Then came the invention of firm ware. It was still quiet hard, but less so. You don't know how lucky you are to be able to work with soft ware.

hi

well to be fair it says that that equation contains fine detail that has not been fully resolved

ಠ_ಠ I figured out why my brute force program wasn't working. I was referring to a variable ignored_pairs instead of ignore_these but instead a try... catch block

@RedwolfPrograms you've bearly scratched the surface of breaking desmos my friend

I've broken it worse, dw

This is my favourite way to break Desmos

This gets slower and slower as you approach -Infinity

@cairdcoinheringaahing I was expecting that, so it doesn't count

9:38 PM
This one's pretty clever

@RedwolfPrograms it seems that putting in 10,000 instead of 1,000 in there makes it glitch a tiny bit
@cairdcoinheringaahing wait... what? how?!

@Makonede People on the internet have far too much free time :P

i stand by my question. how xD

That's not the sheet music for a rickroll is it

9:40 PM
@RedwolfPrograms have you ever made a meme in desmos?

@RedwolfPrograms The chorus apparantly

@RedwolfPrograms wait i play piano let me check

Wait so you're going to rickroll yourself
By playing it

Rickrolling has to have some component of not knowing it's going to happen
That's why Spotify doesn't rickroll me whenever it plays it in shuffle, cause I know it's there

^
ok yeah its never gonna give you up

9:42 PM
I need to find a friend of mine who plays some sort of instrument and give them the sheet music without it labeled
That would be a self rickroll

true, true

I play bass but the rickroll bass isn't distinctive :/

that would actually probably be the best kind of rickroll
a sheet music rickroll
also here's a desmos piano have fun
well non-functional but still

@cairdcoinheringaahing that's right
It doesn't count if you expect it

@Lyxal You can't always be expecting to be rickrolled
Also, I just lost the Game :/

9:46 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing you clearly don't know me
@cairdcoinheringaahing relevant xkcd

@Lyxal i've actually seen one

Here's another one:
A man is driving down the road and his car breaks down near a monastery.

He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, "My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?"

The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, and even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. A sound unlike anything he's ever heard before. The Sirens that nearly seduced Odysseus into crashing his ship comes to his mind. He doesn't sleep that night.

@RedwolfPrograms we're planning a pitch to investors for our poultry business

10:44 PM
So redwolf. As a theoretical investor, would you fund our chicken industry based on our sales pitch?

This meeting's going to go great! I hope nothing unexpectedly tragic happens

Yes!
We're gonna succeed in the poultry industry

Wait, the meeting's happening right now?

I would certainly invest in your chicken coops
Wait a minute

JavaScript

10:45 PM
@user no, we're planning our pitch

@Lyxal Oh ok

@RedwolfPrograms I'm waiting
I'm still waiting

Never mind, I was beginning to suspect something but I figured it was too much of a stretch

@user huh?

There's no way y'all are secretly going into the two-doored car industry

10:46 PM
Leave the paranoia to me buddy
I can handle all the hypothetical stuff

Here's why you should fund us:
1. Chickens are tasty. Everyone wants to eat chicken (I bet even vegans want to secretly try one of those chicken patties)
2. Chickens are cute. This makes it that much more delightful when you eat them.
3. Chickens are small. They are portable, so you can stuff one in your backpack for a quick afternoon snack.
4. Chickens can survive with their heads chopped off. This means that you can eat your chicken's head and leave the rest for dinner.

Any other questions? Or would you instantly sign the dotted line?
