If someone needs some challenge ideas:

I hope to have a magic book that contains all possible challenge-suitable ideas.

@petStorm I have three of them. They are called Google, Wikipedia, and OEIS.

Q: The Fibonacci Cube Sequence

nthnchuWhat is the Fibonacci Cube Sequence? The Fibonacci Cube Sequence is a sequence derived from the Fibonacci sequence starting with one. The first 3 numbers of the Fibonacci sequence (starting with one) are 1, 1, and 2, so the first number of the Fibonacci Cube Sequence is the diagonal length of a c...

@HyperNeutrino can you reserve days 6, 11 and 23 of the AOG for me?
I'm also potentially going to draft one for day 9 and 18

2:59 AM
@Lyxal Sure thing. In any case I won't be done 25 before even December probably so I can always just move my challenges around; I probably won't have any day-specific ones as long as they stay in order.
I am curious why specifically those days though :P

Just because that's what I deem most appropriate for each challenge
No other reason

Ah, okay

No ha ha funny reasons (except if I also do day 9)
No specific patterns
Just what I came up with while going to sleep last night

I was just wondering if the specific numbers meant anything :P I was half guessing probably just random numbers which is fine, mine don't have any relevance tied to the number either

Q: Find the size of pattern in 1/n

vrintleThis problem is based on non-terminating, repeating decimal points. Let \$n\$ be any integer, say \$7\$. Then, \$1/n = 1/7 = 0.142857142857142857...\$ We see a pattern like, 0. 142857 142857 142857 ... In this 142857 part is repeating always, which has length of \$6\$. Or, if \$n = 11\$, then \$1...

Q: Filtering Messages

user760900I came across this problem on Leetcode (original, section 2; also attached below). I thought it would be as simple as counting the lexicographic difference between 2 strings (as exemplified here) and then removing 26*(length(A) - length(C) + 1). I've tried with a couple different strings and this...

Q for jelly experts: what's the shortest way to do 'zip or zero'? eg [1,2,3,4],[5,6,7],[8,9] -> [[1,5,8],[2,6,9],[3,7,0],[4,0,0]]
Guess it can be a CMC as well :)

@Sisyphus Q for Jelly experts could be the title of a tutorial.
@Sisyphus APL (Dyalog Unicode), 3 bytes ,⌿↑

9:57 AM
@Razetime cool!

@UnrelatedString That's the one. Knew it had to be somewhere!

...you know, it's funny how it makes perfect sense for it to take the filler as an argument, but I also can't remember having ever used any other filler than 0

The idea is that for the bijection question I thoughy maybe it was possible to use the bijection of 'interleaving binary bits', but it seems like Bz0ṚFḄ is not any shorter than the current 6... :(

@Sisyphus oh of course you can just interleave all of the bits in one go instead of reducing

CMQ: What's your ratio of upvotes to downvotes (on other people's posts)?
Mine's 155

As in upvotes cast ÷ downvotes cast?

20:3 (CGCC)

@JohnDvorak That's a :, not a . right? So for every 3 downvotes, you cast 20 upvotes?

correct

quick sanity check... If (7/8)^x = delta does this imply x=log_2(1/delta)/log_2(8/7)?

on SO it's 3:4

@JohnDvorak is that for my question?
ah I guess not

@Anush that's correct ... both questions are

Q: Polynomial Long Division

Ming-TangImplement polynomial long division, an algorithm that divides two polynomials and gets the quotient and remainder: (12x^3 - 5x^2 + 3x - 1) / (x^2 - 5) = 12x - 5 R 63x - 26 In your programs, you will represent polynomials as an array, with the constant term on the tail. for example, x^5 - 3x^4 +...

Q: A naturally occurring prime generator

JakubeThere are quite a large number of prime generating functions. Pretty much all of them are constructed and are based on the sieve of Eratosthenes, the Möbius function or the Wilson's theorem and are generally infeasible to compute in practice. But there are also generators, that have a very easy s...

Q: Curve Stitching

James WilliamsCurve stitching is the process of "stitching" together multiple straight lines in order to create a curve, like so: For an explanation of curve stitching, visit this website. We will be drawing our curve in the top left of the screen, as shown in the image above. Given an integer n (via STDI...

@HyperNeutrino (sorry about still going on about the AOG): I've come up with a kinda storyline for days 15-23 if you're interested.
Day 15: A sudden storm hits and the house where the party is being held needs to be secured (challenge [to be better worded]: determine how much weight is needed so that it doesn't get blown over or something)
Day 16: As a result of said storm, your party decides to help those who were impacted by giving care packages (challenge: sort items into boxes)
Day 17 and 18: Taking a break from the "hard work" (I'll write these... it's a surprise)
Day 19: Everyone calls their Ubers to go home (challenge: uber driver's perspective [kinda like day 5] ... don't know what exactly)
Day 20: You as the party host almost forgot to give everyone their presents (I'll write this one too)

Maybe put these in a gist or something to avoid taking up a bunch of space in the chat

yeah true

Those do seem like interesting challenges though

For the more specific details a gist (or sandbox posts) are a good idea, but (especially given how quiet the room is), I don't see an issue with posting elevator pitches here

@HyperNeutrino gist.github.com/Lyxal/77853aca538c743d6de8a8d0a61813d2 (that'll probably be my last AOG ping)

@Lyxal Ooh, a storyline. nice :D I'll reserve 17, 18, and 20 for you then, and I'll think of challenge ideas to fit those themes as I'm creating and I'll let you know if I come up with anything good

and 23
don't forget 23

right. i already have that one reserved along with 6 and 11

oh good
