Q: Build string with only two repeating characters

Isham MohamedGiven numbers a, b - both represent characters 'A' and 'B' respectively, where the function should return a string containing both characters 'A' and 'B' occurring a times and b times respectively but neither 'A' nor 'B' repeating consecutively for more than 2 times. Both values for a and b are gi...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Raghu RanganathanMAWP me an ASCII value In the esoteric language MAWP, you cannot display characters directly. You need to add and multiply numbers to get it's ASCII value, then print it with ;. Your task is to take in any printable ascii character a as input, and output the requisite MAWP code to get the stack t...

CMP: Is APL's a "built-in sorting function"?

Ada

Nope!

@Lyxal How does it feel like to be golfed?
@RaghuRanganathan com- totally. -fuse-: put together under heat.
These challenges are awfully putting several entire component of me together under heat.

Ada
Howdy, Lyxal!

@Lyxal I totally don't understand your quote in your userpage, that goes on about In this world, it's golf or BE golfed.
If you have been golfed before, I'd like to hear about your experience of that! (It's definitely a pleasant experience.)

@Third-party'Chef' It's an appropriation of a quote from undertale

@Lyxal So how can you exactly "be golfed"?

Ada
I think Chef is memeing saying you haven't been golfed
It's outgolfed

5:19 AM
@Third-party'Chef' get outgoled

Ada
Like the old "one does not simply ... outgolf dennis" meme

*outgolfed
and yes I get outgolfed frequently

@Lyxal I'm currently the only active person on this site that uses Io. So I never get outgolfed! (Also I only write in Io)

actually i rarely get outgolfed in keg

@Lyxal Obviously, because you're the creator.
Language creators know their languages REALLY well. They can be considered the "god" of their own language.

5:36 AM
Did you know that if you spell lyxal backwards, it spells the same?

Ada
No.
It spells "Laxyl," which is not "Lyxal"

@RaghuRanganathan it's true ;p

definitely truthy

@Third-party'Chef' I never get outgolfed in 1+ because I only solve trivial problems!

@HighlyRadioactive I'm giving out a bounty (without deadline) for outgolfing me in APL. No one earned it yet though.

@Bubbler Because you are very good at APL.

But I don't golf aggressively for long answers, so there must be some room for improvement. (Seriously, one answer of mine is over 600 bytes in APL.)

CMQ: Which is more useful for a golfing language: string + number = number (if possible, otherwise string) OR string + number = concatenated string?
Asking because I'm implementing/designing type cohesion for a new golfing language (Vyxal)

@Lyxal Sounds like PHP vs. JS problem.

8:09 AM
I assure you it isn't
I'm trying to create a system with the most effective way of mixing data types together

@Lyxal Firstly, concatenate both items into strings, and try to convert it to a number. If number conversion is possible, it stays that way; otherwise, the output should be a string.
@Lyxal A good golfing language does operator overloading instead of type cohesion.

@Bubbler Does suggesting further golfs to your answers merit the bounty?

@Adám If you post it as a separate answer. (Well, do you need the rep?)

@Bubbler Someone is claiming a lot of my bounties…

:P

8:25 AM
@Third-party'Chef' but isn't that the same thing?

@Lyxal Operator overloading does something entirely different than type cohesion, because operator overloading allows you to put several different behaviors that can potentially be observed by the user in a single instruction. Type cohesion just does an implicit type conversion; the actions of type cohesion, in general, can't be telled apart from the user, because the user can barely observe the differences without looking at the types of the output of these instructions.

Regarding codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/a/17337 ... I think that "totally cubular" can be brute-forced trivially, and complement a posix can be brute-forced with some proof on upper bound of the string size to test. Both results in reasonably golfed program (it's likely the golfiest approach) but completely unrunnable in practice.

@user202729 For complement posix, we already have two approaches (brute force and practical) for a simpler regex flavor. Porting one of them should work.
