A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Exalted ToastGolfing with 2s It is well-known that all positive integers can be represented via a sum of powers of 2. For example, 13=2^3+2^2+2^0. We can rewrite the 3 and 0, to get 13=2^(2+2/2)+2^2+2^(2-2). A shorter representation might be 13=2^2^2-2-2/2, or a more repetitive one 13=2+2+2+2+2+2+2/2 Challe...

@flawr Why though?

@Jono2906 Hey, thanks for the "anti-freeze" :-)

@LuisMendo happy to help
just doing the rounds, making sure nothing freezes

@LuisMendo There is no point unfreezing a chatroom when nobody talks inside. Also you could always request a moderator to unfreeze your chatroom whenever you need it.

@A̲̲ Keeping a room unfrozen means that people don't have to find a mod if they want it unfrozen. Also, feed bots don't work in frozen rooms.

A̲̲50 rep for winner of the Monthly golflang design contest Since I'm pretty sure I could gain at least 50 rep every month (and we don't have enough golfing languages), I hereby create this contest. What should I do in order to get the bounty? First of all, you need to make your own golfing lang...

@NewBountiesWithNoDeadlines We don't have enough golfing languages. What's the solution for that? Create a golfing language creating contest!

Q: Roll for Initiative!

bigyihsuanRoll for Initiative! Introduction In tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, when you begin a battle, all involved parties roll for initiative. In DnD 5e, this is 1d20 + DEX + Other bonuses, where DEX is the bonus given by your Dexterity stat. The characters that roll higher numbers go first....

@A̲̲ You really don't need to (and shouldn't) post noisy messages like this in every room you're in to keep it unfrozen. E.g. TNB hasn't frozen in years. (It's 14 days without user activity in a public room for it to freeze and 7 days for a private room.)

it has frozen before?

The first year or so, this room was basically dead.

ngn
"till tnb freezes over" - informal, synonym of forever

Probably will happen within the next five years. :P

5:25 PM
@totallyhuman IIRC it once froze for like a month before anyone noticed/cared/unfroze it
Way back in the olden times though

caird coinheringaahingUp to 750 rep for Flattening the Cube So far, at time of writing, the challenge has gone unanswered by anyone except me for 2 and a half years. In addition, I have recently released a new language, Levels, which is based around the idea of cubes. Therefore, I am offering 4 bounties: 50 reputat...

@Anush If you're any good with SQL, you might be able to use the TNBDE (The Nineteenth Byte Data Explorer) to find out. This graph (be sure to click 'Run') seems to indicate that this room has never been silent for a full UTC day since sometime in 2014.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Found an old message of mine where I said that TNB was never silent for 24+ hours since 2014 (at least, when I ran the query in mid 2018).

5:58 PM
@El'endiaStarman That massive flat section between 2012 and 2014 :/

Indeed.
I think 2014 had the Easter Egg game on SE and code golfers made themselves infamous by abusing it.

SE chat search is borken.

@El'endiaStarman Idk SQL, how would you find the max number of messages sent of all time?
Looks to be in 2016

@cairdcoinheringaahing What exactly do you mean? Max number of messages sent in what time window?

6:07 PM
You can sort the table. :)

Like, must sent in a single day? Single hour?

@DJMcMayhem By day I think

As in, click the 'count' column heading until it's in descending order. Busiest UTC day was 2016-04-09 with 4674 messages.

Wonder what happened on the 9th of April 2016?

Wow, reading through the transcript of that day is a throwback. Kenny, Quartata, Conor, Riker, Alex

You were both there that day, reveal the secrets :P

Zyabin and CJY too! I never realized they were both active at the same time
That's like an alternate universe or something
@cairdcoinheringaahing It was just a different time when the site in general and chat in particular was a lot more actiev

^ December 2013, lines up with the start of increased activity in chat too. Probably Winter Bash.

Do we know of any golfers that have met IRL after meeting eachother on PPCG?

@flawr Leaky Nun came to my house (for dinner) a couple of times after meeting here.
@flawr I met marinus here too, and then we became colleagues for a while.

Oh, hey, when does Winter Bash start this year? Is it less than 20ks?

@Adám oh right, I forgot!

6:40 PM
Oh wait, didn't I meet H.PWiz here too?

Yeah, almost three years of total silence. Then happened, and then later, StackEgg happened.
Ahhh that's right, was what brought users to the site, then StackEgg made us infamous.

Simon ForsbergStackEgg! What a great invention. Probably the best thing to hit Stack Exchange since the invention of unicoins! Very entertaining game, very fun to play. Many users have probably spent several hours playing this. And April Fool's day is not over yet. However, where there is great inventions t...

oh now I vaguely remember, thanks for the link!
I wonder whether I ever met other ppcgers without knowing:)

I've met a PPCGer, but that was because someone I know became a PPCGer, not because I met someone who was already one

@flawr I met Eelvex without knowing he was a PPCGer.

It was a little bit awkward when I suspended them a week later XD

CMP: Number of people you know both IRL and have interacted with on PPCG.

@DJMcMayhem Clearly meant to say 3 as to not break the chain :P

Crossed out 1 is still 3

I can think of 8 off the top of my head :-D

7:21 PM
huh, thats a lot more than I expected!
@Adám did he know it about you?

@flawr Yes. I use my real name and photo, so I was pretty easy to recognise when we met IRL.
