Q: Unscramble a video where each frame's pixels are scrambled

extracrispyGiven: A video where all frames have been scrambled with some image scrambling function T(frame). T only operates on one frame at a time and has no persistent state between invocations. It's just a constant random map that shuffles the same pixels each frame. The original video footage ...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Oct18 is day of silence on SESand timer puzzler I was googling for a sand timer and found this little item: set of joined sand timers, for 3, 4, and 5 minutes each. That of course reminded me of multiple puzzles about measuring X minutes using only M- and N-minute timers or whatever. The mission then, if you choose to ac...

Q: Days in indexed month

Luke SawczakThis simple challenge is very similar to this one: How many days in a month? The only difference is you yield the number of days in a month given the index of the month instead of its name. It can be 0-indexed or 1-indexed and can have a leading 0 if needed. February can have 28 or 29 days. The...

Howdy everyone!
CMC: Write a program that brute-forces an answer to the following question: "What is the smallest 3 digit number where the product of the digits is seven times more than the sum of the digits?"

@Jono2906 Do you mean, if the 3 digits are abc, a*b*c == 7*(a+b+c)?
Also, define "brute-force".

3:51 AM
@Bubbler try every possible combination until the answer is found
@Bubbler Yes. That is what I mean.

Q: Why did CGCC get so many views on November 5th?

Jo KingAccording to the site analytics tool (for those who have access to it), we got a huge spike in views on November 5th. (where green is new visitors, blue is total visits and orange is total page views) In fact, this is higher than any other period since traffic started being recorded (sometime...

my rep increased about 200 <_<

@DJMcMayhem Do you feel we need new mods given the current activity?

8:10 AM
@Fatalize Yes
I personally requested starting the election proceedings.
I'm a little bit disappointed to the reaction to the Meta post so far-- but at the same time I guess I'm not shocked

@DJMcMayhem "I'm a little not disappointed" is the not supposed to be in the sentence?

@DJMcMayhem How much work is it actually to be a mod? IIRC, a few people suggested to me that I should run in the last election. I'd consider doing so on condition that reinstatement is offered to Dennis and Mego and Monica.

8:26 AM
I doubt Dennis and Mego want reinstatement

@Fatalize Even if Monica is offered it first?

Don’t know. I personally don’t care about Monica’s reinstatement, since we still have no info on whether she was legitimately demoted or not
And we probably never will

@Bubbler It is nothing but amazing! Tell me how you got the value using just mental math.
@Adám Mine is "optimized brute force" because the brain can't try every value from 100 to 999.
@Bubbler To extend the not brute-force joke even more... Brainfuck, 23 bytes: -[>+<-----]>-.+++++.++.

9:53 AM
@A_ you glossed over the b, c step. We have a = 7, so bc = b + c + 7 so bc - b - c + 1 = 8 so (b - 1)(c - 1) = 8 thus the two solutions

10:22 AM
@Adám there is this for getting reinstated, though I'm guessing Dennis still (understandably) doesn't want to.

@A_ so don't post it.

@ Adám, I mainly do it just in case someone is sleeping and they accidentally leave their phone on vibration/non-silent so that they dont get woken up.

@Jono2906 So I gather you never call or email people either? Or knock on anyone's door…

A _
@Adám I don't use e-mails and not call people.
And knocking on the door is very rude behavior.

@A_ That certainly depends on local culture.
@A_ So you never contact other people?

A _
@Adám I am doing it in case that is true.
@Adám The people I want to contact with are near me.

@A_ Near?

A _
11:04 AM
@Adám Of course, like Adám.

@A_ I don't get it. You don't have friends or family outside chatrooms?

A _
@Adám I never make friends outside of chatrooms because there is nothing that they have that I need. I am avoiding to contact my family because they are annoying and disrupts me in the chatrooms.

@A_ Sounds lonely.

@Adám i do when I know they are in the same time zone as me

@Jono2906 But maybe they have a different day/night schedule. E.g. working night shifts.

11:09 AM
But with SE, I don't know where people are.

ngn
@A_ so you knock in the air near the door just in case they might be busy? :)

A _
@ngn I leave the door and try again later.

@Adám if they are local, then chances are I'll know what times they are available

A _
Knocking the door is hand-hurting.

Door bells and knockers exist for a reason.

For informing the people inside that there is someone coming.
@Adám Can we inform the people inside if we just knock the door one time?

@A_ Single knocks are easily mistaken for random outside noise. I tend to use "knock — knock-knock"

Sounds like a Morse code

A _
Imagine that when a door is being knocked, it produces a doorbell-like sound.
@Bubbler It is "d" in morse code.
You could just shout "d" to the door.

Meanwhile, someone totally ruined my plan to make exactly 10,000 rep by making serial upvotes

@Adám youtube.com/watch?v=DbW-A96UIm8 here, have the PBS stream

@DJMcMayhem Did you have an idea of who might candidate?

@Adám Dennis is free to be reinstated at any time if he wants. Mego's account is going to be deleted (eventually. SE is not being quick about it), and I'm 99.999% sure that there's absolutely no possible chance of SE offering Monica's diamond back
@Fatalize not really. That's the point of the Meta question

@DJMcMayhem Will Mego's content also be deleted? Has SE ever deleted a user's content before? Anyway, if SE doesn't fix its Monica debacle, then I'm not going to run.

Content is just disassociated, not deleted.

1:56 PM
I don’t see which active user might candidate. I don’t even see many active users tbh

@Fatalize Agreed. One of my main running points would be that I'm around like 20/6

@Geobits iirc he wants it deleted because of the licensing, etc.
> I am submitting a request for Stack Exchange to remove all of my network content, so that they may not illegally host it under a different license than the one under which the content was submitted.

IIRC though, this is not the first time they have updated/changed their license, and they didn't delete last time. I may be wrong, and I'm not arguing against Mego here, I just don't see them doing it.

I run on a populist platform of banning golfing languages, and win on the support of the 200-rep demographic.

4:38 PM
I'm not a fan of golfing languages at all, but eww :P
And yes, everyone knows that to win an election, you should focus on the voters least likely to participate.

Crazy question but maybe someone will know the answer: is it possible to polyglot Markdown and a bash script? That is, it will render normally in a Markdown viewer and will run normally when invoked like a script.

I'm not entirely sure how you'd escape markdown doing funky things even with just the #!/bin/bash header.

You don't have to have a hashbang, as long as bash is your default shell.

Fair enough
I think other than that the most frequent issue you'd have would be things like multiplication * being rendered, but I'm sure you could math your way around that.

@feersum So, if nothing else, it'd be possible to embed an entire bash script at the top of a Markdown file and then return 0; or whatever to end it before getting to Markdown code.
