Q: Looking for example ML flow for feature selection for increasing company's revenue

AlexanderI have a data set where company's gross revenue depends on number of features. I would like to identify features that influence net revenue for the company. So I want to build a ML pipeline to output which feature plays is the most significant. So, I'm looking for example data sets that I can ...

@J.Sallé It is a good idea to fry some bacon and add 1/8 grains of sugar. (Split a grain of sugar into 8 equal parts and take 1 part.)

Does anyone know how to make a constant pointer-to-pointer-to-pointer style multidimensional array in C?
I've written what I think is a functional submission to a challenge, but I can't test it.
(I know this is possible, because I've done it before… I just don't know how.)

So like const int **test[5];?
Or const int ***test;?

The latter.

Well they're almost the same
First just has a max size, but other than that they're both a constant pointer-to-pointer-to-pointer

No, I meant the data.

const int arr[2][2][2] = {{{0, 1}, {2, 3}}, {{4, 5}, {6, 7}}};

6:47 PM
@DJMcMayhem **arr will segfault.

That's just an arr[8] with syntactic sugar.

If you want it dynamic, I don't think it can also be const.

I found an interesting bug in my code

@wizzwizz4 Is contiguous memory a problem?

6:50 PM
@DJMcMayhem No…
But it's just syntactic sugar:

Just don't mix the syntactic sugar with bacon.

The memory at arr doesn't actually contain a pointer to {{0, 1}, {2, 3}}.
The memory at arr+1 doesn't actually contain a pointer to {{4, 5}, {6, 7}}.
@MilkyWay90 Excellent Hello, World! implementation. 10/10

@wizzwizz4 Sure it does: tio.run/…
The definition of "+1" changes depending on how deep you dereference it
(I think)
@AdmBorkBork Rookie mistake

#define bacon(x) int main(int argc, char **argv){x; return 0;}
2

7:06 PM
@DJMcMayhem Syntactic sugar.

OK, well either you use the syntactic sugar or I have no idea how to help, because I don't know how you could make a const dynamic array.

hey, earlier today there were some funny comments about trump below this answer. now they've disappeared without a trace. what's going on here?

Comments can always get deleted with no notice.

ngn
@DJMcMayhem seems unlikely that all people who commented decided to do that at the same time

I meant that mods can always delete comments with no notice.
The answer was needlessly political (and also invalid), now that it's fixed none of the comments are relevant.

ngn
7:25 PM
@DJMcMayhem indeed it was needlessly political. the challenge was too. i suspect most of the 23 upvotes were precisely because of that. yet, isn't censorship an overreaction?

How is the challenge political? It makes no judgement of any political figures, it's just about history

ngn
imo, a few downvotes or warnings would have been a more proportionate response
@DJMcMayhem what could be more political than a list of US presidents, including the incumbent? :) the exact strings or dates weren't essential to the challenge. a list of pharaos would have done just as fine and not stirred up trouble
and given the OP did use US presidents, why should a mod use the nuclear option on comments? that seems way over the top to me

We delete dozens of irrelevant comments every day, most of them aren't missed.

@ngn I don't remember the specific comments, but some for sure didn't follow "Use comments to ask for more information or suggest improvements"

7:42 PM
@wizzwizz4 Yes, it is totally valid

@MilkyWay90 Starts with H, ends with !… I don't see any problem here.

@wizzwizz4 How about ♥♬♬獯猬 ♗♯♲♬♤, the middle

@MilkyWay90 Shh…

@wizzwizz4 Yeah, they won't notice that
but do you see the bug that is causing that?

The space is correct, too. So, you spot-checked about 23% of the characters and they're correct. Statistically, that's enough to draw some generalizations, right? ;-)

7:46 PM
hmm'

CMC: Given a string, determine if it's a "MilkyWay Hello World". A "MilkyWay Hello World" is any string where at least 20% of the characters in said string are equal to the corresponding character in the string "Hello, World!"
3

@DJMcMayhem That could be generalized into an actual challenge

Simplified slightly
"Hel" should be true

given two strings x and y, determine whether 20% of the characters from x are equal to the the corresponding character in y

Wait... At least 20% of characters in the input string? Does that mean that "H****" should be true since 20% of "H****" matches Hello world?

7:50 PM
@DJMcMayhem Hel[l] is what Malbolge is supposed to be like

No, Malbolge is literally the 8th circle of hell

this bug was from a malbolge interpreter
I meant the Malbolge programming language

That's where the name comes from

@MilkyWay90 That sounds like the subsequence challenge that the acronym challenge was just closed as a dupe of.

@AdmBorkBork true
@DJMcMayhem true

7:52 PM
@MilkyWay90 I don't understand what it does.

@wizzwizz4 It's supposed to run a Malbolge program which prints "Hello, World!"
It's literally a port of the C implementation

@AdmBorkBork No, they're different
The subsequence challenge is just x in y misread it

Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, related but different.

@J.Sallé Does it handle multibyte chars?
It would be nice if it did

7:54 PM
@J.Sallé the cmc was updated to not require 13 chars exactly

So then the original would work

@dzaima bummer
@MilkyWay90 check the last test case in ^

Somebody should solve it in Malbolge

Go for it :P

7:58 PM
Brachylog, 15 bytes: l×₄/₅.&;Ḥz₀≠ˢl≤

I'm not that good at Malbolge for this

@J.Sallé 'He' fails; also, .2≤13÷⍨2<

except it might succeed where it shouldn't for some inputs longer than "Hello, World!"

@dzaima yeah I just noticed the mistake

i think this may be unsolved for years in malbolge
because of division
It's really hard to add, let alone multiply, and division is light-years away

8:00 PM
@MilkyWay90 it's not required

@dzaima How?

@J.Sallé Do the spaces in 13↑⍵ cause a problem?

@dzaima oh I see

@H.PWiz yes, as seen in my 'He' example

It may be feasible
I know just about as much as anybody who took a glimpse at the docs, so I don't know if it's feasible or not

8:02 PM

@dzaima You should put in @dzaima's fix
and I'm pretty sure @dzaima could help you golf it

With better behavior on long inputs, Brachylog, 16 bytes: l/₅.&;Ḥz₁{∋Ċ=}ᶜ≥

@dzaima -2 bytes

@dzaima a few did suggest improving the answer by having it output the correct string "Donald Trump" instead of "orange idiot" :)
now, of course i don't think that phrase is appropriate and i would never have used it myself (trump is definitely not orange), but wiping out the whole stack of comments without leaving any record or explanation of what went on - well, that looks like abuse of mod power

@ngn that comment definitely matches "no longer needed" as the question now does do that. There are many times comments are deleted because of some named & known reason, why should them being political be a reason for mods to need to take special care explaining deletions?

ngn
8:56 PM
@dzaima in my experience, the commenter is usually the one who decides whether to keep the comment or delete it as no longer relevant

Like I said, comments get deleted all the time for being no longer needed. It's usually not a big deal
