Q: Character Frequency in a String

bigyihsuanGiven a string of printable ASCII, output the frequency of each character in that string. The Challenge Input is given as a string of printable ASCII characters (decimal [32-126] inclusive). Output the frequency of each character, in ASCII order. The output must have a format similar to [chara...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

pixma140Count up to N without math or inbuilds Idea: The challenge is the following: count from 0 up to N without using mathematical operations or other (counting) inbuilds. You handle the incoming number N as a string on which you can't apply mathematical operations like addition or substraction for e...

CMC: given a group, ie a set G (not necessarily all numbers, can contain any data type) and a binary function f, return its identity element, examples

1 hour later…
10:16 AM
@Cowsquack You mean return I such that f(I,G) or f(G,I) is identical to G? But that doesn't seem to fit with your examples.

10:33 AM
->g,f{g.find{|x|f[x,x]==x}}

11:14 AM
CMC: Given a numeric list with at least two elements, return the arithmetic mean of the two elements that are the furthest apart. E.g. [2,6,4,10]8 If there are multiple largest gaps, pick one. [2,6,4,10,14]8
That's actually not so simple, maybe I should main it?

11:41 AM
@Adám I don’t understand how you get 8
you choose 6 and 10 but why? Aren’t "the two elements that are the furthest apart" 2 and 10??

@Fatalize The biggest gap when sorted is between 6 and 10, their mean is 8.

@Adám 1) yes 2) the examples have the set shuffled, maybe that's why they don't appear that way?

@Cowsquack Ah, now I think I get it. Your tables represent ∘.f and so I have to return G[i] such that G≡(∘.f⍨G)[i;]

ngn
@Cowsquack G⊃⍨G⍳⍨∘.F⍨G ?

@ngn Ninja'd me :-(
@Cowsquack Can we take f as ∘.f⍨G?

11:47 AM
@Adám yes

@Adám So you mean the two consecutive elements that are the furthest apart

@Cowsquack So ⍳⊃⊢ with ∘.f as left arg and G as right arg.
@DJMcMayhem Yes.

@ngn nice
@Adám no, just as the function... but I realise now my apl solution which was supposed to be a train used f literally
which was (⊢⊃⍨∘⍸⊢≡¨f⍨¨)g

@Cowsquack So it has to be an operator: {⍵⊃⍨⍵⍳⍨⍵⍺⍺⍵} or if we can take it as ∘.f⍨ it is {⍵⊃⍨⍵⍳⍨⍺⍺⍵}

{⍵⊃⍨⍵⍳⍨⍵⍺⍺⍵} shouldn't this be {⍵⊃⍨⍵⍳⍨⍵∘.⍺⍺⍵}?

12:00 PM
@Cowsquack Oh, I thought you said we could take f as ∘.f or maybe ∘.f⍨, but yeah, then that. I see now that your response was to something else. Sorry.
Slightly shorter to use instead of ⍺⍺ but makes usage very awkward.

@Adám really you mean "the two consecutive elements in the sorted version of the input that are the furthest apart" because otherwise 4 & 10 are the furthest apart

@dzaima Yes.

12:56 PM
@Adám dzaima/APL, 20 bytes

@dzaima Nice. Basically what I did too (yours is slightly better)

Q: Invert Some Switches on a Switchboard

VeskahInspired by this challenge. Goal: Given a pre-configured switchboard and a list of indexes, invert the switches at the given indexes. A switchboard is made up of some number of switches (v or ^) wrapped in -s and arranged into rows of varying length. Here is an example switchboard: -v-^-v- -^...

@NewMainPosts Hmm, I wonder what question has the highest upvote count in the NMP preview box.

@Veskah Probably the rickroll one
It got popular quickly
@Veskah We need a TNBDE expert!

@Veskah This question has come up before. I think the answer was like 6 or 7.

I see. Danke

Q: Zigzagify a Matrix

Martin BüttnerAs part of its compression algorithm, the JPEG standard unrolls a matrix into a vector along antidiagonals of alternating direction: Your task is to take a matrix (not necessarily square) and return it in unrolled form. As an example: [1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 2 3] should yield [1, 2, 5, 9, 6...

Q: How can I read and write a file in Malbolge?

Hah, it's been so long since I rep-capped I'd forgotten there was a rep cap

lol - I think I've rep-capped once

CMP: What's the most rep you've ever earned in a day?

200

540

@DJMcMayhem !
260

8:22 PM
It was just because of a bounty.

It's weird actually because both times it happened, it was on the Boardgames.SE, which is pretty dead by SE standards (less than 3 questions/day), but there are actually a bunch of people up/downvoting MtG answers, although only 2 or 3 people are actually answering questions.

200
A more interesting question is what's your most rep without rep-capping. For me, it was 182.

197
Fun fact: The most rep I've earned in a day (540) and the most rep I've lost in a day (500) are 1 day apart

@AdmBorkBork Counting bounties? You can pass 200 without repcapping.
For example on march 13th I earned 540 without repcapping
highest without passing 200 is 198 though

How about this: What's the most consecutive days you've repcapped in a row, on any site?
I've gotten 3 on a different site, but on Codegolf I have 2

8:35 PM
@DJMcMayhem my answer is a sad and lonely 1 day, on Boardgames.SE

Mine is 5 right before my 198
If I'd've had 2 more on that day it would be 7

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Sriotchilism O'ZaicComposing fill in the blanks Let us say that we have a particular set of functions on strings. These functions are kind of like fill in the blanks or madlibs, except that they only take one input and use that to fill in all of their blanks. For example we might have a function that looks like ...

@J.Sallé Hey, less than 1% of PPCG users have ever repcapped. It's not that sad or lonely :P

@DJMcMayhem 4 on mother

(0.711% to be exact)

@DJMcMayhem damn, those statistics

8:59 PM
@J.Sallé Wait, isn't it only 100? 50×2 for well-explained. But you're not new to CG or APL.

@Adám edited. I hadn't noticed the shorter answers

What happened to the "Featured" button?
Ah, it is not there when there are no bounties, and it is slow to update.

Q: 10 PRINT CHR$(205.5+RND(1)); : GOTO 10 in PHP (or anything else, for that matter)

JudyJust had a 'spirited' conversation with a co-worker about the succinctness of the following BASIC statement: 10 PRINT CHR$(205.5+RND(1)); : GOTO 10 It's the title of this book, and will simply print a sequence of / and \ characters, alternating between the two randomly, resulting in a pattern ...

@JohnDvorak doesn't work with f as logical and (or logical or) and g as { false, true }

That's not a group

11:54 PM
well in that case as input of group G I want a) the operator b) the inverse function c) a random element and my code is f(x,i(x))
