@NewMainPosts DJ, didn't we already have a challenge like this?
I can't seem to find one now, though.
Mandela Effect

@AdmBorkBork Are you thinking of this?
Reminds me of another challenge where we had to, I think, vertically repeat a character by its index in the alphabet. — Shaggy 47 mins ago
Caird thought it was a dupe too, but no one could find the original

Oh, that could be.
It's just that Hello World example looks really familiar
Jeez, Martin just got smoked.

7:34 PM
@AdmBorkBork BTW
One to go...

lol

I need #100 to be my best one yet

readies dupehammer

@DJMcMayhem Do you know how close you are to maintaining a good question record?

Well over

7:46 PM
Now I'm intrigued. The formula for finding it (in case anyone cares) is:
(total questions - negative questions - closed - deleted)/total questions >= 0.5

@cairdcoinheringaahing Out of 104 questions, I have 3 deleted, 1 negative, 5 closed

Counts repeat, so a downvoted, closed, deleted question would subtract 3 :/

So my percentage would be 91% which is well over 50%

Oof, that's high. I had a bad streak of questions when I was a sub-1k user, so have something like 15% D:

Hey DJ, isn't your Word Icicle! test have the e and d removal backwards?
The 'e' is removed before the 'd' is.

7:51 PM
Uhm... No it isn't. I don't know what you're talking about. And I certainly didn't just edit to fix it right now >_>

Riiight. :D

I don't make my test cases by hand, what are you talking about <_<

I'm just surprised no one else spotted it.
lol, your "I'm Melting!!!" test case has a duplicate "I m Melting "

@DJMcMayhem also are lines 5 and 6 from the I'm Melting!!! example supposed to look the same?

sigh

7:54 PM
@DJMcMayhem is it okay if we have a trailing line full of spaces in output?
(where #spaces = len(input))

My apl answer does have that, I assumed it counts as a trailing newline

How I love that Markdown uses backticks for code... `⥿`
My codepage looks just funny

@Cowsquack Since trailing spaces on the other lines are fine, I don't see any reason to disallow that. How should I phrase that rule?

"You may have one trailing line of whitespace, but not more." ?
yeah that doesn't really sound nice

Yeah, saying "empty line" sounds fine, but "Empty or containing up to len(input()) spaces" sounds really awkward
@Cowsquack Are you going to answer in V? :P

8:02 PM
I chose sed :P

Gah that replace syntax is weird in PowerShell

I can't clear my notifications :/

what
if you keep it open for a while and close, it doesn't hide them?

8:20 PM
@Lynn Canvas, 16 bytes. Fixed a stupid bug for this to work

Yay, Rainbolt found the pseudo-dupe.

What is the volume of a disk with radius z and height a?
2

pi*z*z*a

use \*
and yes!

Sorted. (also pizza)

8:25 PM
@orlp Pi * a * z^2 :P
Piaz?

Pizaz

@cairdcoinheringaahing Uhh ...

FWIW, I think they look more like icicles than rain — caird coinheringaahing Oct 10 '17 at 18:39
@DJMcMayhem I knew there was a similar challenge!
@DJMcMayhem What badge did you get? I'm guessing Nice Question?

8:51 PM
Yep

Good to see the old @NewMainPosts on the starboard again ;-)

9:13 PM
@orlp Since a = 0, zero. :P

> Failure is not an option: it comes bundled with Windows

9:37 PM
Many programming languages use = entirely wrong.

I actually read an article on hn about that just now
> For mathematicians, = does not mean equality - news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16833391

@Pavel thank god I'm not a mathematician, it would really suck if = meant inequality

9:58 PM
@Pavel It does mean equality in math. In C, = it's a store operation that doesn't exist as such in math; == is equality.

O_o First time this badge has been awarded since 2016

Any feedback?. Feel like posting tomorrow

If a certain prefix outputs 1, should the corresponding suffix also output 1?

Yes
Is that not clear in the spec?

10:13 PM
It's not unclear, I was just making sure
It looks really hard. You could consider changing it so that the output of prefixes/suffixes can depend on input but keeping the rest of the rules the same. That would make it easier and doesn't really change the spirit of the question

I'm intending it to be really hard. I might draft an easier version, but I want to make a challenge where I'm not expecting an answer within a week of posting

Even without consistent prefix output requirement I think it would be really hard

10:32 PM
Does anyone know if there has been a challenge on Clebsch-Gordon coefficients? I'm thinking of writing one but worried the challenge will be too hard

ಠ_ಠ I just posted, then immediately deleted a challenge (wasn't finished). Reckon NMP will post a link?

What is NMP

New Main Posts. The feed that posts new challenges into the room

@cairdcoinheringaahing Wow, that's tricky. I like it.

Q: Generalise "Do X without Y"

caird coinheringaahingDo X without Y challenges are notoriously difficult to do well, yet now we're going to make a program to generalise such challenges, so that you'll always be prepared in case one appears. Here, when I refer to a "string", this also covers a list of characters, or a list of integers representing ...

11:38 PM
@dylnan Half the fun of writing challenges is making them difficult :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing other half is basking in the reps.

@Downgoat looks two messages above Sure... :D

@ASCII-only what is memavail in Windows C#?

@Downgoat wat?
I don't think that's a thing.

I mean like the equivalent of a memavail function

11:43 PM
@Downgoat There's a few ways. new System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounter("Memory", "Available MBytes").NextValue() works

hm ok
I dont' have windows, do you know what syscall that compiles too?

Nope
(Or new Microsoft.VisualBasic.Devices.ComputerInfo().AvailablePhysicalMemory)

ah, thanks
