5:00 PM
looks like some sort of band, but haven't ever heard that in my life

How weird would that be? Who are your friends? A Texan penguin on the internet

Anonymous
@EriktheOutgolfer Heavy metal band. A7X is a common abbreviation because their band name is kinda long

I actually have. I don't listen to metal though.

@Mego got it, so generally old people stuff

Then there's Creedence. #reallyOldPerson

5:02 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing The awesomest Texan Penguin I know

@EriktheOutgolfer :(

@Hosch250 Creedence clearwater revival?

Anonymous
@Hosch250 I'm no fortunate son either

(I pretty much exclusively listen to classic rock, metal, punk, and progressive rock)

I love that band. Very nostalgic for me

5:05 PM
@DJMcMayhem Yeah.
@Mego That's one of my least favorite. My alarm is Up Around the Bend.

@Mego You should recommend some band for me :P

I like Bad Moon Rising too.

people talking about old man stuff ._.

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem Pick a genre and I'll give you several suggestions :P

I don't know if it's old or just niche

5:07 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer Aren't you 18~19 yo? If so, I'd say you're borderline :P

@Pavel CCR is definitely old (60s)

I'm 15 :P

@Mego Classic rock, please

@Mego Metal, of course :P

5:08 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer Oh yeah, it's Leaky who's 18-19

@Pavel John mellencamp

@DJMcMayhem thanks

insert rickroll here

@Mego Ahh, the good old rickroller.
(Never even seen that video :))

ಠಠಠ___ಠಠಠ

I actually unironically like Rick Astley's music

I basically only listen to Monstercat, time to get some culture into me before xkcd.com/586 happens

5:13 PM
I kinda like the rickroll, but I've never heard any other of his songs

If someone has a Sandboxed proposal that's well received and they're planning to post it, please do it! :( No challenges today

@cairdcoinheringaahing He had a new album come out in the last couple of years. It's pretty good.

@Mr.Xcoder I have the Language Quiz v2

@Mr.Xcoder Anyone remember when I did this and proceeded to flood main and take up half of the page with my challenges?

Anonymous
@PhiNotPi January 2016?

I don't remember lol. When did that happen?

Also, I need a tacky introduction

5:16 PM
Phi is a member for a long time

@Mego I believe so.

@Mego I might get in trouble for saying this, but I'm not really a fan of any of those
(although I've only listened to any of them a very little bit)

Anonymous
@cairdcoinheringaahing Looks good to me

Anonymous
@PhiNotPi I remember that. It was when we were trying to get SE's attention so we could graduate, so a bunch of us all posted challenges around the same time to get our QPD stat above 10.

Did you guys ever get a design?

5:20 PM
Have you seen our site? Noooo
Can't spell "November" without "No"

Thought not.

it should be obvious that we don't have any design yet

@cairdcoinheringaahing Oh, will it have a robbers' thread?

@EriktheOutgolfer Less obvious when you are never on beta sites.

@Hosch250 Kinda. Most of us use the graduation userscript/design

5:21 PM
@Hosch250 PPCG...beta? >_> we graduated long ago

@EriktheOutgolfer Well, sites with beta designs.

@Mr.Xcoder I think so, it offers a rep reward to robbers

FWIW, I think SE does a terrible job running their sites.

yeah we're generally let aside...

And I've spend like 5 hours on this bug.
I hate JS!!!!

5:23 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Looks good to me

@Mego ^^ that's your cue :P

Anonymous
@Hosch250 I agree. Judging by Dennis's reaction in chat, none of the current mods knew about this election before it started.

@Mr.Xcoder Alright, I'll post it in a bit, I have a JHT program to finish first :P

@Mego I don't know what's up with CR. There's not been an election since we graduated.
Of course, we got 5 mods right off, and then site activity dropped...

Anonymous
@Hosch250 SE laid off like half of the CM team, so it's not terribly surprising that things are running even more slowly than before

5:26 PM
Weirdly, this is the first PPCG election which will actually change the mod team

@Mego I knew that at least one CM had been laid off, but half the team?

Anonymous
@cairdcoinheringaahing Not true. The previous election removed gnibbler.

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman I may be misremembering. Lemme try to find the meta post.

Ah yeah, I forgot about gnibbler

Wait, also CJY and dmkee IIRC

Anonymous
5:27 PM
To be fair, gnibbler basically removed himself long before the election

Anonymous
@Mr.Xcoder Oh right, dmkee also. CJY was removed by becoming an SE employee, and then leaving SE.

Well, RIP my memory :/

Too many stars today

I know that Doorknob is the longest serving mod on the site

@El'endiaStarman I can't find the meta post anymore :(

ArnauldYou are given an array A of n strictly positive integers, with n ≥ 2. Your task is to map each entry Ai to: 1 if Aj mod Ai is odd for each j such that 1 ≤ j ≤ n and j ≠ i 2 if Aj mod Ai is even for each j such that 1 ≤ j ≤ n and j ≠ i 0 otherwise (mixed parities) Example For A = [ 73, 50, 6...

5:55 PM
@Adám Not surprising.
Basically, it's an OOM error.
Because Word can't access the whole computer's memory, just a small portion of it.

@Hosch250 Why can't it request more memory from Windows?

Anonymous
32-bit OS?

@Adám Because that's not how it works :)
Basically, every program on Windows gets a chunk, and it's up to the program to stay in it.

@Mego No, look at my memory; used 7 out of 16G.

That's really the Word team's fault, but it might be the size of the file too.

5:58 PM
32-bit Word?

Anonymous
Also ^

Anonymous
If the process is 32-bit, it's limited to 2 GB total, no matter what. When you account for expensive runtimes (cough UWP cough), the actual available memory can be significantly lower.

Is it possible to convert this code into a one-liner using lambda? pastebin.com/MmMpjWTa

@Pavel Ah, yes it is. I thought I had 64-bit installed. My bad, but still, that's a lot of memory used for a single 7-page document with four fonts in use.

I can't actually see the image, but I don't think desktop Office runs on UWP?

Anonymous
6:00 PM
UWP eats memory like crazy

Anonymous
@Pavel Office 365 does, I think

It just prints factorised form of number, eg: 24 - > 2*2*2*3

Q: Should this be tagged with ?

@ManishKundu f=lambda x,y=[],z=2:x>1and(x%z and f(x,y,z+1+z<3)or f(x//z,y+[z],z))or y

@cairdcoinheringaahing No.

Well, my attempts to slowly work towards socratic were foiled: I just had my first question in ages closed

Yep

@Mego i thought 32bit was limited to 4gb

I might bounty that one additionally

Oh wait, apparently I didn't volunteer for the bounties. Huh

@DJMcMayhem Shame on you :P

@DJMcMayhem you still can, no one is going to say "no, you can't give away your rep, stop that".

@Pavel Well yeah, it just means I'm not one of the officially designated people to
The C++ one won't win any way

@Mego I will

@DLosc BTW, I made a tag and put it on your relevant questions

eh, maybe let the actual volunteers bounty first?

How do filters work in Jelly?
ಠ_ಠ

@labela--gotoa What are you trying to do? I might be able to help.

6:50 PM
Filters work in mysterious ways

Atom or Quick?

How does Jelly work in general? :P

@moonheart08 By chaining atoms and quicks :P

@Pavel There are already 20 500 rep bounties offered. I think I'll pass

@Mr.Xcoder I'm learning Jelly by trying to solve my challenge, codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/142555/… I got ⁴Ḷ2*Ẇ j and now I need to filter the results to length of the input

6:52 PM
Use the filter quicks (Ðf and Ðḟ). It takes a condition link to the left and filters the array based on the condition result

i know, but how can I give the condition, nothing seems to work? How do I run a link on the currently filtered item?

@Mego Is it possible to overload a function by templates? For example, if I have a void foo<T> that only works for double, int, and then a void foo<T> that only works for std::string?

@labela--gotoa Try <your-code>µ<conition>µÐf

@Mr.Xcoder What µ is?

A monadic chain separator, and I'll let Xcoder take over, two people at once can be confusing

6:54 PM
It starts a new monadic chain

See syntax.

I'm curious, where does the "Mark II" come from? Does "Mark" have any meaning by itself?

I like the fact that FGITW isn't necessarily good when it comes to CnR challenges
@flawr In English in general or regarding the challenge?

English in general.

No idea. I think it comes from car brands

Apparently it comes from mark in the sense of a sign. (there is also an article on Mark II)

I think that's also how we used to call old sandboxes

7:06 PM
@NewMainPosts And that's 6k rep :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing I added
Because the output is fixed.

@Mr.Xcoder D'oh, how did I forget that?
@Mr.Xcoder Do you see any golfing tips? Tying with Japt doesn't feel right :/

I'll take a look in a few minutes

@Mr.Xcoder Thanks

But don't underestimate Japt.

7:09 PM
my first post immediately had me dderp

waah, it started working! But it's giving me duplicate results... Why is it so hard to find a function through in-page search in Jelly docs... I guess there is a function for removing duplicates, isn't there?

I put in the helloworld instead of my 1..100 program by mistake. lol

Yeah, I wondered why it was a Hello, World! program :P

@labela--gotoa Q
Hint: CMD / CTRL + F

@moonheart08 has one more clue about the language

7:10 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Thanks so much.

I already cracked it I think.

yup, that one's ruined. I was using it's sample helloworld to get ideas
lol
So i have to spam the random button more.

@moonheart08 Was it Nightly Rust?

hahaha
nah

D'oh...

7:12 PM
i'm smart enough to choose a random language from the esoteric wiki
for this kind of puzzle :P

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem With template specialization, yeah

@Mr.Xcoder Don't bother, it was invalid :/

@Mego But can it be done without specializing each type?

Woopie, actually got score equal all other Jelly answers in the challenge! :P

7:15 PM
@moonheart08 Don't underestimate what people can do when it comes to obfuscation. Case in point

@labela--gotoa you can join JHT in case you want!

Apparently it could be done with sfinae

@EriktheOutgolfer I know, but I'm more of self-learning type
but idk
i can
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We're always happy for new users :P
@moonheart08 What language was it? Or are you creating a valid answer with it? I'm curious now :P

not gonna use it now. VoidLang

Remove the space

Oh
So yess! I beat the other Jelly answers with my first answer! :D I didn't achieve this success with Japt

Also, why is the 5 in the input field?
You never ask for input

Because I wasn't sure how it works in Jelly
I was experimenting

7:25 PM
Both arguments are given as command line arguments

@WheatWizard (or whomever may know) Are either of these correct: https://codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/155007/59376
I really don't know, I think so, but that guy did make valid points.

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem I don't think so. You could do assertions

@MagicOctopusUrn the first one isn't 28 bytes...

@MagicOctopusUrn Yeah I've been looking at it. I'm just not sure I totally understand your answer

7:28 PM
@WheatWizard What's wrong with it?
@EriktheOutgolfer If I'm counting it as UTF-8 encoding it is, unless I need to use CP-1252 encoding for the answer. But I really didn't know which to use lol.

I don't think anything is wrong, I just don't know 05AB1E well enough

@labela--gotoa Also, is the supposed to mean 16 or are you trying to get the second argument? I think 16, but I'm not sure

@cairdcoinheringaahing 16

@WheatWizard So basically ask @Adnan or @Emigna on their opinion :P?

@MagicOctopusUrn consider the binary file your code is stored, if your code is 21 bytes how can your hexdump be 28 bytes? ;-)

7:30 PM
@MagicOctopusUrn Is the concern with the behavior of the program or about the storage of the code?

@EriktheOutgolfer If I was going to count the ASCII/UTF-8 code points then it would be many binary digits. The challenge specifies ASCII a couple times
Are you saying just take the 05AB1E codepoint for the hex value?
If that's the case then the 19 byte is correct.
If not the 21 is correct lol

@MagicOctopusUrn yes, since that's the other encoding you're using
You may use other encodings other than ASCII such as UTF-8 as long as all other rules are followed

@EriktheOutgolfer Oh, coolio, I'll fix in a min.

@labela--gotoa I'm not sure I understand your challenge. You say "output all possible parts of the sequence" but only output 3 numbers for each input

@cairdcoinheringaahing There is a requirement to support numbers at least >= 2048

7:37 PM
That doesn't really answer my question. I get this output for 2 as input, and the output in the question matches the first 3 elements. Do I only take the first 3 or can I output the entire array?

CMC: Is it possible to implement < and > using only min() and max()?

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem With ==, you can get <=: a <= b is a == min(a, b). Likewise for >= and max.

Do you have numeric literals?
I asked this question earlier with numeric literals and IIRC the answer was no

@WheatWizard Yes

@Mego with == it's easy, the hard thing is to do without ;)

7:42 PM
Apr 23 '17 at 18:41, by CartManager XD
CMC: Similar to @Downgoat 's question make a function only out of min, max and number literals that performs ` a >= 1 ? 1 : 0 ` for the reals.
The answer was no

@Mego So max(a, b) == b === b >= a

@labela--gotoa Never mind my previous question, my program was wrong :/

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem Yes

@cairdcoinheringaahing Oh right, I misunderstood my own question...
So my program was wrong too
Had to rollback
