That's some sort of security measure on the TIO server. It works locally.
Oh, I though you meant 139. Nevermind.
Hm, might still be a security measure. Or the newer Bash is smarter.

@Dennis zsh it turns out is not smart and just killed my computer :/

@Zacharý thanks for the great 404 challenge, it's a lot of fun and it's been a while since I've worked this hard on a polyglot :)

@Pavel I think it's the sandbox, which limits memory usage to 256 MiB.
Do you have swap?

@Dennis Yes, 8gb

There's your problem.

Everything is functioning normally about a minute after zsh crashed, except audio. Which is still not turning back on.

And I didn't get a chance to see the exit code when zsh crashed :(

Welp, time to go to bed.

5:31 AM
@Dennis I don't know if you can make use of this, but tcsh doesn't require a space before # to consider the # a comment. So echo foo#bar echoes just foo.
Oh, good night!

@EsolangingFruit Oh, nice! Handling 7 together with 3, 5, and 1 didn't occur to me. In fact, the use of Y was the only thing you did that I had in mind. Starting from your new version, I can get it down to 21 bytes with no flags. :D

6:57 AM
@DLosc So I've managed to get it down to 24 now by having a single print statement that prints an array, which means that I don't need multiple print statements or braces around the foreach. I still don't know what other tricks you're thinking of.

@EsolangingFruit In a sense, but not really. YO currently is just an unused variable; and since you'll almost never use a 2-letter variable when you have 1-letter variables available, it doesn't break anything important to turn it into an operator.

@DLosc I guess if you're not stupid like me you don't try to use uppercase letters as variable names

@EsolangingFruit Like I always say: there's a difference between stupid and ignorant. Not knowing something just means you haven't learned it yet. ;)

What I did was an instance of stupidity, not ignorance, since I read your syntax page and then promptly forgot it

Haha, okay. Of course, the way Pip treats uppercase letters is a bit strange.

7:08 AM
"The way [language] treats [thing] is a bit strange" is valid for a lot of languages on PPCG
The way BF treats memory, ><> treats program space, Jelly treats juxtaposition of functions, etc. I could go on

True. And the rationale behind it was to give me a large set of tokens I could use for adding builtins.

@Adám what's a function trace exactly? i can't seem to find anything about it online

Me too.

@HyperNeutrino The function reduction (insert that function between elements of) the major diagonal.

@HyperNeutrino In Mathematica, it's the trace, but using f instead of +

Python, 74 bytes:

lambda m,f:reduce(f,[r[i] for i,r in enumerate(m)])
from functools import*
I think it was just a really temporary thing. TIO briefly broke and then worked on the next run.

maybe downtimes due to the recent migration

@HyperNeutrino TIO is behaving very weirdly today

@Mego I hope you're happy with what you've made me do ^ Please review!

+1 no other comments
although you might want to define major diagonal? I don't know. It seems rather obvious from the examples IMO.

@HyperNeutrino Added, but really an answer may specify that the matrix is given in reverse, no?

Yes, I suppose so. (not sure why anyone would do that but I see your point there)

2:53 PM
@Mego Cool! I remember that, yeah.

@Pavel Now I'm working on the functional version :P

'@' : Operator(function = NamedFunction(name = "<Swap Arguments>", function = lambda s: (lambda f: Function(arity = 2, function = NamedFunction(name = "<Swap Arguments %s>" % f, function = Function(arity = 2, function = lambda y, x: f(x, y)))(s.pop()))))), this is why I should not do production

@HyperNeutrino ?

that's a single line of code :p and most people probably think that that's too many lambdas for one line
of course y'all are golfers so you might not even find that to be bad code :p but i know some of my IRL friends would not like that code :p

@HyperNeutrino Now I'm curious what it does. Could it be APL's operator?

3:00 PM
@Adám That's the one that swaps arguments / selfies (I think)?

@HyperNeutrino Yes, A f⍨ B is B f A and f⍨ A is A f A.

Oh okay. Yeah that's what it does, except if you provide a monad currently it just makes it ignore the left argument (I think that's } in Jelly)
I managed to shorten it a bit :P
'@'  : Operator(function = lambda s: (lambda f: Function(arity = 2, function = NamedFunction(name = "<Swap Arguments %s>" % f, function = lambda x, y: f(y, x))))(s.pop())),
now it actually works

Jesus christ. I'm planning to do this in my production code at work, my colleagues will love me for it. — Chavez Nov 4 '16 at 9:13

I might end up removing the whole NamedFunction thing because that was just for very early testing of stuff
@AdmBorkBork oh god why ;-;

Pretty sure it was said in jest

3:03 PM
@HyperNeutrino That's how works too. E.g. {⍵}⍨ B is the same as {⍵} B.

hopefully yes :p
@Adám Oh okay.

@HyperNeutrino Which language is it?

@Adám Neutrino (Golfing Language) (chatroom)

@HyperNeutrino Btw, if the operator wasn't supplied with APL, it could be defined with Swap←{⍺←⍵ ⋄ ⍵ ⍺⍺ ⍺} (and all whitespace there is optional)

but it's not implemented in APL unfortunately :( :P

3:07 PM
Oh wait I just realized that the reason I was getting confused was because APL can have a function be both monadic and dyadic, unambiguously

@EriktheOutgolfer What?

@Adám the language isn't implemented in APL

oh that's what you meant

@EriktheOutgolfer Some parts Dyalog APL are written in Dyalog APL‌!

@Adám not Dyalog, Hyper's

3:09 PM
oh that's what you meant

... Does writing APL code really take less time than writing C code?
(assuming proper function names and comments)

@user202729 Obviously depends on what the code should do. For some things, most certainly.

maybe sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes the opposite
but isn't that true for every production language

just like sometimes writing Python code is faster than Jelly code even though there's almost always less Jelly code

Sure. Every (real) language has its strong areas.

3:12 PM
mostly because you need to open 18000000 tabs and then copy-paste every single character you use :p
basic ones like reduce/fold, basic arithmetic, map, etc. don't need to be suggested because I will be implementing those
