> Your best bet is to either reinstall Windows in order to get the dxdiag.txt (which is a bit of a pain) or ask someone with a similar set up to send you theirs.
That is maybe the least helpful advice possible to answer that question.
Thanks random internet guy.

@ГригорийПерельман Röda parses everything before execution, ie. no garbage allowed. You are allowed to have semantical errors in unreachable code, though, like "calling" strings like functions.

@fergusq Thanks, tbh I already tried it out since I asked that and realized a bit how it worked. BTW, Can you allow unclosed /* comments so that the last section of code can be commented out without needing the two bytes for */?
Is TIO not working for anyone else? @Dennis I'm getting "Error: Server response could not be decoded."

@trichoplax did you ever get your ant koth controller started>

@ГригорийПерельман Just try to run it again

I've been trying for a few minutes.

4:08 PM
Can we see what you are trying to run?

cd /proc/
ls -A
Not anything complicated

Worked for me. I think it is probably your connection is intermittent and killing the response from the server

Everything else is up tho.

@NathanMerrill It's still high on my priority list but has fallen behind other things for a long time. I've learned more about JavaScript since first planning that, so I'm likely to start from scratch and put something simple together, possibly abandoning the zooming interface in favour of just getting a tournament runnable (then maybe work on a better interface later).

@ГригорийПерельман Works fine here. Are there any errors in the console?

4:14 PM
I closed the tab and the entire page doesn't load now, ERR_TIMED_OUT
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You probably have some server issue between you and TIO

@DJMcMayhem maybe you would feel more comfortable talking in a different room or something?
i hope you don't think i'm being unfair. i mean, you wrote one of the two answers to my only meta question, which was a feature request, after all

@NathanMerrill I recently made a human playable version of Flit (another sandboxed KotH) to see how much I could learn in 2 weeks, and it ended up playable (although only on Firefox and Chrome). This was encouraging, so I think I'll allocate 2 weeks to focusing just on the Ant KotH and see how much I can get done.

@MitchSchwartz Maybe. I don't know when I'd be able to though, I'm super busy right now

@Lembik Your continued promotion of your challenge is getting to be annoying, and crossing the line of acceptability

Especially considering it already has more than one exemplery answer.

5:09 PM
@Lembik I played around a little bit with MURAs and property X... the 1D MURAs seem to perform decently (as in, they give average-or-better results), but the problem is that the size of the matrices grows too quickly to allow for a practical search.

@Mendeleev That's not DO telling me, that's me finding out. The permalink I posted shows just that. What is the DO agent?

@Dennis It's an application you put on your servers, it shows information like CPU usage and top processes via the DO control panel and an API

@Mendeleev That doesn't exist for Fedora.

@Dennis Oh, you run Fedora?
OK, I see now that it's not, all my Droplets run Ubuntu so I can use it.

5:47 PM
Why would an application running on Ubuntu not work on Fedora?

5:58 PM
Can we reopen this question? I have an answer for it
I think the explanation I added is sufficient

I personally see absolutely nothing unclear in its original state

This could be extended to say "Given n, output the n'th number in the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, ... etc." is unclear

@MistahFiggins I think it was clear enough without your edit

@ETHproductions V, 0 bytes

6:03 PM
@KritixiLithos This is probably the only time that brain-flak can compete with V XD

As a matter of fact, even if solutions only have to work for the given section of the sequence, it will almost certainly work with every number in the intended sequence (ignoring precision/memory issues)

Jelly's arrays are just python lists right?

I don't think I would have realized today is the first day of Spring if there wasn't a Google Doodle for it with a tooltip. Thanks Google.
(not being sarcastic)

It's pretty much still winter for me

@Mendeleev Yes. TIO makes extensive use of SELinux, which has been pretty much abandoned since 10.04.
@WheatWizard Yes.

6:09 PM
@quartata I don't have any doodle :(

@Dennis Is [[...]] posible in Jelly?

I typed go into my browser bar with the intention of visiting google.com and instead it took me to golf.shinh.org :P

@KritixiLithos Southern hemisphere?

@ETHproductions HERETIC

@WheatWizard Yes, and the syntax inside the code is the same as for Python, without whitespace. However, it may not look like you'd expect when printing. To see the internal representation, you can use ŒṘ.

6:12 PM
Is it Truthy?

All non-empty arrays are truthy, just like in Python.

Ok thats good

@quartata Denmark iirc
So no

I wouldn't have realized if Q hadn't said anything. I guess in my head it's still winter

6:18 PM
@MistahFiggins The problem doesn't seem to be lack of clarity, but the fact that many answers seem to ignore part of the spec. >_>

I don't think there's a global first day of spring (even for one hemisphere). Any event associated with the start of spring (first bumblebee, first blossoms) will occur at a later date as you go further north, spreading over several weeks.
(or south, depending which hemisphere...)

I got my silver badge \o/

Nice, congrats!

@KritixiLithos woot woot!

Now comes the hard part: the gold badge

6:23 PM
@trichoplax Now I think about it, I've seen both recently

I'm getting really close to my first tag badge that isn't on PPCG

Ooh, is it Vim.SE?

Oh wait, I'm close on that too, haha
I'm 87/100 for on vi, and 92/100 for on SO

The closest I have on a non-PPCG site is on Puzzling (but I practically "left" Puzzling after I discovered PPCG)
^ 30/100 for riddle
This reminds me, my first impression of PPCG was a site that was similar to Game Development, but the people here talk about developing a game of golf.

@MistahFiggins Why in the world was that closed as unclear?

6:38 PM
Huh. I just passed 200 questions total network wide, and I'm getting close to 1000 posts

@DJMcMayhem Neato.
I'm closing in on 500 (challenges + answers) on PPCG, not counting Meta. Currently at 465 total.
I then have precisely one answer elsewhere on the network.

yet somehow it doesn't

Welcome to the real world, kiddo :P

I have 28 posts on PPCG, so ~54.36 rep per post (not taking into account bounties, edits, etc)

I have 32.43 not including bounties and 50.38 including bounties

78.589 here, not including deleted posts (incidentally, I apparently have exactly 500 total answers, including deleted ones).

@ГригорийПерельман I'm not sure if it is a good idea to add such features to a language which I primarily use for non-code-golf projects. I'm tolerant to code golfing in general, as I like the idea of "terminal prototyping", ie. that you can create working single line demos in terminal and then expand them to full programs later. But I don't think that unclosed comments can add any extra value at least if enabled by default.

77.5 rep per post for me
"rep per" lol palindromic

@Doorknob obligatory "only 12 til a round number"

Obviously this just proves that everyone is biased against PowerShell. :p

Have you used any other language on PPCG?

yes iirc
batch
VBscript, golfscript

VB and Batch don't count :P

then only java, python2, and golfscript
that's assuming none of his other answers have the word "powershell" "batch" or "vbscript" in them

7:53 PM
I wonder which languages have the most "upvotes"

Yeah, the Python and Java were for KOTH contests
The GolfScript one was accidental - it was cracked in that language, though that wasn't the intention.

@KritixiLithos some golfing language probably

@AdmBorkBork lol nice
do you remember any other langs than the ones I listed?

I have a couple answers written in BATCH file, including my favorite one showing that there's a difference between BATCH .bat and .cmd

ah
ELI5 diff?

7:54 PM
Maybe one or two in VBScript.

@betseg I'm guessing CJam
or Python

I wonder what programming language has the most upvotes per answer

iirc somebody made a query
don't remember the result, but python was pretty high

@Riker Surprisingly no, it has to do with the fact that the %ERRORLEVEL% gets set differently between the two, so you can determine which is which.

@Riker Probably 'cause Python is very well known to most people (and easy to understand)

7:56 PM
@AdmBorkBork I read line 4 in your code very wrong >_>

I would have to imagine that Python is the top vote-getter, just from sheer volume of answers.

but nice explanation

@AdmBorkBork But even if we're counting the most upvotes per answer, I think it's still gotta be Python

Yeah, likely.

The most voted answer on PPCG is written in Python

7:58 PM
Which answer is that

@fəˈnɛtɪk It's this one

@Riker hehe

Is the GOL clock the second now? Or is there another higher voted answer?

1000 upvotes, like, wat

Speaking of which, here's a 2017 version for the answer: print sum(ord(c) for c in 'Happy New Year to You!!!!')

@AdmBorkBork 683 upvotes in 3 weeks wow

8:02 PM
It's quite easy to extend thanks to the code points of <space>, !, and A
And the relation between the code points of upper- and lowercase letters
New half-baked challenge idea: given a year, output a string matching /(a )?happy new year to you!+/i whose code points sum to the year

The idea is actually pretty good

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU! is 1502

@Mego Oops. I was just being overly chatty. Didn't mean to annoy, sorry.

A adds 97, ! adds 33, and switching a letter from upper to lower adds 32

"happy new year to you." gives 2059, the most boring of years

8:09 PM
2059 is a great year.
323 OEIS Sequences contain 2059.

Hmm, I wonder if every value past a certain year is possible

Actually without the period it would have worked for 2013: "happy new year to you"

For example, 3^8 - 2^8 = 2059

Wow, that's pretty solid proof right there
Hmm, the regex doesn't include boundaries. I should fix that
/^(a )?happy new year to you(!*|\.*)$/i

8:13 PM
i think 2016 was the best year in this decade
@Riker lest assume there are infinitely different universes. like the real numbers between 0 and 1. they are infinite. 2 isnt one of them.

but seriously though, i thought this exact thing (the image you posted) before, and came to a similar conclusion.
@Riker wow

@betseg I agree

8:16 PM
i dont mean the year itself btw, the number

Now you've got me considering the universe where the number 2016 doesn't exist

But how can we be sure that the set of all universes has the same cardinality as the set of all real numbers between 0 and 1?

@betseg doesn't ping me

ckjbgamesShh... Can you Split a Secret? cryptographycode-golf In Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schnieier (which I have been reading quite a lot recently), a protocol for splitting secrets is discussed. Here is a brief description: Trent generates a random string, R, the same length as the message,...

Do you think this is ready to go or should I wait longer?

@DJMcMayhem I'm decent at FPS games. Not stellar, sure, but decent. But it's frustrating that my SR is based on how well my team did and has no bearing on how well I did. So, having a match where I have 22 eliminations (gold), 11 objective elims (gold), and 19000 damage (gold), but it's a loss, and my SR goes down. That's really frustrating.

@AdmBorkBork I don't have and FPS games, but I have Smash 4

@AdmBorkBork oh, I can totally see how that would suck. What champions do you usually play?

I think I'm probably best with DVa, but I have most of my time with Tracer or Hanzo. I'm starting to try out Reaper and am enjoying it.

Nice. I like tracer a lot too. She's got a really fun and unique play style. I like Hanzo too, but I'm a terrible sniper, so I don't pick him very often
Thankfully he's easier than widow and Ana

i don't see a reason why ana has a scope
she can't headshot iirc

Speaking of the multiverse theory: if there are infinite universes, then there are infinite humans to consider the multiverse. if there aren't there is only one universe with humans to contemplate the multiverse theory.
Therefore it is most likely that the multiverse theory is true
actually it is a multiverse hypothesis isn't it

@Lembik check out this article on coded masks: universe.gsfc.nasa.gov/archive/cai/coded_intr.html

CMC: how many bits do you at least need to store one million 32-bit integers, if you do not care about their order

10:40 PM
in particular this diagram:

i have fond memories of darbian saying "holy cow" over and over in one of his smb vids

@orlp I remember this road we've been down...

The relationship between this and the Joy of X challenge is pretty clear.

@orlp hmmm, so how many combos of one million 32 bit integers are there...

10:42 PM
@MitchSchwartz lol

And I will firmly say that $32e6$ is still my choice answer, regardless of a more efficient method.

@ATaco but why would you need that many

That's if you care about the order.

@ATaco that's 2^(number of bits you need)

And I always care about the order.

10:44 PM
Most of us don't have latex buddy

The trick here is that {1, 2} and {2, 1} are identical.
Also, I think you can guess how that renders regardless.

yup, but how do you calculate it...

I'm going to do a short writeup, also trying to solve this myself...

the problem also arises from the fact that they can have the same value

Basically, all combinations that are not equal to themselves sorted, shouldn't be counted.

10:51 PM
yup, but what is the formula for that...
we need something that can be computed before we get bored
also probably general things are good
you can probably calculate with recursion like a factorial...

maybe you guys should try it with a simplified problem first?

yup, how bout 4 with two bits

Unicode 10 will have a swearing emoji and a vomiting emoji

how many bits does it take to store four 3-bit integers, ignoring order?

hey should we make a room for this?

10:54 PM
eh it's a cmc

I think it will involve triangle numbers
for storing two integers, ignoring order, you get a triangular number
here is a thing showing what the first number is and how many possibilities there are for the second number then
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1

there's no need to get so complicated

I think it is just triangular numbers but going into higher dimensions like tetrahedral numbers

how many ways can you take sets of four socks from piles of 8 colors?

ok its n-triangle-pyramid numbers
or whatever you want to call it
