@flawr: This Math.SE question just reminded me of how, yesterday while I was tutoring a student in Differential Equations, I decomposed a fraction into three parts (Wikipedia). I then had something like an epiphany where I realized that the denominators of the resulting fractions were basically basis vectors.

West in Peace

9:05 PM
Unfortunately, the student didn't know Linear Algebra, but man, that was a cool realization.
The fraction was $\frac{x^2+1}{x-x^3}$, incidentally, which decomposes to $\frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{1-x} - \frac{1}{1+x}$. Since these are linearly independent, it immediately follows that any polynomial with $x-x^3$ in the denominator and a numerator that is at most degree 2 can be decomposed into fractions with denominators $x$, $1-x$, and $1+x$.

@MartinEnder If that helps, my alternative to Evernote is a bunch of plain text files in Dropbox, conveniently placed in a folder called "Notes" :-D

Where can I get a nice humanoid shape for POV-Ray 3.7?

@LuisMendo Thanks, I've gone with Google Keep for now. Looks promising so far :)

@zyabin101 tf3dm.com

It should be editable, as in, you can easily move the humanoid's hands/feet.
I also found makehuman.org, however I'm not sure if it works on my system, and also if it exports to POV-Ray.

10:41 PM
Heyo!

What I don't like about Evernote (I never used it, so I may be wrong) is that it seems to be one of those apps who wants to do everything: notes, calendar, OCR, and probably more. But then, I'm probably wrong, as everyone seems to like. What was your experience with it? Why are you moving away?
@MartinEnder ^^

> You will need about half a gigabyte of free disk space.
I do have a few gigs, but apps can't be so bloated.
> In general, your graphics card should support OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL) version 1.2 or above.
No. Just no.

Doesn't sound that bad

@zyabin101 I loved to use POV-Ray 4 years ago, before I really got into programming :) Maybe I should download it again sometime...

:D

10:47 PM
That's actually what I created the first version of my avatar with (it had shadows an a very sharp perspective compared to the regular version)

Show it to me :3

I was going to, but I can't find it :(
I think it's on another computer, lemme check

@LuisMendo it does try to do everything but I didn't really mind that (I just ignored the features I didn't use). I'm moving away from it because they've changed their business model so that you can now only use it for free on two devices and I don't use it so actively that I feel like paying for it.

@MartinEnder Oh. That's a very good reason. Thanks for the info!

@zyabin101 You don't have OpenGL 2.0?
GLSL 1.2 is a pretty moderate requirement considering it's 13 years old

10:54 PM
@zyabin101 That's small. For comparison: A full Visual Studio install (w/ all emulators) + R# + Intel Parallel XE comes close to 45GB.

It's pretty impressive (the disk space) for something that probably has a metric ton of bundled assets actually

@zya gtg, but I'll ping you when I find the avatar

@ETHproductions Okai :3

If your GPU doesn't support it, just get a 5450. It's dirt cheap, handles PCs from the stone age very well and can be OC'ed with no limits.

Just realized that we're coming up on Winterbash 2016 then realized that the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about the winter season is Winterbash and not Christmas
is that a bad thing

11:03 PM
@mınxomaτ One question: I can't afford one.

It's <$15.
And that's not a question.

Not just a pricing issue, but: pricing, will it work on my PC, how to set it up, ...

Well, if you don't even want to spent a few seconds googling that, you don't get to complain about it.

Do you have a GPU? I'd be surprised if it doesn't have GLSL 1.2

Nearest I could find is ASUS Radeon HD 5450.

11:06 PM
@zyabin101 So what?

And it's 2300 RUR here.

That's still cheap.
What is you current GPU?

idk

@zyabin101 Then how would you know it doesn't support 1.2!?!

glxinfo?

11:08 PM
Download this and post a screenshot of the window.

Does Windows not come with something like glxinfo

No.

Huh.

Most users would never need it.

I suppose but I figured it would be crammed in with all the other system info stuff

11:12 PM
@mınxomaτ Okay, I'll just download GPU-Z and send you a screenshot of this. Okai :|

Keep in mind to select the dedicated GPU (i.e. the faster one) from the bottom dropdown if you have one.

(Oh look, I stumbled upon framsticks.com, which is a cool artifical life software, is open source, shareware, but has a free command line interface. WANT.)

but I forgot the [...x] bit

@RohanJhunjhunwala I have more questions.

CMC: Input is a number, n. Output is {Fibonacci(n)} + {Sum of prime factors of n} + {(n+n)}

Max "n" value is ten million, you'll never get anything more than that. No builtlins, no cheating, no loopholes, etc.

@xnor I opened up a chat room invite. Or you can ask them here

@TheBitByte builtins for fibonacci, prime factors, addition, and doubling? Or what?
you didn't answer my question.

The answer is yes.

11:47 PM
To all of those functions?

Yes.

yeah that's not fun.

It's a bit interesting.
Which is sort of fun.

@TheBitByte Sum of unique prime factors? i.e. sum of prime factors of 12 -> 2+2+3, or 2+3?

no, it's actually really boring. implementing addition is just useless and has been done for; doubling is basically the same thing.

11:49 PM
@ETHproductions By definition, every integer has a unique prime factor. I don't understand what you mean.

@TheBitByte unique prime factors versus all prime factors.

@ConorO'Brien What if allowed builtins? Would you easy it's easier and then solve it?

@TheBitByte I mean sum of all prime factors, or sum of all unique prime factors?

@TheBitByte yes, I would solve it then.

I wouldn't.

11:50 PM
@ConorO'Brien Every integer has only one unique set of prime factor. It doesn't matter how you arrange it.

@TheBitByte that's false. 6 has two.

It's still just two existing challenges slammed together

@ConorO'Brien By "prime factor" I mean "set of prime factors"

@quartata call it three
@TheBitByte so you want a prime factor set?

@TheBitByte He's asking if you want prime factors with multiplicity

11:53 PM
@ConorO'Brien Look. The set of prime factors of 1,000,000 are: {2^6*5^6} There is no other possible set of prime factors, by definition. Arranging numbers but not changing them doesn't count, because the arrangement isn't labelled as unique in this case.

@TheBitByte typically, prime factors are without exponents. which is why I asked the clarifying question. So you want {2. 5}?
also, proofread your messages before you send them.

@ConorO'Brien Oh, now I see. I want them with multiplicity.

This has nothing to do with the question. Is 12 mapped to 2+2+3 or 2+3
OK there
No I mean plus since you were asking for sum

@quartata Ohh, okay then.

how about a test case?

11:59 PM
OK, I'm building this one part at a time. Here's sum of prime factors in JS:
f=(x,n=2)=>x>1?x%n?f(x,n+1):n+f(x/n):0
