@Downgoat Do you want an option to install the latest tagged stable, or just the latest code?

I am in shock i made osmething and it worked first time

In other words, how should I implement version control?

user214599
0xfaceb00c

@thepiercingarrow last tagged stable is the default branch (git clone http://github.com/cheddar-lang/Cheddar.git). latest code/nightly builds are in develop branch so: git clone -b develop http://github.com/cheddar-lang/Cheddar.git

7:01 AM
@Downgoat Okay, so I can safely draw the code from master, and that will be stable?

user214599
Can anyone speak hexspeak

@thepiercingarrow uh >_> akwardly no. use release-1.0.0 for stable

0xb00b

I'm confused. Okay where do you want brew install cheddar-lang/homebrew-cheddar/cheddar to get the code from?

user214599
0x1010101

7:03 AM
Also do you want Cheddar capitalized?

@MatthewRoh no because goat is not hex digits

@Katenkyo Development takes time. Like a long time. Even if they had a lot of the systems from Ingress, they still had to convert it to Pokemon. Finding/catching Pokemon and gyms are completely new, and are pretty complex systems. Most of the items in PoGo don't have Ingress parallels. Plus, 3-team gameplay is more complex than 2-team gameplay.

@thepiercingarrow that would be nice
@thepiercingarrow the branch release-1.0.0

@Mego And now they are probably busy putting out fires in the server rooms. Doesn't help that people in countries where PG isn't available yet are essentially DDoSing the servers with unofficial APKs.

@Downgoat Got it

question: Should I support s/foo/bar/ literals?
question: what should the filesystem namespace be called?

Anonymous
@mınxomaτ That's very true. They've probably had to replace all of their Pikachus that were powering their servers, multiple times.

Anonymous
@Downgoat Yes

Anonymous
@Downgoat files or fileio

7:09 AM
not fs or FILESYSTEMNAMESPACE?

@Mego Sure that as long we don't see what's in the code we won't see how difficult it was

Anonymous
fs would be ok but not as readable

@mınxomaτ Speaking of that, why wasn't it realeased everywhere at the same time? ^^

@Mego because this File system library will also be writing/reading from streams so files doesn't cut it

Anonymous
@Katenkyo The first law of software engineering is, if it seems easy to a layman, it's very hard, and if it seems hard to a layman, it's probably easy.

Anonymous
7:11 AM
@Downgoat So fileio or just io (if you're going to shove every I/O-related thing in the namespace)

@Mego ok, good idea, i already have IO namespace

@Mego so does that mean a recursive function calculating the fibonnacci sequence is incredibly hard? ^^

Anonymous
@Katenkyo Because nobody can be prepared for a global release of something that requires central servers. Developers and publishers are barely ever ready for just a North America release of games. Millions of players at the same time will stress even the beefiest server setups, and you can't just "add more servers" - servers don't grow on trees.

Anonymous
Especially when you consider that average and peak player counts will drastically go down after a few weeks, regardless of the game.

7:14 AM
@Mego I'm pretty sure "millions" is an understatement. They'd probably have tens of millions if not almost a hundred million players if they released worldwide

Anonymous
@Downgoat I was referring to just a NA release.

@Mego That's a good point
And by the way, servers do grow on trees in what we call server farms (a)

user214599
Eating your own dog food, also called dogfooding, is a slang term used to reference a scenario in which a company uses its own product to test and promote the product. == Introduction == Dogfooding can be a way for a company to demonstrate confidence in its own products, and a way to test it in real-world usage. Hence dogfooding can act as both quality control and a kind of testimonial advertising. InfoWorld commented that this needs to be transparent and honest: "watered-down examples, such as auto dealers' policy of making salespeople drive the brands they sell, or Coca-Cola allowing no Pepsi...

Anonymous
@Katenkyo But the number of servers is finite, and those servers have a lot of people who want to use them.

@Katenkyo though imagine how big of a farm you'd need to feed the entire world at once.

Anonymous
7:16 AM
What most developers do is make conservative initial estimates, maybe add a few more servers during the launch, and then scale appropriately once the initial hype has died down, based on how many players they retain.

Anonymous
It's easy to add more servers. It's not so easy to remove servers - you've already paid for them, and if they go unutilized/underutilized, that's a waste of money.

@Downgoat just replace one of this useless food farm with server farms and you're done :D
@Mego I get your point, didn't think of the scalability and the fact that lots of people won't remain active for long ^^

@Mego Actually, in more enterprise situations, physical servers may be added and removed on a daily basis with little to no additional cost.

@LeakyNun got an interesting solution for your challenge, exploiting gmatch for once :)
@mınxomaτ the problem isn't removing them here, it's buying them for literally nothing

Anonymous
@mınxomaτ It depends on the server host

7:27 AM
Even if, as a SysAdmin, I consider that having some more servers being the right thing to do

Damn this game. It's made me walk 50 miles or more so far :/

@Geobits mmm.... 75 km?

Well, it says 64km in game, but it's ridiculously bad at tracking. I usually get 0.5-0.7km from what I know is a 1km looped path.

@Geobits People complained a lot about that. ^^

Anonymous
@Geobits Just wait until you've walked 500 miles. Then, it'll make you walk 500 more. When you finally get home, you'll fall down at your door.

7:31 AM
On the plus side, I hatched me a nice fat snorlax tonight :)

@Geobits Blame GPS. Your resolution with cellular data is probably around 500 meters.

Meh. Android's Fit app tracks it just fine, and I'm fairly sure it uses GPS too.
Well, not perfectly, but closer to the 90% range.

@Mego mh, you don't have a way to generate the [1,2,3,4,5] array? like , in CJam

@ven Yep! It's similar to an older easter egg that never got discovered, which had to be removed back in v1 because it broke too many things.

Anonymous
@ven 5R does it, but I wanted it to be explicit. Plus, it padded it to 15 bytes.

@Mego I remember something along those lines. But I never learned Seriously :).

@Mego okay, fair

9:54 AM
@ven well, one way is to convert to string and check the characters :p

ven
@aditsu convert to string, check all characters are between 0 and 9?
@aditsu the actual reason I want to do that... When I try a new golfing language, I port a set of examples to train myself. So far I have those in APL, J, Jelly, Pyth and now CJam...

Anonymous
Maybe set difference of input with [0..9], then boolean inverse? I don't know how that would be done in CJam.

ven
mh, I guess Actually is a stack-based lang then?

@ven yeah.. not sure if there's an easier way if you have to handle every possible type; I could add more operators later to check the type

ven
seeing the 9u, probably makes a range?
@aditsu is there set difference? I'd be happy with that

@ven sure, -

ven
10:03 AM
then I can just 1 2 "hey"]{9,-CHECK EMPTY}:*, right? with "CHECK EMPTY" being something that... checks if it's empty

@ven because it's the only site that has all the features I want; also, now it's under new management and they're not doing shady stuff anymore

ven
maybe f is shorter here...
@aditsu I know they're not! But I've grown used to github...
also git.

basically, I hate git
I hear it has all the power of hg, but it has none of the user-friendliness

@ven Correct :)

ven
@aditsu okay, fair. Well I'd still prefer bitbucket to SF, but hey. Your language, your pick!

Anonymous
10:07 AM
@ven 9u pushes 10. It's 9+1. The r makes the range.

ven
I've hated hg everytime I've used it.
@Mego arguably 9u is a pretty bad way to write 10 :P

Anonymous
I use git because I know git and I don't know svn or hg, and I don't see a reason to learn them, because git does everything I need it to do.

Anonymous
@ven Well 10 would push a 1, then a 0.

ven
@Mego ah, that's how it works
.oO( my tokenizer only likes terminals. No, not those terminals... )

@ven bitbucket is missing certain features, e.g. forums I think; I'm also really not used to the interface

ven
10:09 AM
fact is, more people have a github account and keep up with it than SF. And forums aren't all that used in 2016.

I got that compose key now

that's probably true, but I don't understand why :)

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Anonymous
The other option would be to parse the longest possible numeric from the code (the way : does it), and use a NOP to separate the numbers. But that wouldn't provide any benefit for 10, and make it very difficult to push 10, then 1. With the current system, it's 9u1. With the other system, it'd be 10?1.

btw, I think somebody mirrored CJam on github

10:11 AM
wtf
why isn't it wokring

Forums are generally assumed to be cesspits of the internet nowadays. Nobody uses site-specific forums, they just use Reddit. Reddit is a cesspit most of the time, but at least it's a manageable, centralized cesspit.

@aditsu social medias had people move away from forums those last 10 years

Gaming is a good example of that: for every game I've played, its onsite forums have a terrible community, while the Reddit community is (usually) quite good (DotA 2 being the main exception).

hi @orlp. I think there might be a bug in your runs code. I get [[0, 2], [3, 5], [5, 7], [7, 9], [10, 12], [0, 6], [6, 12], [2, 10]] for the string 110110011011 but your code gives [(0, 2), (3, 5), (5, 7), (7, 9), (10, 12), (0, 6), (2, 10)] . That is it misses out [6,12]

10:16 AM

Math question: Say I have a quadratic polynomial 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑎𝑥² + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 with 𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑐 positive integers. Then, is there a simple method to determine integer values of 𝑥 for which 𝑓(𝑥) is a perfect square?

Kernel panic: MATHHHHHHHHHHqjih7hioufawgyuhifu

@LegionMammal978 None come to mind immediately, and given that this is a Diophantine equation, it'll probably be hard to find such solutions.
Well, you could do $0 = ax^2 + bx + (c - y^2)$ and then use the quadratic formula to get $x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4a(c-y^2)}}{2a}$.

ven
1{_'#*o}w infinite loop to print #,##,###... Probably

@El'endiaStarman ...sadly, I use FF

Hmm. The radical must be a square for x to be integral. Which means that your problem boils down (mostly) to finding values of y such that $b^2 - 4a(c-y^2)$ is a square. Which is hard. :P

Okay, I've reduced my instance of the problem to finding integer 𝑥 such that (𝑥² + 4)/5 is a perfect square

11:42 AM
Ahh, okay.

(Specifically, the case where 𝑎 = 5, 𝑏 = 2, and 𝑐 = 1)

I can't immediately think of any way to find solutions other than just trying 'em all. Ask on Math.SE?

@El'endiaStarman I'll just try 'em all

@LegionMammal978 that's not that hard?
finding solutions to the diophantine equation x^2 - 5y^2 + 4 = 0

@orlp Could you give me an explicit method of finding such 𝑥 that has less time-complexity than a brute-force search?

@TùxCräftîñg thx

you are welcome ;)

@orlp The problem I have with that is the $bxy$ term; I currently have it reduced to $ax^2+bx+1=y^2\Rightarrow -ax^2-bx-y^2=1$
