you are free
and I lost the game

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Unfortunately all you can do in that situation is wash your hands of the problem and leave. Sure, you put a lot of time into building that server, but servers come and go frequently. There will be another opportunity for you to apply your skills, and hopefully next time you can recognize if the owner is going to be problematic before making the huge time investment.

@Mego That's basically my decision.

Anonymous
If the person in charge isn't willing to fix a major problem, it's time to leave. That's why it's called a dealbreaker :P

Anonymous
Call out the owner's refusal to administrate properly in a public way. If that doesn't spur some change, get out.

Anonymous
On the flip side, if you don't make noise and leave, that implies complacency.

@Mego Oh, I've made noise.

Q: Why does my iPhone 6 randomly ask me to enter my password with Touch ID enabled?

MegoThis happens every few days: I wake up in the morning, try to unlock my phone with Touch ID, and it prompts me for my password. The length and complexity of my password and my drowsiness in the morning make for an unpleasant combination. Why does this keep happening? Detailed information: I am...

Anyone here?

yes

Nope

Anyone there? -->

Where is there?

                            yes
@Mego TIL penguins have fingerprints

Anyone want to join me on the Hive? (play.hivemc.com)

Well, I need more details to properly answer the question of my location. Where is "here", and what p-value would you use to reject the null hypothesis that I am not "here"?

I'll take that as a no -.-

@HelkaHomba I can't load the page
just sits and loads

It's a minecraft server

1:20 AM
oh.
nevermind them
oO I tried to reset my password 5 hours ago, and I just got the email

xnorPareto frontier A point (x1,y1) dominates another point (x2,y2) if both x1≥x2 and y1≥y2. A set of points is a Pareto frontier if no point dominates another point. In other words, any increase in one coordinate must be met with a decrease in the other coordinate. Your task is to decide whether a...

1:36 AM
Wow. D. B. Cooper case finally closed inconclusively.
It was probably @AlexA. all along.

Someone on one of the other servers I administrate on is having a birthday.
I might've gone slightly overboard with the cake thing.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE How many servers do you administrate?

@LegionMammal978 Six.

Yeaaaah
I got notoriety on a relatively big one and people asked me to come administrate theirs.

1:46 AM
I see
@VTCAKAVSMoACE Just curious, which one?

@LegionMammal978 my.mineadventure.net
It's one of the bigger pure vanilla 1.10 MC servers.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Coming over...

I write the "plug-ins", what are essentially large command block systems.

Oh right, back in my day I used bukkit but I heard that's dead

Not much work nowadays, with no major updating since 1.9...

1:49 AM
@VTCAKAVSMoACE I don't understand. No offense, but it doesn't really look like a cake, except for the color

@NathanMerrill Every block is layered with cake

ah ook
its not one big cake, its a gazillion little ones

lol

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Is that the connection address?

1:50 AM
@LegionMammal978 Yes...?
Yeah, it is, just checked again.

@HelkaHomba Who what in the where?

I wonder if I can spoof my location for Go to my house in the US so I can play
but I'll need to make it move...

Oh Tommy Wiseau

2:11 AM
@LegionMammal978 I thought you knew about the C++ version of MC. O.o

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Got zombies on my tail, don't ping me here plz

@LegionMammal978 oh aight

2:45 AM

Wow
How did u get cake everwhere plug in?
Shameless plug if anyone wants to give me feedback.

3:28 AM
@charredgrass the game refuses to start if you have "allow mock locations" turned on, on android

Aw @Aearnus, that sucks :P looks like I'll have to physically go to the US then.

4:19 AM
will [tag:code-golf] be formatted properly in a comment?

@charredgrass It's probably worth it. There are a few not-so-nice things about the US, too, though, so it's a tough call.

@Geobits I live in the US :P

Yes, I see. Reading comprehension fail.
It's pretty fun though. I just got back from a nearby park. There were probably 3-400 people walking around the jogging path playing. On a Tuesday night. It was both incredibly strange and wonderful.

Yeah, it sounds pretty fun! I just wish I could use it now, since I'm in Hong Kong which is way more suited to walking around than my hometown of Los Angeles

I bet it would be really fun in a dense area like that. I'm in a pretty sprawly area, but the nice thing is that people congregate in public parks and such, so it seems a bit denser.

4:33 AM
@Mego @quartata @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I convinced the server owner to not be an idiot! \o/

4:48 AM
hooray!

Mathematica is insanely fun to play around with. I am yet to find a way to use it productively.

hi all
I have tried to make codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/84592/… simpler to understand

hey @Lembik

would appreciate anyone's views on whether I have succeeded
please

@charredgrass Cool! What are you doing in Hong Kong? (If you don't mind me asking)

4:58 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Internship at an ad agency
@Lembik what did you change?

Woah, that's pretty cool. Do you speek Chinese?

A little

Oooh interesting

and... why do we never get any reliable news about flight ms804 (completely OT I realize :) )

5:01 AM
looks clearer, at least at first glance

Anonymous
@VTCAKAVSMoACE Yay!

@charredgrass thanks.. I look forward to the second glance :)

My Google-fu says it's 1 pm in Hong Kong right now. Are you on TNB instead of working? :P

@Mego do you find it any clearer?
@Mego if you don't mind my asking
TNB?

The Nineteenth Byte.

5:03 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan multitasking: TNB while listening to some informational video :P

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Thanks!

brb lunch

surely not "right back"!

So... I need to parse HTML with regex really quick.

5:11 AM
@charredgrass you should be able to spoof your coords to download the game, then it should work fine i just found out

Should I worry about Cthulu summoning?

@VTCAKAVSMoACE yea lmao

@Aearnus shiiiiiiit

@VTCAKAVSMoACE i was gonna send some example regex-html-parsing nonsense i wrote a while back but i guess i had accidentally formatted my machine right after writing it
classic cthulu

5:29 AM
@Aearnus I was able to download the game - I have a US Google Play account. The map is just empty

ah, that sucks

time to hack the gps satellites to move Hong Kong to the US

how are you

5:32 AM
Hello!

@charredgrass you know hacking

it was a joke lol

ah
well you made a joke of me

Anonymous
@Lembik I do mind you asking, in fact. I never said your challenge was unclear. In fact, I have never said anything about that challenge. I would appreciate it if you would not pounce on me for challenge feedback the moment I enter the room.

how to hack: $('vulnerability').css('color') = 'red';

5:35 AM
@Mego Heard and understood

Uhuh
@Lembik bha

hey, do any of you guys have experience with stack based languages?
i'm trying to design one but i've hit a roadblock

oh cool

hmmm

(no experience with them at all)

5:40 AM
@microbuster you may have to translate "bha" for me :)

@Aearnus I know MATL a little bit.
What's your roadblock?

@Lembik i shall remove it
but i cant

oh ok :)
what did you mean to say to me?

Anonymous
@Aearnus I have a little bit of experience with Seriously and Actually

well, I can't really figure out what i'm missing github.com/Aearnus/charm

5:43 AM
@Mego Haha, A "little" bit of experience.

i'm trying to write the stdlib for it but it's really not working out in my favor
also lmao @Mego

Is it intended to be a useful language or a golfing language?

more of an experimental language
with a rich enough stdlib i could see it being useful for golfing, if i improved the parser

I'm trying to turn my language into a half stack-based language.

Anonymous
@Aearnus What do you mean?

5:46 AM
@Mego if you've seen the language Joy, i've taken heavy inspiration from that

Anonymous
No I mean what do you mean you can't figure out what you're missing?

and I'm trying to write some combinators for my language's stdlib without writing them in C++

Anonymous
Do you need a list of the essential functions for a stack-based tacit language?

but I can't quite figure out a good way to do it
no no no I'm stuck on writing the combinators that's my problem haha

Anonymous
Can your language self-interpret?

5:47 AM
yes

What do you mean combinators?

with the stackNTimes function
supposed to push N functions on to the stack but with a bare minimum of functions to work with in the first place and only one stack it's tough and broken

Anonymous
So you're going the route of writing the stdlib in the language itself

coding

I felt it'd be the best solution but i guess not lmao

Anonymous
5:49 AM
I wrote/am writing Seriously's stdlib in Python, so I'm not the best reference here :P

Anonymous
I don't want to imagine how difficult some of Seriously's commands would be to write in Seriously

Oh hey, speaking of stack-based languages, I wrote one a little while ago.
Totally different type of stack-based language.

well I imagined that it would be easier for this language because it's all weird and functional - you can push functions onto the stack and do some metaprogramming

Anonymous
Dumb idea for a programming language: a queue-based language called British. It would be just like a stack-based language, except that data and functions are interpreted in FIFO order. The command to exit the program would be brexit.
2

Anonymous
@Aearnus You can do that in Seriously, too. I just really don't want to :P

5:52 AM
I love it. Dibs on writing it?
:P

Anonymous
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Obviously I have dibs :P

Dammit. You said it like it was an open invitation...

hai

haha, that's brilliant

Anonymous
The fact that functions' return values would go at the back of the queue would make things interesting

Anonymous
5:57 AM
Making the string 'abc' out of individual characters in a stack-based lang: 'c' 'b' 'a' concat concat. Doing the same in British: 'a' 'b' 'c' concat wasteOfTime concat (wasteOfTime has the element at the front of the queue step out and go to the end)

So wasteoftime == push(pop())

Anonymous
Or 'a' 'b' concat 'c' concat, but that's less fun

Anonymous
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan enqueue(dequeue()), but yeah

Can there be a command about tea?

Anonymous
6:05 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan tea can be dup (make a copy of current element and send both to back of queue)

This language sounds like a real pain in the ass. I'm excited to see it!

Anonymous
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Spot on, chap

oh, am I not a good sir anymore?
:P
Chap is okay too.

Anonymous
I decided that chap sounded more British

anyone good with JavaScript here?

Anonymous
I am tipsy and I dislike Javascript so sure?

Conor, quill, downgoat all are.

6:35 AM
I need to know if it's better to use [..."foo"] or "foo".split('') (not for golfing)

@charredgrass yeah

Anonymous
Define better

Probably some others, but those are the ones of the top of my head.

@charredgrass [..."foo"]
that supports unicode
.split("") will split surrogates too

@Downgoat ah, thanks!

6:36 AM
np

Oh. Hello @Downgoat, I didn't know you were in here!

Anonymous
@Downgoat What why

@Mego because surrogates are multi-byte, idk what else you'd expect

user214599
Hi, guys! I'm back!

Hello @MatthewRoh!

6:36 AM
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I just came in >_>
@MatthewRoh Hello!

Anonymous
@Downgoat Sane unicode support?

user214599
c_c

@Mego no not really because "" wouldn't be splitting every "" then it would rather be splitting every "\uDC00-\uDFFF"
those are still chars and in the case you'd want to split on them then what would the behavior be?

Hello

Hello @zʏᴀʙiɴ101!

6:39 AM
I hate how everytime I try to look up stuff about Pyth, either Python related stuff or Counter-Strike related stuff comes up

@charredgrass ask in here, you'll get an answer much quicker
(usually)
i thought of brilliant solution
instead of making generators for cheddar
i will abuse JS generators :D

halp how do i create permissions on a fake fs

such a simple idea
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ wat

Anonymous
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /

6:41 AM
@Downgoat I thought that was what you already do with primitives

@Mego no you should obviously do sudo find / -delete
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ wat no

to clean useless files from linux, try sudo apt-get purge emacs
4

@charredgrass This deserves a pin

fake fs = not even a fuse, just a folder intended to be accessed as a seperate fs

@charredgrass >apt

6:44 AM
@Downgoat I mean I thought Cheddar primitives were just thin wrappers over JS primitives

@Doorknob Here are more useless files that you can clean :P

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ no not at all

@charredgrass s/linux/Debian-based distro/

@Doorknob 10/10 for working markdown :P

Not just ubuntu. Also debian.

6:45 AM
@Downgoat >implying it was intended to be markdown

oh :|
\o/ \o/ \o/ got third gold badge on SO

halp how make generator my genius workaround won't work ;_;
i need to make generators for cheddar

workaround?

7 mins ago, by Downgoat
instead of making generators for cheddar
7 mins ago, by Downgoat
i will abuse JS generators :D
can't babel can't transpile generators without stupid babel-polyfill

6:49 AM
@Downgoat wat

babel cannot transpile generators properly without using the babel-pollyfill
I'll have to roll my own ;_;
okay well brb in a long time

Anonymous
I'm not entirely sure what just happened

._.

ey' dudes and dudettes

ay @Midnightas

6:51 AM
@Midnightas hello!

@Downgoat wait, you can't just use functions?

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ waddya mean?

Anonymous
The first glass of wine is wearing off... Another!

change functions so they use array index instead of .shift (iirc), then somehow have a seperate scope for each invocation
generator scopes will have a private property index or something

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ huh?

6:55 AM
generators should work pretty similarly to functions

ik
OH SHIT
this stuff is destructive
that's not good
shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit
damn it

@Mego Great Idea™

@Downgoat ... you okay there?

no
goat is going crazy

Anonymous
@Geobits Thanks for the motivation to get the second glass of wine. If you say it's a good idea, obviously it is.

6:57 AM
To the room in general: Most useful Pokemon Go companion app you can think of in 3..2..1... go!

@Downgoat the current stuff?

@Mego I have no wine atm, but I'm thinking rum will do.

they shift the tokens
@Mego ;_;

6:57 AM
@Mego Let me clarify: An app I can write to ride this wave.

@Downgoat for loops shift the tokens? D:

yeah
i am going crazy rn sorry. gimme a sec to calm down

@Geobits Maybe some useful calculators, and a mini-wiki/info

Anonymous
@Geobits Something that uses GPS and Google Maps to send you push notifications when rare Pokemon are within a certain (user-configurable) radius of your location, submitted by other users. Like Waze but for Gyrados.

does node.js not have the ... syntax for iterators?

6:59 AM
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ I was thinking about that. I've got the apk, am going to try to reverse in the morning to see how much useful data they store in the app vs the servers.
@Mego Hmm

@charredgrass It does, but @Downgoat is intending it for ES5 browsers as well, so he uses the Babel transpiler
