@Dennis do you happen to have a list of all Jelly built-ins?

At this point I just want to delete my answer rather than updating it 20 times.

@quartata also, the new update cleared my previous comp rank.

Actually forcing me to play on community servers lead to one of the most enjoyable games of TF2 I've had in at least a year

@Downgoat Quicks and Atoms

thanks, totally not related to cheddar stdlib

quick J question: how do I replace a column with a list? E.g.:
2 3 2
3 2 3
2 3 2

with 3 4 5

3 3 2
4 2 3
5 3 2

> it is not worth my time to keep updating this answer.
@DrGreenEggsandIronMan lol

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ((]`_1:@.(i&=))"0 i.#q) {"1 q ,. l something like that

12:12 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Looks like (3 4 5) (<a:;0)} A is the recommended way. How lengthy.

oops
my hack is weird
thanks ^_^

You might as well just |.(3 4 5)0}|.A
Transpose, amend first, transpose.

isn't |: transpoe?
Also, what if I wanted the index to be a list, and for the result to be a table of arrays? E.g., for i.2 and A =: i. 3 3, have something like
3 1 2
4 4 5
5 7 8

0 3 2
3 4 5
6 5 8

0 1 3
3 4 4
6 7 5

Err, |:.

12:17 AM
@mınxomaτ wtaf

I have no idea about the last thing. My guess is there’s a very obvious lengthy way to do it and a really weird short way.

@mınxomaτ why

Remind me of placeboing's Breaking Bad remixes.

@Lynn okay, thanks! I think I'll just use a for loop in an explicit verb

@Sherlock9 Huh, looks like no one answered your question. C9, short for Cloud 9, is an online IDE for a bunch of languages, and you can collaborate with other people on the same stuff. Kinda like Google Docs for code.

12:22 AM
placeboing is pure gold.

(3 :'|:3 4 5 y}|:A')"0 i.3

o_o you are magic
thanks a lot ! :D

@mınxomaτ Not much compares to the brilliance of cyriak, though.

@Lynn this is equivalent to 3 4 5 (4 :'|:x }y|:A')"_ 0 i. 3, right?

@Doorknob I raise you an0nymooose.

12:28 AM
(3 4 5) (4 :'|:x y}|:A')"0 1 0 i.3

Q: Is short code mandatory in a code golf submission?

Rohan JhunjhunwalaIf there is a code golf competition are you allowed to submit a submission that is clearly not going to win? I.E thousands of bytes? @zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Wow, 10 degrees of latitude is enough to make the sun rise about 1.5 hours later.

Huh, really? I used to get sunrise around 4:30 in Tokyo during the summer, and it's only at 35°.

@Doorknob I wrote because I remembered you saying it. :P I have no idea myself how golfy Rust really is...

Do we have ROT-13?
Do we have One Time Pad?
We probably do have both.

1:08 AM
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 We certainly have a double ROT-13 challenge.

@El'endiaStarman It's basically a cat one, because ROT-13 x 2 returns exactly the same result.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Yep!

Pfft, in some alphabets.

Do we have single ROT-13? :/

Neat. I somehow got logged out, and clicking log in gives me a 403.

OK, logging back in through chat fixed it. Weird though.

Is it better for a sandbox challenge to have all/many submissions in one game?
KOTH
i meant
why do my fingers betray me?

2:17 AM
I think they meant s/sandbox challenge/KOTH/.

Is it better for a KOTH to have all submission battle at once, or many 1v1 matches?

It depends.
Koth idea: @El'endiaStarman you do have your QFTASM, don't you?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Err, yes? How could that be a KotH?

What if we combined Core Wars and QFTASM?
Two programs are located in the same address space.
Executed at the same time, they battle to delete each other's process.
Or flag. Or flags.
@El'endiaStarman We can combine Core Wars and QFTASM.

@DestructibleWatermelon Like zyabin said, it depends on the specific game/challenge. My Spacewar! KotH was 1v1, and the Battlebots KotH was all submissions at once, although separated into two teams.
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 QFTASM code can't modify itself.

2:27 AM
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 OOC that sounds very gruesome :P

@El'endiaStarman o_o Oh, right.

Yeah, it's meant to be stored in ROM - read-only memory.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Quest For Tetris Assembly.

2:28 AM
The sample program there finds primes by trial division (implemented by repeated subtraction).

@El'endiaStarman woah wat

@Downgoat Quest for Tetris Assembly, dat. See the included directions there.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 so you made assembly in GoL?

@Downgoat I didn't. I part the quest some time ago.
There should be a form of input/output for QFTASM.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 There is.
@Downgoat Yes, it's "assembly in GoL", if you don't mind the multiple layers of abstraction in between.

2:34 AM
@El'endiaStarman Input with MLZ -1 IN OUT, output with the QFTASM IDE's address space monitor?

@El'endiaStarman o_o woah. so you made a CPU and RAM and all?

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 For the QFTASM interpreter, there's the direct-write-to-RAM for input, and RAM display for "output". In circuitry, we'll have some specialized components for those. Exact operation/implementation TBD.

This... this is the most beautiful J code I've ever written (snippet): r2 =: not a prime and not a panda

> and not a panda
k

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ How does it work?

2:37 AM
@Downgoat Not quite. We don't yet have a circuit simulator (both Conor and Mego started working on simulators, then got sick and couldn't/didn't continue). Once we do, then the CPU can be built. We already have circuit designs for RAM, ROM, and ALU operations.

   r2 =: not a prime and not a panda
   r2
not@prime and not@panda
   r2 f.
-.@(1&p:) *. -.@(((1+i.9) -: /:~)@(10 #.^:_1 ])@(] #.~ 10 ^ [: >. 10 ^. ]))

The circuit simulator is our last major obstacle to implementing Tetris in GoL. PhiNotPi wrote a compiler so we can write programs in a higher-level language (Cogol) that gets compiled to QFTASM.

btw did you get the github request?
I think I set it to you for the circuit sim code

@El'endiaStarman well a circuit simulator sounds like a very large task. how is it planned to work?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Hmm, looks like I didn't. I'm having a hard time finding your circuit sim repo on GitHub too.

2:42 AM
uh oh
it very well may be the case that I forgot to post it ._.

@Downgoat All our components fit into rectangular tiles, so we just have to simulate input and output for each tile, including the proper delay, and simulate the connections between tiles.

@El'endiaStarman here you say "just" but here you say "major obstacle"? :P
@Quill are you familiar with node's readline?

@Downgoat Haha. :P Really though, it's the last missing link in the abstraction chain. GoL -> VarLife (using OTCA metapixels) -> wires and circuit components -> CPU/RAM/ROM -> QFTASM -> Cogol -> Tetris.

@orlp o_O you really like that

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

2:47 AM
@El'endiaStarman what should I call it?

@Downgoat kinda sorta

user214599
I got more than 250 reps in 2 days. Does that make sense?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ... lenny is not always an inappropriate reference ಠ_ಠ

@MatthewRoh Depends on how much weight you're lifting.

2:48 AM
@Downgoat it was rn

ಠ_ಠ

user214599
@El'endiaStarman What?

@Quill do you know how to make it so shitf+enter does literal newline rather than enter?

@MatthewRoh Like, each time you lift a weight in a set is a rep. 250 reps in 2 days is reasonable if you're lifting a 1-pound weight or something, but 100 pounds per rep? No way.

user214599
Eww.

2:49 AM
@Downgoat no idea
Sorry :(

I think he means reputation >_>

@Quill same ;_; can't find anything on the internets

@El'endiaStarman I know that the legendary tag involves getting a ton of rep, but I cant do that :(

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Um, I dunno. Didn't we come up with a name for it in the QFT chat?

You can call it VarLife Circuits or something.

My own circuit CA has still to use some love. @_@

2:52 AM
@El'endiaStarman Then it has to be generalized.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 I suppose, yeah. Maybe QFT Circuits would be a better name.

@Downgoat some of the repls just don't evaluate the line if it's inside a scope

@El'endiaStarman got it

Try writing some kind of code inside an if block or for loop in node's repl

@Quill idk if that's easily possible with Cheddar though. I'd have to catch a specific error most probably and that'll be difficult
or I could check if the character is { but what if it's in a comment

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Nope, you will have to generalize that based on the name.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 ????

Maybe rename it "QFT Circuits"?

What is current policy on asking for moderator attention? Is it considered wrong?

6 mins ago, by El'endia Starman
You can call it VarLife Circuits or something.

2:58 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yeah, VarLife is a general simulation for Life-like rules, but the circuit simulator is specifically for circuits built with four specific Life-like rules.

5 mins ago, by zʏᴀʙiɴ101
@El'endiaStarman Then it has to be generalized.
5 mins ago, by El'endia Starman
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 I suppose, yeah. Maybe QFT Circuits would be a better name.

@RohanJhunjhunwala Not at all. What's the issue?

I am looking for a mod to take a look at a question of mine which has been put on hold. I feel like it has been made significantly clearer by recent edits and would make a good fit for this sight. We have 4 reopen votes I am just looking for a fifth.

@RohanJhunjhunwala Oh, you don't need a mod for that fifth reopen vote.

Yeah, just someone at 3000 rep
Yes Doorknob

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ: Is your circuit sim code just the graphical component?
I think @Mego's circuit sim is just the simulation component.

mostly. I was and still am confused about how to do internal.
Actually, it's all just graphical.
>_>

The reason why I was looking for a moderator, was that s/he could help me edit the question to a point where it is more suitable, if the question needed more work

Okay. I may end up writing glue code between yours and Mego's. Or I might just do the simulation component with your graphical code.

3:04 AM
that sounds okay

@RohanJhunjhunwala most users can help with that even

your question seems on topic, but I can't say how well received it will be. A lot of people here don't quite like quines anymore, as they tend to be overused. Also, lots of "extend your language" type challenges are not well received, generally because they tend to be broad

Ok, Thanks.
We did try to tighten it down, and I had fun writing my self answer.
So I guess thats good enough

Well, I practice by making lots of esolangs.

I am not a big fan of Esolangs.
I want to write a context free grammar

@RohanJhunjhunwala idk how you learn best, but first step is to understand and be very familiar regular expressions. Then just read some basic articles on common terminology used in the formal grammar world, read the wikipedia page and you should be proficient

I should probably go to bed now. G'night y'all!
