I don't know about you but that doesn't sound very appealing to me
I'm not sure why they couldn't have just brought back the old POSIX-Win32 layer they had back in Windows NT

Hey as long as it get's the job done right?

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan but why not get the job done the right way

Options. I appreciate that I can run stuff quickly in bash or startup a VM.
Obviously a real VM is better, and less buggy, but it's nice to quickly test stuff without having to boot up a VM.

different strokes for weirdos different folks

9:05 PM
@MartinEnder: I found another typo: favourite.

lol
Are there any vimscript experts in here?

I woke up to five pages of slack notifications from @Upgoat ;-;

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I'm OK at it

I'm running into a weird scope error.

9:09 PM
@quartata D:
@Upgoat pls kill quartata

How do I define a variable inside an if block, and access it outside of the if block?

@Quill ikr
@El'endiaStarman hahaha
@Upgoat no

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan I think you can do global variables with let g:var
Been a while. Lemme check.
54
A: VIM : What is the difference between let g: , let b: , etc

XymostechSee :help internal-variables It lists the following types: (nothing) In a function: local to a function; otherwise: global buffer-variable b: Local to the current buffer. window-variable w: Local to the current window. ...

That's got a helpful table

@MartinEnder: Okay, actual typo: in the 1001 Equality section, you have a stray backtick when trying to say (A, B) = (0, 0).

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ No seriously, it's garbage. Objectively so.

9:12 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ can't, I'm at grocery store

@El'endiaStarman btw, there was an actual typo in the "favourite" sentence :P

@quartata what's phlog?

Also in that section, you have (~ in the code and )~ in the explanation.

because it's executed right-to-left, I think?

@MartinEnder Haha, wow, I didn't even notice.

9:13 PM
ah no you're right

I was about to incredulously ask you if Hexagony flipped ( and ) depending on the direction the IP is traveling. :P

no I just didn't read properly and assumed it's one of the parts where the code has (~ and the explanation ~( ;)

@Maltysen TF2 thing

9:25 PM
@MartinEnder Read the whole thing. Here, have your very well-deserved +1. :D

@El'endiaStarman Wow, thank you for actually reading all of it :)

I read it all too. I just love how even "trivial" challenges can be made so interesting

@Quill what is a page of notifications

@Upgoat like this

@Quill why does it say -114 r u hackr

9:38 PM
@Maltysen a tf2 weapon (flamethrower) that quartata doesn't like and me and upgoat do like.

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I thought you said you didn't have it
Anyways I'll demonstrate to you why it's garbage later
suffice to say airblast is the most important thing about pyro in every way imaginable and you can't airblast with the phlog

@quartata [citation-needed]

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan Yes, and more so.

@Upgoat that's my cell phone service, you can do some weird thing that uses Apple's phone diagnostics to turn on your actual signal instead of the bars

@quartata I've tried it before, just don't own it.

@Quill 10/10 must try

slightly unrelated but basically the same ideas
it's by b4nny so if you don't trust his word then you won't trust anyone's word

@quartata ...youtube is not objective
I don't care if it's b4nny.

speaking of, when I went to go into the Apple Store the other day to get my Macbook fixed, they booted it to a special inhouse diagnostics software

Actually it's a very well thought out argument and b4nny is one of the greatest tf2 players of all time so

9:41 PM
yeah, it's cool

said software had those black and grey menu bars from early Macs (like Macintosh IIGS age)

@quartata 1. Okay. 2. yeah, i know who he is

You can skip the later part since it's about the Degreaser and Flamethrower balance

Suffice to say the important part is "in today's meta the Pyro airblasts that's it"
ergo phlog is shit

9:46 PM
> b4nny are you trying to convince everybody you are a f2p
> stfu dude
hahaha

@quartata phlog + mannmelter

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ overrated combo

not that bad

Sure it gives back the "extinguish people" part of airblast but that's a very small part of airblast

really? as pyro I only usually airblast for people when there's an ubered medic pair
*enemy people

Q: Decimal to hexadecimal conversion

SamSiGiven a decimal number convert it to the corresponding Hexadecimal number in as minimum bytes as possible. Ex. INPUT: 15 OUTPUT: F Minimum bytes in all the languages are welcome :)

so I was thinking about my esolang idea, and I came to something that's kinda unrelated, but IMO much better: you start of with a tape of positive integer, decimal<e-3 or something pairs
then, for each pair, newton's method is run
and at each step, the 4 lsbs or something are used to execute a command on a secondary stack
however, at least one of the inputs for each command will not come from the stack, but from the left over values of the sqrts left on the tape
@MartinEnder ^

sorry, I get an involuntary twitch in my left eyelid when I have to think about floating point maths.

@MartinEnder everything will be done in rational representations

does "4 lsbs" make sense in that context?

@MartinEnder hmmm
i meant like representing it in base 2 and getting last 4 decimals
that works, right?

10:12 PM
base-2/decimals? do you mean digits/bits? still, a rational doesn't necessarily have last digits.

@MartinEnder That just inspired this "shower thought": the last digit of the (infinite) decimal representation of 1/3 is a 3.

@El'endiaStarman what about rationals with decimal period greater than 1 though?

There is such a last digit...in an appropriate base...

10:38 PM
@El'endiaStarman I wouldn't call that mathematically rigorous, though.
The last digit could be a 7 and it would still equal 1/3.

No, it's not at all. "last" when applied to an infinite sequence is meaningless.
That's why I called it a "shower thought".
It's kinda like how an infinite sequence of 1s diverges because it doesn't converge.

I had a pretty epic dream last night. By "epic" I mean "extraordinarily violent."

I literally had a dream last night that was just a 3-minute Brawl match
I swear, sometimes my dreams are so surreal and weird and sometimes they're so literal...

I am now trying to remember what video game inspired a portion of one of my dreams last night. Mayyybe Minecraft.
I should resume recording dreams. That was fun when I did it several years ago.

Also had a weird dream a couple weeks back that involved a pizza joint. When I woke up I realized that the entire pizza joint was modeled after the B Bombsite on de_rush

10:47 PM
Okay, dream story time: I was semi-conscious on an operating table, when I suddenly realized I was being scammed. I (somehow) escaped, and went around the building rallying support for my revenge, which led to a giant shootout and us beating the surgeon to death with lead pipes.

Like, it didn't look the same but the geometry was exactly the same

I once modeled a map for Halo: Custom Edition whose centerpiece was inspired by a dream I had.
Also involved being chased by Draco Malfoy on flying paddle-boards (the little pieces of foam that you lie on with your stomach in the water to help you float).

I had a dream last night that a dragon and goat kept pinging me.... oh wait

last night I had a dream where there were sparks falling from the sky as rain and people jumped through them and died

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ oh, those sparks sound like Python programs
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ @Quill @EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ @DrGreenEggsandIronMan I made big changes to Cheddar recently in the develop/ branch. Can you test assignment and accessing before I prep a release? :3

okay
not rn though, playing tf2

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ok, i might play tf2 too soon

:D
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ o_O

11:11 PM
ono wat if computer blows up

my wifi blew up :P

:/ it's says ~25 minutes
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ waatttttt how?!?

idk
not literally

oh
I thought you meant like router blew up. I think that happend to dennis once

11:13 PM
o_O

Stupid thunderstorm. My modem just blew up.

^
Jan 1 at 1:36, by Dennis
@RikerW Sparks and explosion sounds came out of it. What do you think? :P

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ i think tin cans and hay are tasty
What should be the error message for when you try to access a property of something that you can't access a property of
e.g. nil.foo

@Upgoat ll
@Upgoat "WTFAreYouThinkingError"?

wat

11:21 PM
"YouDidn'tDefineThatYetIdiotError"

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ too vulgar

"YouDidn'tDefineThatYetError"

Not enough big words

@Upgoat Python does AttributeError, IIRC.

yeah, because spaces are too costly in todays computers

11:22 PM
>>> class foo: pass

>>> foo.x
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<pyshell#16>", line 1, in <module>
    foo.x
AttributeError: type object 'foo' has no attribute 'x'

>_> apparently doing var var := 4 and then print var + 1 in Cheddar actually works
I didn't know my language was so compliant :3

Does that break later usages of var to define variables?

no
idk if I should keep it or disallow it
i mean if it errors OK, but if it doesn't OK

I'm not sure whether to be bummed or satisfied.

@DrGreenEggsandIronMan 13/10 this is my motto

11:27 PM
@Upgoat keep if no bugs

Don't keep :/

Keep it, but introduce an incredibly subtle bug to punish those who use it

"Everything works fine, but all digits become 3"

Or possibly even more subtle... :P

11:31 PM
It's like you're retreating back to the early days of programming where stuff like IF IF THEN THEN ELSE ELSE worked

@trichoplax "incredibly subtle" is at odds with "punish [everyone]".

@El'endiaStarman Yeah, I guess punishing an innocent end user 3 years later is a bit harsh...

For instance, you could make it fail when run the second time at 3:14 PM on the second Tuesday of the month, but very few people would ever encounter it.

@El'endiaStarman lol

@Upgoat Sure, but probably not tonight.
@El'endiaStarman 3:14 PM on the second Tuesday of the month. Is that an imgur reference?
