One of Adam Grant's articles linked in the WBW post had a link to HEXACO, which is a personality test that's far better-supported by science and research. Just took it, and I'm in the 90th percentile in Honesty-Humility, 10th percentile in Emotionality, close to but just below the median on eXtraversion, high in Agreebleness, a little low in Conscientiousness, and somewhat high in Openness to Experience.

@El'endiaStarman You mean they could have named it OX ACHE or AX ECHO and they went with HEXACO instead? I can't see how I could possibly take the results seriously.

Well, HEXA ~= 6...

Stop using logic. This isn't about that :P

"Stop using. This isn't about that.:P" ftfy

12:18 AM
O_o I think my case fan is seizing up. Started making a clattery noise so I shut it down. This sucks.

Halp, wat is shortest way in bash to loop through array of files and output name of first file that exists

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ >_> oneboxer

@Quill made a oneboxer, it does commit strip also.

@El'endiaStarman Wow, the querystring after you take the test is really long

12:22 AM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ but I don't have it.

Then I'll be alienating those who don't have it.
2

...
that didn't stop the other userscripts?

It only effects people on a personal level.

Like chatjax

@El'endiaStarman huh, interesting

Indeed.

damnit @CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ, AND is really hard in NTFJ

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ |:|

12:57 AM
Is assuming a specific file name allowed?
As a loophole.

its but okay
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ how can I add 2 numbers in NTFJ?

hahaha good luck

damnit
ಠ_ಠ

1:06 AM
For the mini challenge can I require numbers be with in the number range of 2 bits?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ NAND is a universal logic gate
so AND can be built from NAND

yeah
I know.
But still annoying as fuck.

So it is just |:|

oops, ninja'd

1:08 AM
but adder is more than and

sure

@LeakyNun oh yeah I got AND, I need full adder.
It's possible, but anonying.

it may not be actually possible

Idk if NTFJ is TC

1:09 AM
Woo! personality

Thanks, just saw the one leaky posted

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ How does it decide whether a # is a byte or a bit?

if it's not a bit, it's a byte

it is definitely possible with |:@{#~
the key is the @

1:12 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Why is there a TRUE? 0 Nand 0 is 1 ;)

@HelkaHomba yes, I mention that in the minimization step.

@Quill idea: make a bot that skims this list: gen.xyz/cnox for domains that were registered very early in all three of .com .net and .org

What's the math word for the set of numbers the numbers in another set can sum to?
e.g. taking two numbers from {1, 2, 3} can sum to {2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

{x| \exists y \in Z: sum(y) = x}
\in -> \subset

I mean a specific word for that kind of thing

1:22 AM
sumorials :p (making it up)

like powerset
maybe there isn't one

set of sum of powerset
the powerset-sums

better :)

Subset sums?
I know that if the latter set doesn't have any members in common with the former, then the former is called "sum-free".

1:24 AM
oh, sumset
In additive combinatorics, the sumset (also called the Minkowski sum) of two subsets A and B of an abelian group G (written additively) is defined to be the set of all sums of an element from A with an element from B. That is, A + B = { a + b : a ∈ A , b ∈ B } . {\displaystyle A+B=\{a+b:a\in A,b\in B\}.} The n-fold iterated sumset of A is n A = A + ⋯ ...

No
That's an element form A + an element from B

ah, right

There's no reason that A and B can't be the same thing.

could be A+A for two elements only

@El'endiaStarman Not exactly what @HelkaHomba is looking for though

1:26 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ How many languages have you created?
Also, is there a chatroom for ntfj?

nope
@LeakyNun oodles.
I think I've made the most at ppcg (correct me if I'm wrong)
There's a few on my homepage

@HelkaHomba I'm sad that I missed the myers Briggs convo. Guess mine?

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ Well ok. INTJ

Geah? Huh? That's not myers Briggs.

Your avatar screams GEAH

1:34 AM
@HelkaHomba Guess mine? (also how do you even guess)

Oh lol, it took me too long to understand what that stands for.

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ The kind of people that frequent this place are more likely to fit into certain personality types (with regards to the MBTI, anyway).

@HelkaHomba 50% right. ENTP, although I think I'm becoming more introverted.

50% = equally good as random

@El'endiaStarman and what do you think that is?

1:36 AM
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ err, ESTJ (tbh I'm no expert and not putting much real thought into these :p)

@HelkaHomba INTP, I'm pretty sure

@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ I shared a link to a Wait But Why post where a survey of the MBTI results of WBW readers was analyzed earlier.
2 hours ago, by El'endia Starman
This is really interesting: http://waitbutwhy.com/2016/06/myers-briggs-wbw-vs-us.html

@El'endiaStarman oh interesting. I love WBW. Haven't read it in a while though.

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ Must be considering your username: "They usually have complex characters"

2u4u.xyz 2go2.xyz 25th.xyz 13pt.xyz 3-16.xyz 3gpp.xyz 6ave.xyz abs1.xyz acu1.xyz as-i.xyz cg86.xyz ch13.xyz
^ just some skimming of 4-character domains

1:46 AM
Good Morning!

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ it should be, NAND gates can emulate most things iirc.
Have to go to a play (left for dinner briefly), so probably g'night!

@El'endiaStarman We can do that here

I did a Myers Briggs a long time ago and got an E (but barely) NTP
I suspect I'm somewhere between introvert and extrovert

Yeah, I remember being a mix of four different types (since I was almost exactly neutral in two different traits).
I picked INTP anyway, since I'm fairly sure that's the most accurate.
@quartata Yeah, most people are ambiverts.

is 110% INTP

1:57 AM
@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ huh?

I would not be surprised if most people here are INTP

Meaning that INTP page you linked to is pretty much exactly accurate for me

ah, thought you were asking a question

oh whoops
Probably should stop using /me for SE chat because it looks really weird

2:03 AM
Theres a userscript that supports /me

I have the same personality as Hermione and George Washington :3

So I'm in at the Apple Store to get my Mac fixed, and the attendant had to book me a time, and when she did, she recorded the colour of my clothes o_O

@Quill well...
The Mackintosh or raincoat (abbreviated as mac or mack) is a form of waterproof raincoat, first sold in 1824, made out of rubberised fabric. The Mackintosh is named after its Scottish inventor Charles Macintosh, though many writers add a letter k (this variant spelling "Mackintosh" is now standard ). Although the Mackintosh style of coat has become generic, a genuine Mackintosh coat should be made from rubberised or rubber laminated material. == History == It has been claimed that the fabric was invented by the surgeon James Syme but then copied and patented by Charles Macintosh; Symes' method...
Maybe something was misunderstood?

@Quill I'm skimming a lot of 4-letter domains whose .com versions were registered in the 1990's.

@PhiNotPi for fun, or?

2:09 AM
@Quill Yeah, I'm using it

@PhiNotPi I'd be really interested to see a few if you wanna gist it later

Is xkcd.xyz available? :P

@quartata no
@HelkaHomba shrug
they're still 2 cents each

Hey, who's the other ENTP in here?

I put that. I'm kinda close between INTP and ENTP

2:18 AM
@DrGreenEggsandHamDJ Who's the third one?

@PhiNotPi haha, same here. I'm definitely in the E side, but I'm becoming more introverted.
I'm definitely a strong nt though.

> I'm definitely a strong nut though.
ftfy

That reminds me of a joke - Q: What causes the most car accidents? A: The nut behind the wheel.

That's depressing, not funny.

2:30 AM
@HelkaHomba I've taken tests like that several times, and it's interesting to see how the results change over time. Right now I think I'm I(N~S)TJ.

That's one of the main criticisms of the MBTI, in fact. It's not very reliable.

^ I'm usually I[NS]TJ but for some reason I just got INFP.
(I don't actually agree :p)

Oh, touché. :P

Just now I got ISFJ (with barely F) but I normally test as ISTJ so that's what I consider mine
Which 3 people here are the "Debaters"?
Oh, ninjad kinda :|

@PhiNotPi code golf for you, lol

For only $7.18 I can register all of them, but then I might be legitimately throwing money away.

Make them all rickrolls
A worthy cause

@PhiNotPi you could go for a Guinness world record for most domains owned

on a more serious note, I don't actually think I'm going to be able to sell any of them

3:04 AM
Anyone know a (pie) chart making webpage where the url contains all the chart data?
like pie.com/chart/50%-20%-30%

@HelkaHomba No, and I don't think anyone would have made one either
Not very many people want a simple pie chart - most want customization

Well there could be other arguments. I'd bet it's been done

I'd hope there'd at least be some labels in the url if so.

nevermind
oh gee

:/

3:11 AM
@HelkaHomba Use a SVG
Then it's just some circles + text + lines
@HelkaHomba Are shortened permalinks okay?

It's not crucial. I can just copy the plain images

Looks like the $0.02 sale is over, it's $0.22 now
I didn't, and won't, buy any of my list.

1 hour later…
4:28 AM
Hi, who knows C?

It's dead in here :(
And I just served pie

Q: Has My Pie Been Bisected?

Helka HombaWrite a program or function that takes in a nonempty list of positive integers. You may assume it is input in a reasonable convenient format such as "1 2 3 4" or [1, 2, 3, 4]. The numbers in the input list represent the slices of a full pie chart where each slice size is proportional to its corr...

@JesterTran Me (kinda)

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ I'm going to send code for fscanf() anomaly
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

int main( void ) {
  int i = 0;
  char letter[7];
  char *tmp[1];

  FILE *fp = fopen("abc", "r");

  while (fscanf(fp, "%s", letter) == 1) {
    printf("\nBegin print!\n");
    // changing tmp pointer only once!
    if (i == 0) {
      printf("check\n");
      tmp[i] = letter;
    }
    // temp pointer automatically changes each iteration
    printf("tmp = %s\n", tmp[0]);
    i++;
  }
  return 0;
}
Contents of file "abc":
 a b c
 defg
Output:
Begin print!
check
tmp = a

Begin print!
tmp = b

Begin print!
tmp = c

Begin print!
tmp = defg

4:41 AM
Maybe you meant %c, not %s?

"tmp" is an array of strings
for clarification: do you know why "tmp[0]" changes itself each time fscanf() succeeds?

I should've commented my code a bit more haha

oh wait
it doesn't change
you just always assign to letter in your fscanf

yeah, it shouldn't

4:48 AM
and C strings are mutable, meaning new instances aren't created unless you manually do it, so it just overwrites every time
@JesterTran It doesn't change, the contents change

why is the contents of "tmp[0]" changed to "letter" each time?

@JesterTran It isn't

I'm no boxing fan but that's sad news :(

tmp[0] is a number pointing to letter, which is a number pointing the location of the string

@HelkaHomba :'(

4:53 AM
ugh JS is so bad for golfing

@MᴀʀsUʟᴛᴏʀ I'm not following this, could you please explain it again?

Chat mini-challenge: given positive integers a b c, if b is inside the range [a...c], output b. Else, output the corresponding boundary

Basically, in C, strings and arrays are pointers, which are basically references/location numbers

If you assign a pointer to another, all it's doing is copying the location

4:55 AM
OH
how do you combat the problem I'm having?

@JesterTran Use strcpy

thanks, I'll give it a try

But first set the pointer (dest) to malloc(7)
@HelkaHomba Why is 3 3 falsy?

see edit
just a typo

Oh, I didnot get the edit

5:00 AM
thank you so much, M.U!
@LeakyNun What does corresponding boundary mean?

the closest b is to of a or c

@HelkaHomba oh right

I'm "unparking" my domains because it looks like sedo's parking pages often redirect to other ads. I'm gonna see if I can make my own pages for them, since I have no interest in ad revenue.

5:16 AM
@JesterTran in golflangs it could be done in two commands. in regular langs maybe more

@LeakyNun Interpreter seems to be back up.

5:38 AM
@Dennis Never mind, I deleted it anyway. Please continue the answer combo.

Huh, I think this is the first time I got a downvote on an answer that doesn't use an esolang.
@LeakyNun Nah, I'm done for today. Sorry to see that you deleted your answer. I didn't see it before posting mine.

6:04 AM
@Dennis do you think my J answer on the bitswap can be golfed?

@LeakyNun clamp (in a few languages, e.g. Julia)

@LeakyNun sorted([a,b,c])[1]
a.k.a. median

@LeakyNun ^:_1 can become inv.

6:24 AM
@Dennis Doesn't that cost the same amount of bytes?
@xnor nice!
@Sp3000 wow, there even is 1-command solution!
@Dennis It doesn't work.

Are you sure?
   f=:4#.0 2 1 3{~4#.inv]
   f 47525
30298

6:40 AM
@Dennis
   f=:4#.0 2 1 3{~4#.inv]
|index error
|   f=:4#.0 2 1 3    {~4#.inv]
> #.inv is the same as #.^:_1 .

inv is a:

- Standard Library word(s) residing in the 'z'-locale.
- Defined in the factory script stdlib.ijs.
- View definition(s) by entering in the J session: open'stdlib'

Which J interpreter are you using?
If it's J.js, don't.

I'm using tryj.tk

That's J.js.

well...

It works with the official interpreter.

6:48 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ -:/:~
@Dennis Any online interpreter in which inv works?

Not that I know of.

@Dennis What about the J solution in the new challenge? Can it be golfed?

7:04 AM
Are you sure (-/~+/\) does what you say it does? I think -/~ is dyadic here.

oh really...
How would I fix it?

[:+/[:+/+/=+:@-/~@(+/\) should work.

Thanks, edited accordingly

@LeakyNun +/e.[:,/2*+/\-/+/\ should work.

thanks

7:17 AM
@quartata I do play overwatch and my name is Poke
maybe you saw me :]

@Dennis Thanks, edited

7:40 AM
@Pokémon: Gotta catch'em all!

@wizzwizz4 - Pokemon can give you a gambling addiction.

@mIllIbyte Really?
I've almost caught all 65536. I just need to catch a few more glitch Pokémon, avoid the ZZAZZ, and hack in a few trainers.

@mIllIbyte Pokémon is a strategy game. Gambling is often a chance game. When gambling, often there is no skill involved. With Pokémon, it's possible to catch'em all without losing all your money.

Do you play the video games or the TCG?

7:51 AM
@mIllIbyte The TCG isn't Pokémon. It's "The Pokémon Trading Card Game".

There's a hack to catch all 65536 at once. ~0U+1 where int is 2 bytes.
I agree that the video game is not addictive.
But when I was in school and Pokemon came out, kids would frequently cry over damaged cards, over opening a booster pack with no shiny card inside etc.

@Dennis Can you pull Actually?

8:37 AM
@Mego Hey Mego, could you add a hash example where leading zeroes matter?

def fast_pow(int b, int n):
    if n<0: return 0
    if n==0: return 1
    if n==1: return b
    temp = fast_pow(b,n<<2)
    return temp*temp*[1,n][n%2]

Anonymous
@Sp3000 What do you mean?

e.g. if the resulting hash starts with a zero
(or more generally, any of the registers, after converting to hex)

1234 -> 03ac674216f3e15c761ee1a5e255f067953623c8b388b4459e13f978d7c846f4

Anonymous
Done (thanks @LeakyNun for the quick test case!)

8:44 AM
Hmm probably also need an example where one of the registers other than the first one is the one with a leading zero

@Mego Could you do it without recursion?

(basically I'm trying to point out the reference implementation doesn't pad properly)

Anonymous
@LeakyNun Do what?

(you probably want 08x)

@Mego this

Anonymous
8:45 AM
@Sp3000 The last line in the reference implementation is print(''.join('{:08x}'.format(H) for H in h))

*golfed reference implementation

Anonymous
Oh that one

Anonymous
Fixed it :)

I think I borked it while trying to port it to Python 2 so we could use py2 hacks (like backticks for repr and the print statement)

Am golfing it in Py 2 atm, it's painful :(
Some core parts aren't very golfable
