@Liam I see you timed my Python answer in a 100-fold loop. Could my C answer get the same love, maybe even with 1000 iterations? I made a two non-trivial improve since the last official score. It should be a lot faster now.

yessir
I should be able to do it within the hour

No hurry. Thanks!

ZgarbRobot on a ladder code-golf counting Background I have a ladder leaning on a wall, and a remote-controlled robot that can climb it. I can send three different commands to the robot: UP: the robot takes one step upwards. If it was on the highest step, it trips over, falls down and explodes....

Q: Can't find clit

j0hI have some lit files I want to convert from mircrosoft reader files to something my other devices can read. My friend says I should have clit, in $ which clit /usr/bin/clit but I cannot find it. I tried locate clit but the results are unrelated. So then I tried sudo apt-get install clit but ...

which clit
The fact that this is a valid command on his computer is preposterous.

That might be a better question for Biology.SE

8:16 PM
@mınxomaτ I think it's only on half

@MartinBüttner Forks would be useful, too. I also would like a way to negate the Transliterate mode. Say I wanted to translate everything but two classes. "T`[^a-f][^0-9]`"

randomra mentioned this, but I feel like class negation doesn't make as much sense in T-mode... which character remain? all Unicode?
maybe range-subtraction would be an option

Yeah... range/set subtraction would also work.
But replace mode will do this fine for now.

@Dennis retimed it.
0.06 seconds on my computer
hilarious

The improvement was even more significant on your machine.

8:22 PM
yeah pretty huge
I didn't really expect it to make such a big difference.
Something to keep in mind for future challenges

Peak memory consumption is 6.7 MiB now.

is there a particular resource you used to implement it?
I kind of want to see if a rust entry using the same algorithm will come close (If I can figure out how to rust long enough to make it)

@MartinBüttner what would be a great feature is to match only length in backreference (e.g. (abc)\L1 would match abcdef), do you still use the .Net regex execution r your own?

@Liam I used the first Google hit, which was the Wikipedia page of the prime-counting function.

I'm using plain .NET regex and I'm not going to write a new regex engine any time soon ;)

8:26 PM
In mathematics, the prime-counting function is the function counting the number of prime numbers less than or equal to some real number x. It is denoted by (unrelated to the number π). == History == Of great interest in number theory is the growth rate of the prime-counting function. It was conjectured in the end of the 18th century by Gauss and by Legendre to be approximately in the sense that This statement is the prime number theorem. An equivalent statement is where li is the logarithmic integral function. The prime number theorem was first proved in 1896 by Jacques Hadamard and by Charles...

before I do that I want to do some pre-processing of the regex, which should probably allow me to implement this, but even that will take a while

@Quill I just found out about this via Imgur on Facebook. :P

but yeah that would be useful
open an issue on github? :)

@MartinBüttner I remembered vaguely something, like you rewrote it, but that seems like a big hassle

I rewrote Regex.Replace
(but the reimplementation is based on Regex.Matches)

8:27 PM
I see

Haha of course that would be a good place to start
I'm adding it to my list of to-dos

@MartinBüttner will do soon

Also, I'm realizing how bad the lyrics are.

I'd never heard of them before.
Have any more recommendations of particularly good covers they've done?

I'm guessing the remote server, since I didn't -L it.

We need a site blog.
Dennis can post golfing tips there.

We already have a blog for people to post their golfing tips. It's on main.
(You have to sort by active for it to look like a blog)

9:42 PM
@Rainbolt You... pointed someone to a tips post? End of days have come...

@NewMainPosts Wow, I came up with the sequence expansion idea before I saw this! :D

@EasterlyIrk I think @Doorknob considered setting one up

@El'endiaStarman Do you know the license on this image (if any)? I can't find it, but have an idea on how to use it in something.

isn't there a proper place for codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/74456/47019 ? it seems like a good question, but apparently it doesn't even belong on meta ( see here meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/1723/… and here meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/8619/…)

9:49 PM
@El'endiaStarman Like the fact that the source of the ESO Copyright page contains the letter 'e' 6155 times?

Definitely not main or meta.
I honestly think that it doesn't belong in any particular place.
Maybe in "Showcase your language"

@AquaTart but why not? the comments just don't say WHY

Because the community decided so
I know, it's a dictatorship ;)

well that sucks. but WHY did the community decide so? (I know, i'm being a toddler)

@Bigtoes IPA: [ʁuʒo], I believe ^^

9:52 PM
@epicTCK The comments link to the meta post that gives the arguments, don't they?

@epicTCK no, not really, to be honest

FWIW, I agree that it's an interesting question, and would be interested in seeing a well written answer. I don't think it fits our scope, though.
It's more of a trivia question than anything.

I just hit random on XKCD and got Hoverboard.

I have just about enough slots to put commands in, but I can't seem to reach enough of them without using up too many for mirrors

Unless anyone has major objections, the PPCG Minecraft Server will be updated to version 1.9 and completely reset approximately 3 hours from now (at 1am, March 1, 2016, UTC). The old world data will be available to download for local use. If you have objections, tell me now!

@El'endiaStarman I cannot imagine that there was too much weight. All elevators etc. do have to have huge safety margins.

@MitchSchwartz Good question...

maybe people will only post answers with horrible complexity, though
this problem collided with SPOJ and hasn't been an issue (so far) codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/55240/…
anarchy golf's "create new problem" page has an etiquette note, "NOTICE: Please check if your problem with deadline is not included in other short coding sites such as codegolf.com or Shortening codes at SPOJ.
