A: I need a program where the user inputs an array of doubles and the program outputs the array sorted

Alexey LebedevJavaScript has a built-in sort() function, you can use it like this: var numbers = [6, 2.7, 8]; numbers.sort(); // => [2.7, 6, 8] ...oh, totally forgot to mention, it sorts in lexicographic order, i.e. 10 < 9 and 9 < -100. Probably that's what you expect anyway.

ugh I killed the chat :|

Ah, code trolling at its peak.

i forget if i ever participated in any code trolling questions but i know i answered some god awful popcons and looking back i'm just like
why did i encourage it

2:19 AM
@Doorknob Wow, I had no idea where that saying came from, I thought it was just picked up from somewhere else

what is the average time until a question starts getting answers?

Depends on how difficult the question is

^

And what time it is in general. This time of day an average question doesn't take too long.

@ETHproductions It's not. Alex originated it in chat. :P

2:21 AM
An easy one, 68 seconds. A difficult one, 30 minutes. An insanely hard one, 4 days. One that was discussed in the presence of Dennis before it was posted, 2 seconds.

I'm finally 27 rep away from catching back up to DigitalTrauma. :O

@Doorknob And then posted as an anonymous user? I see how it is :P
He said it best himself

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

GamrCorpsWeekly Physics Golf #1: Wavelength of a Sound Wave code-golfmath Introduction to the Series Every week I will be posting a physics challenge. My goal here is to design challenges that in the end, teach some people some physics. Overall, the challenges will be very basic with little information....

who upvoted my wolf
what
i posted that in april 2014

I get that from time to time too.

@undergroundmonorail I was looking through the wolf challenge.

2:30 AM
I stopped being active on Stack Overflow after I reached about 21k and since then I've surpassed 30k almost exclusively from residual rep

I stopped on SO at just over 10k, and I think I'm around 14k now.

i feel bad about my wolf because i independently came up with the idea but it turned out someone had already proposed it. with the same name, which i also independently came up with
i didn't steal it but it looked a lot like i stole it
i'm at 105 SO rep

I'm at 170 IIRC

Oh, wow. Actually, exactly 15k right now:

2:32 AM
Got 50 of it from a single answer about two weeks ago

I stopped on SO after I got question banned because I could never find any question that would make mine a duplicate

I post like 1 review on CR every few days and I still get 25~50 rep a day

@Geobits Exactly 15k!
someone ruined it...

> I have orbited the Sun 15 times.

That's ok. I got what I needed.

case 3: break;

And I wonder why everything I have is broken...

Someone should've downvoted instead of upvoted ;)
@ETHproductions is this actual code you wrote? O_O

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ No, but it's pretty close

@Geobits Congrats!

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Is this actual code?

Yes.
I just made a language.

That looks awesome.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ is it on github?

I call it "Oration"
@GamrCorps Yes, it is!

2:39 AM
Like the interpreter is really nervous and you have to calm it down so it can compute stuff for you.

Ill have to check that out then

@Zgarb Pretty much! XD
I need to finish documentation

Backtracking. could maybe be Take a step back.

Oo, I'll add that! :D

@Lynn Hello!
You used to be Mauris, right?

2:41 AM
Heya~
Used to!

makes mental note

Nice. Felt like a change?

Ahh, well, sorta... Life stuff happened. (I'm transgender; slowly coming out in more and more places)

Oh, okay. Well I'm glad you feel you can be yourself here with us. :)

Yeah, I expected this community to take it pretty well ^^

2:46 AM
most of the subsites from the main trio are cool

@Lynn Given that if anyone was being hateful then the mods would just chat suspend them, so I think the worst response you'd get would be indifference. :P

@AlexA. Oh yeah, I've noticed the moderators around here being pretty good about that kind of stuff, thankfully

translate en: how juic avacad
(from English) how juic avacad

Lies, that barely qualifies as English.

Hey does anyone know where I can find a boolf*** code generator?

@Doorknob Äye. (And I should note: formerly endangered, no longer listed as such)
@SuperJedi224 Like language -> Boolfuck transpiler?

2:50 AM
Holy heck, this answer, huh. codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/70596/3852

Or a boolf*** version of something like this-> copy.sh/brainfuck/text.html

@Lynn I'm still reading that one in installments...

@Lynn Yup! Lotsa stuff happen.

@Lynn What's your preferred pronoun?

@Lynn Yeah, that answer is pretty insane. O_o

2:52 AM
I'm also not convinced that the reference implementation is working right.

flawr's?

I'll have to test it on the "Hello, World!" program from the site
Well, that works at least.

@mınxomaτ How even did you do that answer :O
It's so cool

@AlexA. Oh, yeah, I prefer "she" (thank you for asking!)

...boolf*** character output is little-endian.

2:57 AM
I can never remember which byte order is called big/little endian. Does anyone have a good mnemonic?

^

@Lynn Good to know, thanks!

@Lynn Totally random, but how do you feel about "xe"? Like, what do you think about it?

2:59 AM
That explains why the rather ad hoc java boolf*** generator I made wasn't working

@feersum Just remember it's the other way around from what you'd expect. It's the beginning, not the end of the sequence of bytes that is big/little

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I feel a bit mixed about nonstandard pronouns. They stick out like a sore thumb to me, but then again, I've never met anyone who uses them. As a neutral alternative, I feel like "they" does a great job!

@Lynn Cool! Thanks for the input. My ex-gf prefers "xe", so I was just wondering ^_^

Woo I see a Nitori

@AlexA. This thread contains mnemonics for every possible thing except endianness

3:01 AM
@feersum Haha I noticed that

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Is that ex-girlfriend, or ex-girl friend?

I have a friend who falls out the gender binary and prefers "they", and it feels completely natural to me, whereas that's already weird for some people

@feersum The former.

So I imagine it's a bit like that with "xe"

3:04 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ (Out of curiosity, what's xir rationale for using "xe"? Just not feeling like "he/she/they" fit?)

@Lynn Purist English teachers. And I'm a guy ;)

"Purist" in that they can't stand singular "they"?

@AlexA. Precisely. ^_^

Some English teachers are a few centuries behind language developments.

Honestly, I can't imagine English teachers who are purists about "they" being A-OK about "xe", haha

3:06 AM
Shakespeare was my college English professor.
@Lynn Same

Then again, I don't "get" prescriptivism. I guess to them once a word means a thingy it means that thingy until the heat death of the universe

@Lynn I did a report on the new gender-neutral pronouns, and they bought it X3

Ah! That's a cool thing to do a report about.

Very! English is fun sometimes.

Sometimes

3:10 AM
Sometimes, it be fun. Else times, it be ridiculous.
I lost to Java in Fibonacci ;_;

I'd like English usage to get to a point where using "he" or "she" in a sentence that isn't about gender sounds as unnecessary as using "blond" in a sentence that isn't about hair colour or "octogenarian" in a sentence that isn't about age.
2

@trichoplax me too, but then you'd never know when gender is involved.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Oh, re: "I'm a guy": that "xir" was me referring to your ex, FWIW, not you

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Really?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ That's fine - when gender/hair colour/age is relevant, it gets mentioned explicitly, rather than being implicitly included in every sentence, giving the impression that it is somehow always relevant.

3:13 AM
@trichoplax Oh..... I see.

@trichoplax Imagine explaining gendered pronouns to kids in history class when they're gone, a thousand years from now

I guess that means I should go to bed. I can't think anymore.

(Maybe that's wishful thinking, but)

@Lynn Exactly - it's like teaching French to English speakers and trying to explain why household objects all have to have a gender.

It would be such a beautiful mess.
Haha

3:20 AM
On a completely unrelated note, I've finally passed squeamish ossifrage and Jakube in rep and am now in the fourth row! \o/

I finally re-surpassed DigitalTrauma and have reclaimed my spot in the first row
But that was partially due to what I suspect was someone serially upvoting me (cough cough) -_-

@Lynn I've never seen this before. Brings the point home powerfully

Yes, it's so clever!

Leave it to Douglas Hofstadter. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So when are the Best of PPCG winners going to be announced?

3:33 AM
@quartata It won't be; we've decided to give up on the whole thing.

I didn't expect any less.

David Bowie - 69
Alan Rickman - 69
Donald Trump - 69
we can only hope

Well, I guess I won't be visiting forbes.com again any time soon.

The AdBlock thing?

Yep
I've seen sites that do it gracefully. This isn't one of them IMO.

It's pretty infuriating :(
They rudely block you out, but the way they present their stupid little landing page makes it sound as if they think they're being nice

ಠ___ಠ

3:59 AM
I love the not-so-subtle color coding.

I remember seeing a Firefox plugin that blocks sites from checking whether you're using an adblocker.

Whoever decided to call it an "ad-light experience" should have their internet privileges taken away forever. What a smug term
Fitting license, too, wow

Fuck.

@AlexA. But then you have to use Firefox. Just give me the ads :P

4:02 AM
Object.defineProperties(window, {fuckAdBlock : { value: fuck, enumerable: true, writable: false }});

@Geobits Haha it's not that bad

@Eridan This interpreter ♥

     if self.code[self.ip].cmd == c.BUTT: depth -= 1
Don't go there, Fuckfuck.

Obligatory ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I am planning to post this on Wednesday: meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/2140/… Any suggestions?

The spoiler tags that hide formulas necessary for the challenge are kind of weird...

@Lynn Did you change your name from something or have I just never noticed you before?

4:07 AM
To me that seems reason enough not to use that website, but if you want to read their content, you can use Firefox with no ad blocker, and then press the reading icon in the address bar, which just presents the text without any of the page formating. It happens to not show any adverts either. Also good for sites that play audible adverts - they also stop once you are in reading mode.

@Eridan Read tha transcript, brah

@AlexA. Yeah, but I couldn't get around that, but do you know of a way to fix the second hint spoilers?

I went by "Mauris" before! You may have seen me around

Ah, OK. I was gonna say, if I missed a 10k user over like 6 months that would be awkward
@AlexA. The transcript is like, really long

@Lynn You're the CJam guy, right?

4:08 AM
@Eridan Or a very impressive rep increase

She made gs2.

@trichoplax Repcap

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Do you mean aditsu, the one who made CJam?

Yeah aditsu made CJam

Oh I didn't have to go that far back after all. Sorry @AlexA. :P

4:10 AM
@AlexA. No, I meant that he had a lot of CJam submissions.

@Eridan Haha no need to apologize :P
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ Oh. Yeah, Lynn is a master of the CJam arts.

@Eridan 200 per day for 50 days...

@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ I am, more appropriately, the CJam girl now. But yes!

If I unicode-shortcut a quine program, would that count as a quine built-in?

@trichoplax Still, if someone repcapped 50 days in a row, I'd probably see them around. I may live under the rock, but the rock is of sufficiently small magnitude that I can see out from under it sometimes.

4:13 AM
@Eridan Indeed - I wasn't being too serious :)

Me neither :P

@Lynn I didn't know what pronoun you preferred sorry. I think Alex fixed it

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Yes

english too weirdz

English is at least better than British.

4:15 AM
@AlexA. ugh, quines suck

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ Yes, I agree.
I think after the initial quine challenge, all quine variants are just beating a dead horse.

Quines are just too meta.

@quartata Don't worry about it! English is way too weirdz

value: fuck, enumerable: true, writable: false

TeaScript can't really have quines because it's transpiled so reflection is practically impossible :(

4:16 AM
> value: fuck

@AlexA. -1 please remove whitespace

(Clearly I should change my display name to ♀♀♀♀♀Lynn♀♀♀♀♀.)

@Doᴡɴɢᴏᴀᴛ You should submit it as an issue on this repo

@Lynn I think you'd be making more of a statement that you support mass double-leg amputations :P

Two birds, one stone, I say

4:19 AM
@Eridan That took me a while

What took you a while?

I still don't get it

I don't either

@quartata ♀ looks like a stick figure with the legs amputated

♀ looks like a little stick person with no legs!

4:20 AM

It looks like it has one leg
uh

I do not see the irony

@Eridan uhhhh what's going on

Thouros was abbreviated by θρ, and Phosphoros by Φ, both in the handwriting of alchemists so somewhat different from the Greek symbols we know. Huh.

3 hours ago, by Alex A.
@Eridan Same shit as always

4:22 AM
I'm gonna log off now and watch the rest of the Iowa results

cruz already won :(

I thought it was over
@Maltysen OVERALL?!
I knew he won the Republican caucus and Hillary won the Democratic

no for the republicans
hilary won by like <1%

Oh, okay.

It's 21-21 in the Dems, how's it been called? They're literally tied

4:24 AM
50% Hillary, 49.3% Bernie, 0.6% O'Malley
According to Google last I checked

It's not based on the popular vote though, is it? It seems like it's based on delegate number.

true

Ok, cya

It's close enough that both candidates are going to use their own definition of "won" for the next few days either way.

Yeah

4:27 AM
@ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ can you please stop abusing three different alphabets to make your name look slightly prettier?

Ah, that moment after flashing your phone, waiting for it to boot up. Or not.

@ThomasKwa It's a language turducken

I just went through that while de-Kindling a Fire tablet :D

I think Hillary will probably come out a delegate or two on top, but Sanders will get the lead after New Hampshire, IDK about after that.

4:28 AM
Ended up bootlooping for a few hours while I googled frantically.

@Geobits does that let you keep the free internet thing?

Dunno, but doubt it. I wasn't concerned with that, tbh.

@Geobits Definitely read that as "buttlooping"

@ThomasKwa (but I agree - it's painful to read)

@PhiNotPi Is Bernie ahead in New Hampshire?

4:30 AM
By quite a bit from recent polls.
Not surprising, being from Vermont.

I can't read ӍѲꝆΛҐӍΛПҒЦꝆ's name :(

@Geobits I'm no longer using my OnePlus One, so I unfroze the system upgrades which I had turned off, just to discover that my custom recovery (TWRP) would let me install the next OTA update, but not the one after that. So I flashed the latest stock ROM, and the device no longer recognized my SIM card. Now I flashed a backup from the last working version (before today's disaster), and it ain't booting up...

I think I'm missing two glyphs, which doesn't help

Total brick, or boot anim loop?

No, not bricked.

4:33 AM
I got stuck in fastboot-only on the kindle. Those things can be a pain.

Gosh, I'm terrified of messing with my phone's firmware and stuff. I don't know where people find the courage
It looks sort-of-easy to break everything very hard

Well, my latest adventure was on my kid's Fire. He got it for Christmas (surprise, Dad!) from a relative, and I just wanted to Nexus-ify it.

It's easy to break them, but it's hard to break them for good now.

I've never had these problems before. I'm not sure what went wrong this time.

4:36 AM
unfortunately my school put dev mode off on the chromebooks, otherwise I would have installed ubuntu on half of them by now
last year, when they were relatively new to this technology thing was fun. I mangaed to get ubuntu and arch on a few

Installing arch is your hobby?

Sounds more like defacing school equipment is the hobby :P

^

Who are you rooting for, if anyone, @Geobits?

4:42 AM
Bernie might as well pack up after such a crushing defeat in Iowa.
4

@AlexA. Oooh wow.

Hmm. I like Bernie. I don't think he'd do as well in the general as Clinton, to be honest, but I just don't like Clinton much.
Honestly, though, if it ends up being vs Cruz, I think even O'Malley would win.

People keep saying that, but America is full of people who like Ted Cruz. Just saying that makes me nauseous.

Nah, a portion of one party does. I don't know anyone in person who likes him, and I have a family full of Republicans.
I don't think he'll even end up the nominee.

I wonder who the Republican nominee could be.

4:46 AM
^

It wouldn't surprise me much to see both Cruz and Trump flame out, leaving it to Rubio.

@Geobits I don't like him, but it would be a lot better than those two

That's not saying much :P

Rubio definitely has a pretty good shot, for some definition of "good shot."

bernie just said that its a "virtual tie"
the hedging has started

4:49 AM
It's too bad you have to be psychotic to actually want the job. I know lots of people that would do a good job, but good luck convincing any sane person they should run.
I'm thinking a mandatory lottery system would probably work out better than anyone expects.

The whole Jeb Bush thing is kinda interesting. If you weren't looking at any actual poll numbers, you'd probably guess that he's a strong candidate.

Yea, I think he's got too much baggage in the end. Not that I like him anyway, because he sucked in Florida.

@ThomasKwa My purpose is to make you feel pain.

> Apologies for being on topic

@Geobits I can't tell which one that is to replace...

That's subjective.

I don't want a tag with a subjective purpose!

It kind of works for programming puzzles...

Also the bad trivial challenges where first post is tiebreak

I'm suggesting the new name for .

Nah, that one would be , since the first two are terrible and not serious attempts

@feersum yeah I see your point. The vote ordering of most pop cons really doesn't reflect popularity
