Yes, but golfier.

Posting in the Pyth chat also works if you want to give suggestions

Okay.

@isaacg Hi! I've had a question about Pyth for a while. Reading the herokuapp descriptions, I cannot find a way to form an array literal. Is this possible in Pyth?

[

Yeah - it's [

12:01 AM
ninjaed each other. :P

Since arrays can be arbitrarily long, you'll need to end it with ) if you want other code after that

Huh. I tried that and I got [1.[2.[3]]]
IIRC

A single [

There's no separators

12:02 AM
Ohh

No commas
You'll need spaces, though

so [1 2 3 4 5)?

Or else it'll think it's one number
But if it was anything but numbers, no spaces either

12:04 AM
[1 4 6) doesn't do [1, ,4, , ,6]?
Or is that not Python

No
2
The spaces are just to separate numbers

oh
Sorry, Pyth noob

If you want actual strings consisting of spaces, use d
IT's OK

@isaacg thanks
Fun fact: I created Jolf because I didn't know how to make an array literal in Pyth :P

@isaacg So emphatic
IT IS ALRIGHT CONOR DO NOT BE AFRAID ISAAC IS HERE FOR YOU

12:07 AM
@AlexA. yay! \o/

12:36 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I just answered the Char Value Calculator question and my answer is very similar to Jolf's.

@Cyoce Huh!
@Cyoce Maybe...
I kinda want to write a PlatyPar to Jolf converter
Just to see what happens

Might be a little difficult
If I understand correctly Jolf uses variables whereas PlatyPar uses a stack

That's why it'll be fun

Then have fun

Hello 476

12:42 AM
476?

1:07 AM
Someone want to help me with repl.it/Bbtv/0 and repl.it/Bbtw/0? Both return different outputs, and the C output is the correct one. (Translated from C to JS.)

So....
Explain to me which is which?
oh wait nvm
@ՊՓԼՃՐՊՃՈԲՍԼ Any idea as to what a[52514] does? I'm baffled.

Creates an array of length 52514.
(Thanks to quartata for telling me that!)

Oh.
That's weird.
Is that the desired digit count, or something?
Only 15k digits are made

1:20 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I'm not too sure either... cs.ox.ac.uk/jeremy.gibbons/publications/spigot.pdf is where I got it from.

@ՊՓԼՃՐՊՃՈԲՍԼ Hm. Maybe I could make sense of the maths.
52514 apx. pi ^ 9.5
hmmmm
> `printf`
> If successful, the total number of characters written is returned. On failure, a negative number is returned.
That's what h is
console.log returns undefined, afaik

Oh... darnit!
Good catch!

So, (h?a[b]:f/5) would be "If successful and if not zero chars were printed, return a[b], otherwise f/5"
Thanks ^_^

suggestions for a fix/polyfill?

a=new Array(c=52514);for(;b=c-=14;console.log(h=("000"+(e+d/f)).length))for(e=d%=f;g=--b*2;d/=g)d=d*b+f*(h?a[b]:f/5),a[b]=d%--g;
My attempt at a direct translation, using your padding zero technique
Not sure if it works
wait
forgot f
d is never defined in the C source
wait I lie

1:33 AM
It is, but since it's declared in the global scope, it's predefined to 0.
Same with h.

Yeah, I should really learn C.

Don't.
It's hardly used anymore iirc

a=new Array(c=52514);f=1e4;for(d=h=0;b=c-=14;console.log(h=("000"+(e+d/f)).length))for(e=d%=f;g=--b*2;d/=g)d=d*b+f*(h?a[b]:f/5),a[b]=d%--g;

Q: A 4x4 Challenge

Zach GatesA while back, I created a simple brain game called Enumerate (based on Takuzu). Your challenge is to play this game. Task Solve a game of 4x4 Enumerate. Receive a starting grid via STDIN or command line. Output the solved grid via STDOUT or writing to file. Rules There must be the sam...

I think it's working :D

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ This doesn't return digits of pi, tho

3 mins ago, by Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'Bʀɪᴇɴ
OH SHOOT MADE A MISTAKE

Oh nvm
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ CODE PLZ

a=new Array(c=52514);f=1e4;for(d=h=0;b=c-=14;h=("000"+(e+d/f)).length,console.log("000"+(e+d/f)))for(e=d%=f;g=--b*2;d/=g)d=d*b+f*(h?a[b]:f/5),a[b]=d%--g;
That doesn't return the result either
It's consoled to the log
You'd have to (a) remove the zero padding part (b) append h to a string

1:41 AM
No, it should log the digits.

The rest of the digits are off though... Hmm.

they are? D:
Maybe f is the precision....
By decreasing the precision, we could get (less digits) for (more accuracy)?
I don't really know what the algorithm is doing
It looks like a nice pseudo-random number generator...

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I'm not sure of what I think about ~0 compiling to Infinity.

@Cyoce :D You read the source code?

oh
I didn't think I did that yet o_O
Yeah, I'm moving it to a Math constant
It's going to be msomething or other
Let me do that now, actually

ok

m% = Infinity

2:16 AM
m/

Hmm maybe that's better

A: Make the pattern from composition notebooks

LegionMammal978Mathematica Blur[Binarize[Blur[RandomImage[1, {1000, 1000}, ImageSize -> Large], 6], .52]] Quite simple. Creates a random grayscale image, blurs it, takes the pixels above a threshold, and blurs it again. It uses a couple of hand-tweaked values. The result:

That thing you did.
And never finished.

Who needs Perlin noise?

I'm actually redesigning it @El'endiaStarman
It's in my notebook.

ahh, okay

Your "notebook"?

2:19 AM
I was also making an obscure reference to an old movie.
That Thing You Do! is a 1996 American musical comedy drama film written, directed by, and co-starring Tom Hanks. Set in the summer of 1964, the movie tells the story of the rise and fall of a one-hit wonder pop band. The film also resulted in a musical hit with the song "That Thing You Do". == PlotEdit == In 1964, Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott), an aspiring jazz drummer, is asked by Jimmy Mattingly (Johnathon Schaech) and Lenny Haise (Steve Zahn) to sit in with their band (including bass player (Ethan Embry), who as a running gag is never named but is always referred to as "the bass player"...

XD
@Cyoce Yeah, I keep a few notebooks to write my thoughts down or to prove stuff when I'm bored.
don't judge

A paper notebook?

I have multiple.
I love 'em.

I also have a oneNote notebook
@El'endiaStarman :D me too

2:21 AM
I write incredibly slowly and have terrible writing so I type everything
I couldn't imagine having a physical notebook

Are you still in school?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ yes

@El'endiaStarman That was indeed an obscure reference to an old movie.

@Cyoce Are you allowed to type your notes?

2:23 AM

@AlexA. Have you seen it? I've only seen it because my parents had the movie and watched it a couple times.

@El'endiaStarman No, but I've heard of it.

@Cyoce Well, it's worth noting that maybe half the stuff in the notebook(s) I carry everywhere is writing.
Probably less in the ones I carried before.

2:33 AM

Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'BʀɪᴇɴRep Vacuum To the valid answer on a code-golf question whose byte count is shortest, but is not the highest-voted answer. (The award will be determined by the gap between the highest-voted answer and aforementioned answer.)

Any suggestions?
Thoughts?

2:49 AM
I'm not a big fan of that particular proposal because usually when a submission is really short but it isn't the highest voted, it's not all that clever. That, at least in my mind, implies that it isn't necessarily deserving of a bounty.

@AlexA. me!

But it's the best on a . Cleverness doesn't matter.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ you should add a markdown button to your Jolf interpreter like mine has. It's really useful when posting answers.

@Cyoce What does it do?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yes, but being the shortest will get you the coveted check mark. Having an interesting solution will get you votes.

2:51 AM
It generates the markdown for an answer

@AlexA. Maybe "also uncheck-marked"?

I've only tried it on chrome :(

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Why would it be uncheckmarked unless invalid?

Why would you use let as a variable name anyway? o.O

I don't

@trichoplax I've seen it a lot.

@trichoplax If something shorter comes along

@Cyoce oh my God it looks like your code blew up

I'm lazy

Also, since you only use code once, you should just do linkbox.value = 'https://rawgit.com/cyoce/PlatyPar/master/page.html' + gen_query ({code:rawbox.value});

@AlexA. That should be Apple's motto.

Haha why?

There's so much XML everywhere.
