I tried Go, tried to get into it, but it just felt like they tried to reinvent the wheel and ended up with something subpar.

In fact, I just compiled c89 using g++

And it didn't compile it as backwards-compatible C++

My claim was about compiling C++ with gcc.

I just tried it and my memories were correct.

Indeed, all of those g* commands are simply aliases to gcc

it switched to using the C linker
my point is, they're intelligently interchangable

It resulted in a linker error due to the standard C++ library not being linked.

In which case, multiple excellent answers (for an, unfortunately, debatable definition of "excellent") would increase the quality of pedantic discussions
