@orlp nope, but since it is calculable, I'll add it

9:01 PM
I somehow perform half as bad as the random player
kinda puzzled why

@AlexA. I joke that it's what the squirrel said, but it's actually a mashup/abbreviation that one of my friends came up with of two other aliases I used to use

@Mego Looks like you're calling b on k/(m-k+1) rather than on k itself.

> "Read" doesn't rhyme with "lead," but "read" and "lead" do. And "read" doesn't rhyme with "lead," but "read" and "lead" do.

@AlexA. Yes, Ronda Rousey

@TimmyD the existence of bad pronunciation doesn't justify the existence of additional bad pronunciations

I'm getting the stinkeye. It was an honest question :-/

@Rainbolt not everyone's real name is as unconventional as yours

@NathanMerrill So true

9:04 PM
Well it sounded like he has heard leggo my eggo more than most people. I was wondering why, so I figured his name had something to do with it.

But no English rules are justified

Rainbolt? because thunder bolt was already taken by Zues?

Same with imperial units

Winter bash is coming all!

My Algorithms professor in college was Dr. Rainwater

@Rainbolt story behind Rainbolt ?

@orlp Added

wait your name is actually Rainbolt?

9:05 PM
@Rainbolt As a reformed waffle thief, I have probably heard "Leggo my Eggo" more than most.

@Optimizer Mispelling of a German last name like Reindall or Randalf.

@FlagAsSpam it's a letter (greek one)

@usandfriends Thanks for making CJam 101!

reindall is misspelled to Rainbolt? o.O

hey @anOKsquirrel

@Rainbolt One of the two aliases I used started with "Lego" (I was like 10 when I made it)

@anOKsquirrel It's pretty terrible ATM.

@ev3commander ohai

@Rainbolt John Rainwater? The University of Washington math department has a running joke about a fake person named John Rainwater, who they use on publications.

@ev3commander Hello

@usandfriends It's great having a reference right next to your code tho

9:06 PM
That is true.

By the way any more strawpolls?

@Optimizer I assume that some time ago, US immigration laws were looser, and my family made it in with a minimal amount of paperwork, and the people helping them become "official" couldn't understand their German accent.

Anyone know if a challenge like append "¿" or "¡" at the beginning of a sentence?

It's just a guess. Their all dead now so I can't ask them

@usandfriends nope

9:07 PM
@Rainbolt I see.

@Rainbolt That's how my grandpa and his brother ended up with different last names.

@AlexA. Really???
Haha

@AlexA. His name was Stephen Rainwater uttyler.edu/cs/faculty/srainwater.php

My grandpa was Rustem Aruslan and his brother was Vakkas Arslan.

That is hilarious=)

9:08 PM
@AlexA. starts doxxing Alex ;-)

Maybe he changed his name from John to Stephen because your math department made fun of him.

My grandpa liked his brother's name better so in the 1980s he, my grandma, and my dad (who was already married to my mom so her too) all went from Aruslan to Arslan.

But why haven't they been asked to write their name down?

lets keep the chat a happy place :)

@flawr Because my grandpa's English and handwriting are terrible. He probably wrote it آﺮﺴﻠﺎﻦ and Ellis Island was like "uh what"

9:10 PM
who's up for some Barney and friends?

I hate you, you hate me
Let's team up and kill Barney

@Rainbolt killing barney is worth it

@CSᵠ I know it is. But ugh, so is NUL.

@NathanMerrill how come the scores jumped an order of magnitude?

9:13 PM
Sorta.

Speaking of last names, when a gay couple gets married how do you decide who changes the last name? Or do you just both keep it?

Whaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

@FlagAsSpam you're null

@Rainbolt Decided by the couple.

9:13 PM
@TimmyD I recall someone mentioning what doxxing is at some point...

@Rainbolt best is to find same sir name

@FlagAsSpam what you changed usernames?

@Mego I cannot get your memoization to work

@Optimizer So like I'll be Sir Rainbolt?

I'm the same as I've always been.

9:14 PM
@Rainbolt laws usually state in a marriage any can take the other's name

@FlagAsSpam uh nope

More strawpolls

or join them

@Rainbolt well, both will be Sir Rainbolt only

9:14 PM
@Votetoclose RIP

@Rainbolt Whichever. You can both take one name, use different names, or make up your own new last name.

@TanMath Python 3

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Rainbolt just like any other marriage you choose what you want

Same as any other couple

9:15 PM
I'm pretty sure you can change your name to whatever you feel like changing it to. I was just wondering if there was some sort of precedent for it.
Like hyphenation or whatever

@AlexA. any other couple don't make up new last names

You can

note to self: change name to AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

that the woman always took the man's name is outdated for decades

@ev3commander Always first!

Doxing (from dox, abbreviation of documents), or doxxing, is the Internet-based practice of researching and broadcasting personally identifiable information about an individual. The methods employed to acquire this information include searching publicly available databases and social media websites (like Facebook), hacking, and social engineering. It is closely related to internet vigilantism and hacktivism. Doxing may be carried out for various reasons, including to aid law enforcement, business analysis, extortion, coercion, harassment, online shaming and vigilante justice. == Etymology...

any one can, but while marriage, any other couple will choose one of the last names

@Mego oh

@ev3commander strawpoll.me/6153680
@ev3commander do it!

@ev3commander Why.

done

9:16 PM
@Rainbolt I'm pretty sure the commonly agreed upon method is you thumb wrestle to see whose name to keep
3

@anOKsquirrel

@ev3commander you changed it?

@CSᵠ I noticed that scores were pretty variable from run to run, so I added an extra 0. I edited my post to reflect that change

oh :P

9:16 PM
@Optimizer Not necessarily. Geoff and Griffon Ramsey when they got married changed their last names to Ramsey. His was Fink and hers was some other weird thing, I forget what.

although
i might chagne my username
to that

ah

@AlexA. Don't forget his middle name is Lazer

@PeterTaylor what an edit

I have 4 names

@Mego I know XD
@orlp O R L P?

@AlexA. yes
orlp are my initials

Orange Rain Lemon Peeling

Oh okay. I knew the O and P.

@AlexA. Also he changed his last name for reasons unrelated to the marriage. His father's last name was Fink and his mother's maiden name was Ramsey. He changed it to his mother's maiden name because his father abandoned them iirc.

i have a friend with 7 names

bytheway @anOKsquirrel you know i created a tool for getting strawpoll results

I need a little help real quick.

I want to get off mr. Merrill's wild ride

Okay, so me and some guys in my Physics class are having some problems. Basically, we used the kinematics equation to find acceleration (2s/t^2 = a) and a try fit, then multiplied the "A" value by 2 (second derivative) and we got that the latter was half the magnitude of the former. Any valid explanation for this?

9:22 PM
@orlp Hahaha what?

@FlagAsSpam That's a lot of words and I'm not sure what they're saying

@FlagAsSpam I hated physics.

Q: Tips for golfing in Go (Golang)

sysreq Yes, I'm aware of this question, which got exactly 0 answers because nobody used Golang for golfing back in 2014. However, now, I have seen at least a few users (not including myself) using Golang for golfing (though it's not exactly optimal). I say, if Java gets a Tips for golfing in Java, th...

On the Stack Exchange network, that is

@flawr you earn hats that you get to put on your profile pic

9:28 PM
So I can take this as “my challenge idea is boring as fuck?”

@Optimizer will become a llama with a hat

@FUZxxl I think it should be taken as "everyone here has the collective attention span of a gnat."

@FUZxxl You can take it as "I'm not clicking that link because I don't trust it"

@Mego :-( But that's my website... why don't you trust it?

9:29 PM
I dont remember but i was first or second last time in PPCG
the site for 2014 is down now

Wait, what the ... that's not the right image.

@TimmyD space core?

What do you do there?

@FUZxxl Because I don't have a reason to trust it

@Mego Oh, okay...

So this starts at december 14rth?

Is there a meta post containing basic Code Golf rules that question-makers can copy/paste?

@usandfriends They're in the code golf tag wiki

its on main itself
its called Matin's questions

9:32 PM
@usandfriends most of our rules are applied by default

They don't need to be pasted into every challenge

@usandfriends all you really need to do is determine the scoring, and if you are still worried, post it on the sandbox

@ev3commander strawpoll.me/6153840

@flawr rude

9:33 PM
Cool, thanks @NathanMerrill and @AlexA..

@ev3commander you can make your own polls...
