7:00 AM
@AlexA. What? Perhaps you'd like to reread what I said. :-P

Note that "assumed" is past tense. ;)

Ah, hahahaha.

Sounds like a magical place.
We have ##ppcg if you ever want to join.
It's usually quite barren.

@AlexA. freenode, or elsewhere?

Oh sorry, yeah freenode

7:02 AM
Sure, I'll be happy to join. ;-)

:D

Holy crap, there's nobody there.
At least #stackoverflow have people in it, albeit idlers mostly.

Anonymous
Sounds like ##ppcg needs an influx of Megos and bots

Doorknob has a bot that comes in

fireworks should be banned/removed/owner only

7:15 AM
Feature request the Miaou guy

just did, unofficially

How?

I understand how fractals work, but sometimes, it still baffles me how there's SO MUCH DETAIL.
Okay, this is severely tricking my eyes with regards to white balance.
Oh, here's another stare-worthy gif:

7:33 AM
Cha-ching 1000+ rep on SO!

7:49 AM
@El'endiaStarman Why do magenta, cyan, and yellow make black? shouldn't they make white?

@quintopia It's red, green, and blue that make white.

Anonymous
@quintopia Subtractive colors, not additive

@Mego it weirds me to have subtractive colors on a monitor :P

ever tried making paint mixings with html RGB ratios?

Anonymous
7:51 AM
@quintopia Tbh I dunno how chromatic optics works, I just regurgitated what my physics prof said

Anonymous
I barely paid attention in that part of physics

ಠ_ಠ
Is simple. You should know.
Okay, trying to find a particular diagram...

I don't like that second one

Anonymous
Is the circle thingy yellow?

What's the problem with it?

7:56 AM
no
well

Anonymous
I have no idea what color it is

it should be "white light (whole visible spectrum)"

@Mego Oh wait, you're one of our color-blind users, right?

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman Yep

and "all light except yellow absorbed"
and "yellow light reflected"

7:57 AM
Yes, the circle is yellow.

Anonymous
Hence why chromatic optics is especially hard for me

That makes more sense now... >_>

Anonymous
Normies look at examples and are like "oh yeah that totally makes sense"

Anonymous
I look at it and am like "wait is that yellow or green"

@Mego well i'm a normie and it totally doesn't make sense :P

Anonymous
7:59 AM
@quintopia It doesn't make sense to you for a different reason - you're complaining about lack of details

Red + green = yellow

Anonymous
I'm complaining about my eyes lacking the ability to accurately tell me what color something is

@quintopia: Yes, the corrections you've pointed out are technically correct. However, remember that the cones in our eyes are primarily sensitive to red, green, and blue light, so it makes sense to separate those out.

@El'endiaStarman that is also misleading

Anonymous
I know the formulas for colors, but for the most part, they are meaningless to me

8:00 AM
In Mego's case, he's missing basically all the sensitive-to-blue cones.

Anonymous
And a good chunk of the green ones

the cones in our eyes are differentially sensitive to ranges of colors. yellow just happens to excite both L and M cones in the same way that a particular mix of red and green light does.

Anonymous
Really it's a wonder I'm not achromatic :P

Anonymous
Here's a fascinating fact: some people aren't aware that color tv and movies were ever created

8:02 AM
@Mego Is there any other part of your vision that's adversely effected, or is color-blindness the only problem?

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman I'm moderately myopic and have pretty bad astigmatism in my left eye

@Mego because they are achromatic and never realize it? or just because they live in a place without tv and movies?

Anonymous
I can see ok without glasses, but there's a lot of squinting involved

Anonymous
@quintopia Both, but I mainly meant the first

@Mego You'd have to live with people who are also achromatic. Otherwise, you'd eventually notice a difference between your perception and theirs

8:04 AM
Not necessarily.

Anonymous
My prescription is 2.75xL 3.50xR

Anonymous
^^

Anonymous
An individual who is achromatic from birth could feasibly go their entire life without ever considering that their vision is abnormal

Anonymous
How do you know you're missing something when you never had it?

One of my friends said some time ago that they went for many years (like, around 20) before they realized that they had synesthesia.

8:06 AM
i mean, there'd have to be some sort of conditions for you never to look at an optical diagram and go "that diagram makes no sense"

Anonymous
@quintopia What do you mean?

no one with access to the internet, and the wealth of colorblindness tests all over it would not notice eventually

Anonymous
Why would you take a colorblindness test?

Anonymous
They're not routinely administered

idk I think there were colorblindness tests at school about 5000 times

Anonymous
8:09 AM
I never took one at school

Anonymous
Well, not until high school, after I had already known I was colorblind

How/when did you figure it out?

Anonymous
I don't exactly remember

Anonymous
I was pretty young, like 7

Anonymous
I think my sister suspected I might be colorblind, and got me to try a test she made (one of those dot tests) with markers

Anonymous
8:10 AM
But it's been a few years :P

haha, yeah

Anonymous
My grandfather is also colorblind, and he didn't find out until he was like 30

That reminds me of a science fair project I did in middle school (which got an Honorable Mention, probably mostly because it was more research than it was project) where I looked at how our eyes react after being inundated with lots of white light. I actually had a color-blind person do the same thing. I don't remember what he saw. But I remember what prompted that experiment.
I had been out in the snow for like three hours or something, then I came inside. I remember the white walls of the house being magenta, and I had that kind of after-effect for a couple minutes. It was pretty weird and cool too.

Anonymous
Whenever that happens to me, everything looks more blue for a while

Anonymous
I dunno what color it actually appears to be, but it looks blue

8:15 AM
Really? That's fascinating.

Anonymous
It's probably affected by what cones in your eyes don't work

Who wants to play battleship?

@Calvin'sHobbies up

That's an interesting idea. N-player Battleship.

yup, ppcg it?

8:25 AM

Okay, what about this idea? Field is much larger, everyone has their ships on the same field, but you only know the positions of your ships and where you successfully hit other ships.
I think that'd be a way to do n-player Battleship.

implement it then

Nah, you do it. I have a language to finish. :P

@El'endiaStarman nice

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman And once your ships are all out, no more shots from you

Of course.

8:33 AM
even better: RTS battleship, where you can set ships on courses, and change one ship's course each turn before you fire ze missiles

Anonymous
The only issue would be assigning ship positions

s/turn/30 secs/

HA!!

Also possible: show hits from other players.
@Mego I think that'd have to be done by the computer.

Anonymous
You can determine where another ship is by the fact that you can't place a ship there

Anonymous
8:34 AM
The controller would have to randomly place the ships

Anonymous
This needs to be a KotH

@El'endiaStarman king-of-the-hill n-battleship

lol

Alright, I guess I'll put up a preliminary Sandbox post.

ships anchored, each can fire in a "cycle"

8:36 AM
^
so when you don't have a destroyer, you sit the destroyer turn out

Anonymous
Nah, just make it one shot per player who still has at least one ship alive

Anonymous
KISS

neah, simple, ships all can fire

@Mego anti-KISS: one shot per ship you have

8:37 AM
but! relative to ship position and relative to ship size
^ realistic
kinda
@quintopia YUP

Anonymous
@quintopia That's dumb and gives a huge disadvantage to players who are losing

@Mego not if you can see other players' hits

Anonymous
Players who are ahead will stay ahead, and players who are behind will get further behind

more can win in a round...

since you get extra shots when you hit

Anonymous
8:39 AM
@quintopia How does that negate the disadvantage of not being able to fire as often when you are losing?

i just said why

Anonymous
That won't negate it

put the destroyer idea back in, with SPLASH damage!

Anonymous
KISS

8:40 AM
HUG

I'm going with the one-shot-per-turn model.

fewer ships could be an advantage too: less probability yours gets hit

@Mego LESS !

more is less is more!

Okay, should players see other players' successful shots? I kinda like that idea.

Anonymous
@CSᵠ Now you're just typing common words in caps

@El'endiaStarman that would be carnage

8:41 AM
Multiplayer game? My name is plain "Calvin"

But LESS is a thing.

@El'endiaStarman and should people get extra shots after hits?

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman Yes, and I'm on the fence about them seeing other misses too

so is DRY
LESS DRY KISS, more Redundant KISS PLS

I don't think misses should be visible. I mean, a hit will have a huge billowing explosion...

8:43 AM
since it's [koth] you could expose some stuff...
make it realistic, why not

huh, apparently no one on PPCG golfs in Flogscript

maybe see if in your radius ?
back with the radius idea

Anonymous

@Mego It was a weird game. I quit. (sorry if the other player was actually from here)

I was beating you anyway... :P
It's a graph connectivity game!
I didn't get it at first either, but the second round, I did.

@Mego It's the same in Python 2.

@feersum Yeah, but range is also efficient in 3

compressing an entire program then wrapping it in exec(program.decompress()) isn't a loophole is it?
it's not on the list...

@quintopia I'd say no. But it might not help unless the original code is long

@quintopia Make sure to also put the decompressed source code as well so some other golfing tips may arise.

somebody beat the max player!

@NathanMerrill phew !
what's a halfbox?
@VoteToClose why a rPi? bundle deal with license?

1:30 PM
@NathanMerrill I found another tiling with an 8-cell tile density 1/2:
110
 110
  00
with offsets 2(right)/1(up) and 4(down)

@MartinBüttner I'm trying to tile that, but I'm getting overlaps

put the top 11 right underneath the bottom 00
and then shift the entire thing to the two cells to the right and one up
you should get right-up going stairs of Z-tetrominos (of 1s), separated by stairs of 0s.

I believe I found a 3 in a row
let me make sure

damn, where?

maybe not
I can do "two-right, one up" really well
but every time I try "two-left, one down", I always mess up

1:39 PM
:D

something there at the bottom doesn't look quite right

     11000
      00

1:41 PM
yes, that's what it's supposed to look like

so, it feels very similar to the first (trivial) case we came up with
except its rotated 45 degrees
which is super interesting

as a rectangular tile, it's 4x8:
11011000
01100011
10001101
00110110

we have 2x2 grids, a line between them, and a line below them

unfortunately, all of this isn't really helping at all
I'm pretty sure feersum's conjecture is right, but I have no clue how to go about proving it

2:02 PM
have you tried looking at length 4?
1110

@AlexA. I am far more fond of number theory, but that's probably because I've never had to take a quiz on it :P

Ah, so something like
110

for density of 1/2 would work. Is that what you're referring to as "the trivial tiling?"

that tiling doesn't work
110
010
110
010
you have an infinite down line

sorry, need to offset it

no, the trivial tiling is this:

110110110
010010010
