2:00 AM
Chaine has sorting
Though I haven't published it

There's actually a sequel to that: Continuing on the Path to Dijkstra's Handwriting

hovers over link...

Vlog entry

mmhmm

2:02 AM
@AlexA. sigh

@Calvin'sHobbies Not sure if that was what you were getting at, but using join, 4 bytes is possible.

No, that's a shrimp

No, this is Patrick.

2:05 AM
@El'endiaStarman ,Sr@++

@Mego Seriously? (Is that?)

Anonymous
6 bytes of Seriously once I fixed sorting and exploding

It explodes when you try to sort?

Very nice.

That sounds like an issue you should really fix

Anonymous
2:06 AM
@AlexA. ["abc"] -> ["a","b","c"]

Oh yeah, if input is taken in one chunk, it'd have to be exploded in order to sort.

Anonymous
Yep

Unless the sorting function is smart enough...

Anonymous
Well, the sorting works on strings

Anonymous
But I need to explode it to swap the top two elements

2:08 AM
I thought only PHP abusers had to explode things.

Like if the one argument to \sort( is a string, sort the characters. If it's a list, sort the list. That sort of thing.

Four bytes in CJam: q$(* (read, sort, shift, join)

@Mego Everyone get down, it's gonna blow!

@Dennis There we go.

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman Like Python's sorted(iterable) function, which I use :P

2:09 AM
@feersum It's useful in Julia, but pretty much only when golfing, at least in my experience.

@Mego yeah

Anonymous
I'm still happy that my toddler of a language can compete with CJam and Pyth

But with an implicit ''.join().

Anonymous
@El'endiaStarman Which Seriously does if it's a string :P

Anonymous
def S_fn(srs):
    a=srs.pop()
    if type(a) is StringType:
        srs.push(''.join(sorted(a)))
    elif type(a) is ListType:
        srs.push(sorted(a))
    else:
        srs.push(math.sin(a))

2:11 AM
So why do you need to explode it? The rotation part?

Anonymous
Yep

Gotcha.
Now, imagine if that worked on strings too...

Anonymous
That's something I'm toying with adding

Anonymous
...I think I sort of have that already, actually

That terrible moment when you've been coding nonstop for hours and there's a bug in the code.
And the only error you get is: "missing semicolon"

2:13 AM
Should this be rejected because it changes the answer for the user?

@phase Yes, always reject edits that attempt to golf others' code

That's a newer user. My golfs were horrendous when I started.
2

@AlexA. Mine too :P
If I could vote for my own answers, I would have .75k rep extra :P

I'd have almost that much more if downvotes were free ;)

2:20 AM
I FOUND THE SMALL CAPS BLOCK!

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

intrepidcoderSum a List of Integers So, do we have a vanilla sum a list of integers challenge? I couldn't find one but I want to be sure I didn't miss the obvious before posting on the main site. This would be a catalog challenge like "Hello, World!" that tries to get the shortest answer in every language. ...

@NewSandboxedPosts Does there really need to be a catalog for this?
That's probably the one thing that is trivial in every language.

Pancake Stack? :P

Would this be a valid entry for the french flag challenge?
<d style="font-size:10em"><s style="color:#0055A4">█</s><s style="color:white">█</s><s style="color:#EC4135">█

@AlexA. No more trivial than a loop, and we have a catalog for that (please don't take this as an argument for this challenge in particular).

2:30 AM
Don't worry, I don't ;)

Catalog idea: print a character. (specific character)

Catalog idea: Don't cause an error.

@Geobits "" in a lot of languages (without quotes)

I wasn't being serious :/

2:31 AM
I can tell :P

@Geobits ` `
Or ..

I couldn't find an online xxd decode utility so I went ahead and made one:

Code-blocked period is still a period. :(

You have to wait years for periods to go away.
2

@feersum an example use I can think for the fast sine
is in real-time software synths

2:34 AM
Hey guys

or real-time graphics

Hi @SuperJedi224 :)

sadly (or maybe not sadly) it has no use on a graphics card

Mini-challenge: Given two integer inputs, multiply them together and output them

since modern GPUs have single-cycle trigonometry

2:35 AM
Done. My answer is 10.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ,,*

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ *FQ

............ language names.
Seriously and Pyth?

Anonymous
Do you have to ask?

just guessing

I did mine in my head. The integers involved were pretty small.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ fn f(a:i32,b:i32)->i32{a*b}

Anonymous
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Is Apple moving into that market?

@Doorknob longer than java
:D

2:37 AM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Math++ wins. ?*?.

@Mego ...Yes XD

@orlp D:

Is there a language with implicit input?

GolfScript
~*
2-char GS solution

2:37 AM
@Doorknob is the ->i32 necessary?

long f(int a,int b){return a*b;}

@Doorknob Wait, what.

can't the compiler infer that?

@orlp in Rust it's required

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ +, one byte

2:38 AM
@SuperJedi224 what what?

@TheDoctor Language?

Element: __*`

f(a,b){return a*b;}
K&R C

@Doorknob I thought my three-character solution was going to win. :(

implicit int ftl

2:38 AM
+ 1 star bounty for a program that does this with emotes.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ almost any. requires integers to be placed on either side

@TheDoctor It has to take input.
And output :P

:(

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ nn*N.

2:39 AM
@TheDoctor I.... don't know many languages that use + for multiplication.
7

wait
ok got it: i'll use marbelous

honestly
+ should be increment
++ should be plus
+++ should be multiply

Eww

++++ should be exponentiation
+++++ repeated exponentiation...

Too many bytes!!

Anonymous
2:40 AM
^

@orlp tetration, iirc :P

I like the name "power tower". :D

@orlp and ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++‌+++++++++++ represents knuth up-arrow notation

Hey all!

2:42 AM
@TanMath Hi

fun fact

hmmmmm why is it that whenever @TanMath appears the star abuse begins :P
4

recursion contains the word recursion in itself!

2:43 AM
2 +++++ n = A(4, n - 3) + 3
where A is the ackermann function

@Doorknob huh? I promise you it is not me!
I am hurt!

'tis but a joke ;)

Jokes hurt when they come from cold, metal objects.

or from the orifice known as @Doorknob's mouth.

@Seadrus ಠ_ಠ

2:46 AM
I don't have a mouth I have a keyhole

Anonymous
@Seadrus You really are @Geobits's sock; you two said the same thing
2

Yep, you totally caught me. Congratulations.

Anonymous
\o/

If @Geobits had a son, @Seadrus would be it.

I have been ousted.

2:47 AM
> it

I guess I can request that account be deleted now that I've been found out ;)
4

> it

Anonymous
< ti

Haha, but why would I want to do that? :P

@Doorknob, can you handle that for me?

2:48 AM
@Doorknob Nevermind, you're probably too busy.

> handle
4
puns :D

Anonymous
It'll be nice when the star abusers run out of stars
9

@Geobits You're such a downer.

You're just now figuring that out? :P

^ the rare and elusive Geobit emote

2:50 AM
It's not that rare

Rare? Elusive?

Anonymous
3 mins ago, by Seadrus
Haha, but why would I want to do that? :P

@Mego He thinks he can get away with it there.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ ...do a chat search for :P said by Geobits.

2:51 AM
:P
@El'endiaStarman I know, ~10k results

Hey, I have a condition where my tongue hangs down sometimes. That's not an emote, and it's kinda rude to point it out like that.

(My doctor worries about me.)

The ;) is a twitch developed a couple years ago, so don't count that either.

(My mother worries about me.)

My doppleganger is about to be ignored, which I've never done to anyone. Congrats.

2:53 AM
o-o
You can ignore people?

@Seadrus Yes

Huh.

Anonymous
@Seadrus Click on username, hit ignore. Massively useful for annoying people.

Cool!

Anonymous
2:54 AM
Why do you ask?

whoops
How can I un-ignore someone?

Anonymous
Same way

Their username disappeared.

Anonymous
They'll still be a small square in the userlist to the upper right

erm
I ignored everybody
;-;

2:56 AM
...
silence at last
3

@Seadrus Why.

@SuperJedi224 I don't think he heard you :P

Anonymous
Luckily, if you ignore everybody, you can still see starred messages. Click the avatars in the userlist on the upper right to un-ignore people. (star this so he can see)

wait no
don't do that

> Gee, sure is quiet in here. Where's everybody?

2:58 AM
It's quiet in here finally!

Anonymous
> It's quiet. Too quiet...

i look to the starboard for some sign of life beyond the stars...

I forgot he can still talk :P

@ThomasKwa Hi

yo @SuperJedi224

2:59 AM
hey look a voice
