A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

MegaTomMulti-File Code Golf: Tic-Tac-Toe This is a new challenge Idea. Multi-File Code Golf. The idea is to write your golfed code in more than one file, and your score is the size of the largest file. Challenge You must write a text based tic-tac-toe playing environment. Output should look like this...

How has everyone separated their code up into tetrominoes in the Jumblers vs. Rebuilders challenge? I've tried with mine but it seems extremely difficult...

Beta DecayEven Google gets things wrong! code-golf Introduction For those who don't know, Google Books is a project by Google where books are scanned and the words are processed via OCR (optical character recognition). Sometimes, though, these words are recognised wrongly. For example: "GOVEBS YOUE ...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Sp3000Triangular battleships (A computational geometry problem) You are the captain of a battleship. The engineering department's been cutting corners with designs this year, so the ship you're on takes the shape of a simple triangle. You walk out onto the deck and enjoy the sea breeze... though not ...

3:41 PM
@BetaDecay I printed mine, drew boundaries with pen, then typed them all in, blacking out each piece as I typed it. Then I printed it again to check the pieces against the grid to make sure I didn't typo. Yes, it was a pain :P

@Geobits Oh wow! I'm glad I went for just Os now :)

I have a small query about the crossword challenge: codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/40304/code-crosswords
If I explicitly stated that none of the solutions contain whitespace
and someone submits a valid (I think) answer which does contain whitespace
what do I do?
@Calvin'sHobbies

wait, did you?
oh
damn
that breaks a large part of my solution

the solution seems valid and there wasn't anything in the rules about it, so i'm not sure what to do
sorry...

4:08 PM
added a note about that to my post as well as an explanation of all the solutions
I'll try to eliminate some spaces later, but if Calvin's Hobbies says my solution is invalid I'm not allowed to submit another one :/

4:43 PM
I'm sure we've had a previous question on tag systems, but I can't find it. Anyone?

@PeterTaylor I hadn't heard of them until the challenge today.

I have a distinct memory of looking at that Wikipedia page and comparing the step-by-step calculations it shows with a GolfScript program I was working on.

5:00 PM
hm maybe the author of that didn't use the term?
maybe it was on anarchy golf or somewhere else?

@professorfish The spec says "You must use the same exact programming language as the crossword was given in, but otherwise any solution that matches all the clues is valid.", so yes, Martin has solved it.
It would be unfair to expect the robbers to get the exact same solution when there may be many possible.
I know you said more whitespace but that should be thought of as a hint, not a restriction.

5:20 PM
I know how to make 1+1==3.
Here is the code in C#:
        string s1 = "1", s2 = "1";
        string s = s1 + s2;
        int i = Convert.ToInt32(s, 2);
I have a challenge in mind about this, have there been similar ones in the past?
Hi, @Doorknob!
I noticed we have a plan to clean out the sandbox.
Sort of.

Q: Write a program that makes 2 + 2 = 5

qwrWrite a program that seemingly adds the numbers 2 and 2 and outputs 5. This is an underhanded contest. Your program cannot output any errors. Watch out for memory holes! Input is optional. Redefining 2+2 as 5 is not very creative! Don't doublethink it, try something else.

6:13 PM
OK, I thought there was something similar.
My idea was to have any 2*n output 2*n+1.
Or maybe anything but 2*n, no hardcoding allowed - preferably a random number each time with 100% probability that 2*n does not output 2*n.
These * keep almost messing my comments up.

I posted a question in the sandbox two months ago : meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/1982/10619
I had no positive or negative feedbacks, the I posted my question to the main website and finally people comment that the rules are unclear. :|

8:08 PM
@A.L sorry, but that happens every now and then. if you feel your proposal is being ignored, it's usually a good idea to remind people about it in here before posting it. not on weekends though, there's barely anyone here.

A.L
I agree that the rules were unclear (and may still be), but that's frustrating to see that even if I took my time and left my question 2 months in the sandbox nobody cared before I posted it to the main page.

8:30 PM
I have vague memories of discussing it. Are you sure it wasn't discussed in the chat room?

I thought I'd seen some talk about it, too. I was surprised when I looked at it in the sandbox just now and it didn't have comments.

I posted the first version on May 31: meta.codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/2140/… (deleted answer) there was no example at this time

Is there a gold badge for X number of 0 rep days ?
I feel like there should be one
(at least a silver)

A.L
Optimizer : it would benefit more to the users who added no or poor questions or answers
I think badges were invented to award good users, not the ones who don't give to the community

there are many badges for bad things
constantly getting low or no votes
0 vote question/answer
also, there is this visit this site for 100 days badge too

A.L
"0 vote question/answer" for me it's more a "I'm not lucky" badge, and I guess it won't be awarded if the question is closed

A.L
This one is really rare on Code Golf :)
<advertisement> I created a website to view how badges are more or less awarded on SE: truebadges.com/sites/codegolf/</advertisement>;

10:14 PM
@A.L Just some tips for your site: Sort things so they are grouped by relatedness.
For example, have the list of sites be alphabetical, and the badges listed either from gold to bronze or vice-versa.

10:26 PM
oops, the link was broken: truebadges.com/sites/codegolf
@hosch250: badges are ordered from popular to rare ones, I think it's the core function of the website to order badges in this way. But I will see if I can add some jQuery to allow the user to re-order the tables by column

OK.
Are the sites ordered by most popular too?

A.L
More or less, since the sites with more badges are probably the most popular ones
