Hmm, lots of not-so-good quality questions recently for some reason -_-

@m.buettner I cannot require everyone to create a chatroom to test their bot, because creating a chatroom requires 100 rep, and talking in chat only 20 rep. If the chatroom would be flooded by testing stuff, I can always make it a gallery chatroom when I do the official tests.

@Doorknob I've been noticing that as well :(
@ProgramFOX fair enough, I didn't think about the rep requirement

so i'm turning my terrain generating thingy into a full 3D terrain management system in c++
it also provides some tools for logic to do with terrain
and a texture generation engine ;333
well, that's my goal

4:28 PM
oh the ambition! :D
@Trimsty in fact, I'll be starting work on my third take on terrain generation today... (after 3D voxel-based terrain 3 years ago and height-map based terrain 2 years ago)... I'll be taking another step back and start by simply generating 2D maps for now ... no 3D rendering that requires any form of paging and stuff

4:55 PM
@m.buettner ah, awesome :D (sorry for late reply, was afk)
procedural generation chatroom dance
i'm downloading sdl2 atm, and reading through the docs
wanna be able to view my gens
wait, no
i'm gonna use glfw
i like how their error layer is called GLFWerrorfun

5:15 PM
eheh
having some gcc trouble
yay, it workededed

I'll probably be following this article for as long as I can be bothered and then see where to take from there
but yeah, I'll have to start with hacking together a bit of basic polygon rendering as well first, so I can actually visualise the data

nice ;D
now i just have to learn opengl

5:59 PM
glfw sucks so much
glfwPollEvents(); waits until you finish resizing the window
so i have to write a render function instead of putting it in the main loop
and also call the render function from the window resize callback
so much for DRY

I've never used anything but GLUT
(well freeglut, technically)

well, now it renders while you resize it as well, so i count that as a win
well, sorta, it doesn't call the render function if you're resizing but not actually moving it
>_<
is that even possible to fix?

I have no idea
stackoverflow will know
stackoverflow always knows

Bl
i'll go ask
though my last question about glfw went unanswered

Q: How to implement cross-platform custom window?

TrimstyOkay, so, I have a C++ project I'm working on. I've created my own custom window using Cairo (I realize Cairo might not be the best for this application but it makes a lot of tasks that my GUI needs to do easier). It controls the window size, minimizing and everything by itself, but when I creat...

^^'
wasn't even glfw specific

hm who knows

6:09 PM
i have no idea what to put in the 'question' box, lol

Render-callback stops when grabbing window's resize handle
or similar

Q: GLFW poll waits until window resize finished, how to fix?

TrimstyI'm working on a GLFW application and I noticed a problem when resizing the window. While the user is scaling the window, the glfwPollEvents() function waits until the user finishes. This means that, during the scaling of the window, the render function isn't called and horrible artifacts are cr...

added "how to fix?" because i was on Yahoo Answers when I was younger and they forced you to end questions with a question mark, the habit stayed

upvoted it, maybe that helps ;)

thanks :3 now i wait i guess
or i write my own opengl wrapper

because that's what sane people do.

6:20 PM
yes
yes it is

or is it? :P

;_;

there you go :P

6:42 PM
as always, i'm pondering the ioccc

what's stopping you?

i don't know c
lolol

lol
fair enough

i could implement a text-to-logic converter and a text-to-logictext converter and automagically put in comments so the code can generate a logic map for virtual bytes with arbitrary bases overflowing to simulate the modulus function and in turn generate another logic map that is capable of interpreting itself and

okay, I've stripped an old project of all the domain-specific pieces now and am left with my boilerplate renderer now... time draw some polygons... if you want to follow along github.com/mbuettner/midgard

6:45 PM
maybe some #defines? :P

2 hours later…
8:29 PM
okay the basic rendering is in place... now I can actually start with the cool stuff :)

yay ;DD
i've got bedtime now :c night

see you

@Doorknob How's the video editor?

Q: Does being on hold for more than a day have to be a kiss of death for a question?

steveverrillLooking through the questions today, I see, rather disappointingly, that of first 4 questions one is a duplicate and 3 are on hold and absolutely cannot be saved. But further down, I see this question, posted by a new user: Convert integer to string preserving order There was much discussion ab...

@Doorknob why can I not close vote with "off topic, belongs on code review"? the only migration-related close vote reasons are currently SO and meta.PPCG... could that be changed? (I've had the desire to close vote with reference to CR twice this weekend)

I think that's because we're still in beta. Just use a custom mod flag and a mod will migrate.
Perfect @iKlsR! :-D

man I still forget that flags are a thing
