you have been helped
... i completely forgot to start voting for the RO stuff, let's pretend it was always going to be utc 1am
@emanresuA suggest adding the nomination text into the voting answers
I'm just following older formats - besides we're trying to keep things compact here
and all the voting links were off by one because I was trying to be clever but can't count
wow there are apparently several seggan fans out there lol
its all part of my conspiracy to eventually take over every main chat roo - err, i mean im just popular
Hivemind at work, huh
01:15
I for one just want PLDI to take over
Also can one of y'all mods (@hyper-neutrino?) feature this and unfeature+lock the nominations post? (also did I trip any automatic flags by posting six answers in ten minutes?)
Do y'all use a Preview userscript for your chat Markdown?
@emanresuA (and 11 the New Posts message)
01:39
r/singularity has been strangely quiet since this dropped
@ATaco working on it :p
being in favour of the room owner addition process has always been part of the plan to expand the scope of my site
Gonna stuff the roster with pldi members

You're not just popular
You're Seggan

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

l4m2Given binary array X, decide if for each 0≤i<len(X), X[i] = X[(i + 2len(X)) mod len(X)]. Sandbox Notes This comes from puzzle where the array is the lamps. Should I use another equivalent expression than above?

@Ginger Happy to help if you have rust questions
@RubenVerg All of us can play both sides and we'll have no losers
09:02
well then there's no sides
which is a good thing I guess
I prefer to see it as an epic fantasy battle with everyone fighting on the same side against nothing
09:22
thank you, wikipedia
Where is that?
random article i was editing
So from the Switserland perspective the article is low importance, not the other way around
makes more sense
i love when software does that though, assigns a tag that means something else to novices that makes it seem like it's roasting you
DeadLock does that, it has a button on the main menu that says "Learn to play (recommended!)"
10:08
@RubenVerg the real winners here are the golflang creators who get more spaces where their languages can be advertised used :p
That's the side you want to be on :p
i guess i'm really playing all sides then

Q: Perfect ruler search

Sophia AntipolisDefinitions: A sparse ruler, or simply a ruler, is a strict increasing finite sequence of nonnegative integers starting from 0, called marks. A ruler is complete if the set of all distances it can measure is {1,2,3,...,k} for some integer k > 0. A ruler is perfect if it is complete, and no comple...

@mousetail'he-him' noted :p
the question is if real-time chat would even be useful for byte heist
and tbh yall could just use matrix
Since Discord exists, I don't really feel the need for a chat feature
fair
matrix my beloved etc etc
someday discord will finally collapse, and I'll be atop the rubble

Looking forward to it

politics.se with the topical HNQs
@NewPosts What does it mean if a ruler can measure certain distances?
att
att
I think distance between marks
@mousetail'he-him' pretty sure it has to do with actual RL rulers, as in, you could measure a distance of 2 units if the ruler has numbers that are 2 apart
15:19
oh dear
This happens all the time
Global vars and typescript never work properly, even if they are builtins
@Ginger i don't want to host three synapse instances on my server(:
though it's probably a better idea than rolling my own thing
15:35
@RubenVerg why host multiple? you can just host one, no?
one would be for normal stuff on rubenverg.com, a separate one for mautrix, and then a third one for golf together
my moderation tools:

@RubenVerg conduwuit better
@Ginger does it not use 1gb ram like synapse does?
could've hosted it on my pi if it didn't completely break
@RubenVerg tbh this feels like it should all be hosted on one instance
@Themoonisacheese i don't think i want golf together stuff on rubenverg.com nor other stuff of mine (tinyapl probably) on golf together
(golf together is eventually getting a domain)
mautrix idk if it plays nice with having normal accounts on the same homeserver?
assumed it'd be better to have a separate one
15:39
@RubenVerg yeah that works fine for me
do the created users have like a prefix?
@Themoonisacheese oh okay
the /synapse-admin user list is understandably filled with puppets but yes
@RubenVerg this is a mautrix-messenger user i.sstatic.net/kBMUg4b8.png
i have no particular reason to think this but it feels like separate instances would be better from a legal standpoint
@RubenVerg can't check because my VM is down, but it's pretty resource-light
talking about legality, i don't understand the docs for GDPR and synapse
15:43
i mean this becomes a matter of personal preference but i wouldn't think twice about it
like, do i have to do anything? do i have to provide like an email to accept requests to erase? does synapse have a button for that? do i put the email somewhere in synapse or do i have to host another site that lists that email?
all the docs say is "yeah so it's like emails so you wouldn't expect people that received the thing to not have it anymore" (which is kinda dubious tbh) but nothing about what I have to do to conform
@RubenVerg if the account is on the instance, users may delete their own account and that should wipe what is wipeable (not much). you may also delete users from url/synapse-admin if you have that installed
so i have to provide a way for people to ask me to do that
A contact me link would probably be enough
also:
> When does the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) not apply?

> The GDPR does not apply if:

> the data subject is dead
> the data subject is a legal person
> the processing is done by a person acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, or profession
15:50
oh
that's probably helpful
is this your trade, business or profession? i'm pretty sure it is not
sure isn't(:
the point would still stand if you eventually start doing this as your job though, say your site becomes a global sensation overnight and users are throwing money at you, then you would have to reconsider
yeah of course
not like that'll happen anytime soon(:
that's what i said about my minecraft proxy and then i got to do tech support for 2b2t players (derogatory) for 2 years
15:56
😭😭😭😭
also it got blamed for a hack that didn't actually happen and was in fact just a facade to conceal a more powerful, more secret hack
Finding the balance between wanting to build something proper and professional and but also not wanting a second job is real
my problem is that everything that i make well, i make it because it solves a problem i have, so people that use it have the same problems i do and, like, i've been there
and nobody helped me! that's the entire reason i made the thing! who am i if not a tyrant if i don't help them?
(this is, it turns out, entirely fallacious but y'know)
to solve this, i've taken the very good and cool option of simply not making more things
I feel like I usually find the another product that does exactly what my solution as trying to solve, right after I build my own inferior version
16:05
that too
Shout out to the worst podcast player in existence: alyceosbourne.github.io/cast/# (By me and a friend). We joked you could make en entire podcast series about all the bugs in this player

@mousetail'he-him' better than youtube music
(yours supports rss)
still mad that they killed google podcasts
17:09
@emanresuA it is done
ignore me locking the wrong post by accident
18:05
Thanks!
18:17
my pi apparently started working again so golf together is once again available (with https!) here
how long will it work again? no idea
@hyper-neutrino uh could you also unfeature the nominations post
18:34
I've just had a terrible idea
lets hear it
18:49
@emanresuA it is also done
thanks
18:59
yep, this is the worst
I call it Stack Roulette
okay but what is the idea
im still confused
wait I can make it work for network sites too
@Wezl chatrooms have different themes depending on their parent site, this userscript selects a random one every time the page loads
i mean it looks good
unless you pick scifi.se
19:37
what on earth is this theme lol
who here has the s.data.replace error spam issue? I'm gonna write up a meta post
can those who do set a breakpoint on the erroring code and tell me what s is
@Ginger is that christianity or am i stupid
christianity golf and coding challenges
AAA GIS SE IS SO UGLY
ough
apparently gis stands for garish imagery stackexchange
19:44
got CR third time already
still waiting for PLDI
PLDI uses the default theme
which I think I added

Lots of Enthusiastic voting in the Election
Glad to see it
22:11
It goes against our policies to require the input to be a linked list (which is not randomly accessible), right?
@DannyuNDos Requiring input to be a specific structure is advised against, and maybe unobservable.
But X/Y problem, why is it required anyway?
'Cause I wonder if Haskell can shuffle it in linear time.
That somehow has me more confused as to what you're doing
In general, shuffling a linked list goes like this: Move the entries into a contiguous array, apply Fischer-Yates, and move them back.
Haskell can do this thanks to FFI, but I'd like to see a more "native" solution.
But why would our policies matter for that?
22:20
'Cause 1. Requiring answers to be a specific language is a bad idea, and 2. As you pointed out, the requirement on the input is unobservable.
Oh, you want to write it as a challenge
Finally got Function Overloading working in Brainchild

22:50
I think linked list input should be enforceable

Oh wait, I can generalize this like "Find the robot masters of your language!"

God, I've been here for ages :P
oh that means i missed my 4 years
that's concerning
