10:07 PM
imagine using the CGCC main site

Imagine not browsing CGCC through brainwaves sent to your router

Oh right I forgot you did that
Do you happen to have a tutorial on how to do that? My university's wifi is a bit spotty so I'd like to access sites telepathetically

10:32 PM
@user If you're like me, you'll just replace CGCC with something less productive.

@user Idk, managed to do it once I hit 42069 rep

I've realized that I don't waste time on CGCC or YouTube or whatever because it's distracting me, but because I'm just not motivated to work on productive stuff anyway. Forcing myself to work on it just doesn't really do anything, and CGCC's a better use of my time than like, rereading a hundred xkcds or staring at a wall.
Either that or my brain just found a really convenient excuse for not doing work

lol
That's kinda true for me too but it has also been distracting me from work. I'm also just not that interested in code golf anymore (or right now, at least, maybe I'll come back to it later)

I suspect you will, I've spent my entire time here bouncing between "Uninteresting" and "Give me all the code golf I can get"

^ lol
I'm currently trying to become the seventh marshal

10:44 PM
Flagging is good

@user surprising /s

I believe in you emanresu, you will be a mod one day

Just realised I may have singlehandedly caused the election
6
@user I'm 14, give it a while :p

@user What's happening there?

Ngl, before the mod election was announced, I was slowly going for Marshal, but it's no longer a priority for me, for some reason :P

10:45 PM
"Teen engineers election, then fraudently wins it"

@emanresuA Next election after this one, Redwolf. One after that, you :P

lmao sometimes I wonder if there are more underage users here than not

i'd say it's the fact that math is regarded as objective so disagreements aren't a matter of opinion but right and wrong, plus smart people often get into quarrels over... many things :P

Unlikely

@forest Nothing, one person's answer got one downvote and then they started screaming that the moderators were 'bulling" them

10:46 PM
math.se especially chat still gets into way more drama than i'd expect though but you just get used to it lmao

lol

@hyper-neutrino I feel like the right and wrong bit would cause fewer disagreements
"X is true!" "No it isn't, here's a proof" "Ok"

@emanresuA nah i helped too by being busy and not clearing flags as quickly as i once could

If I woke up one morning to learn that Math.SE had started a literal war after someone assassinated the archduke of set theory over the way a flag was handled I'd be like, only moderatley surprised
9

@RadvylfPrograms You're ready to be a moderator already

10:48 PM
@user well, some things surrounding math are subjective still and also i should've disclaimed that i pulled that explanation out of my ass lol

Eww :P

Honestly the only thing that'd make me hesitate to run for mod is having to babysit the math chat rooms when no-one else is online :p

You just pretend you're not offline either

i should go check out the mod election announcement. i'm on vacation so i actually have not seen it yet :P

But yeah, handling people is so hard

10:49 PM
My guess for why Math.SE is so angry all the time is:
1. It's too big for a tight knit community like we have, but too small for the near total anonymity of SO
2. If you're active on Math.SE you probably don't get much practice of friendly social interaction

The second one seems very likely lol
I hate the socially awkward nerd stereotype but...there is a nugget of truth to it

Plus there's also a much larger gap between beginners and experts than other subjects I think

2 would also explain why discord drama is so prevalent and overblown :P

My parents aren't home i'mma go make some cookies o/

Can I have one?

10:52 PM
I've never seen people with such sensitive egos in person, so I guess the fact that we're online means that there's going to be like 5 of those sort of people among the thousands of normal people on that site but those 5 make it seem like that sort of drama is normal

@hyper-neutrino Not sure if you mods have something different, but we haven't actually gotten an announcement beyond WW showing up and dropping the news :P
@RadvylfPrograms Man, why did you remind me of this? Now I have 2 reasons not to run for mod :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing ah - well i haven't seen that either lol
tbf it's not like i didn't already know cuz i literally discussed it in the mod chat before i left :P so ig all i'd get from it is details like the question collection deadline or w/e

Oh yeah, when's that going to be posted?

@hyper-neutrino HOW'S ABOUT I BRING SOME OF OUR DRAMA HERE?!
4
WHA'CHU' GONNA DO 'BOUT IT?!
:P

Nooo it's the bully :P

11:05 PM
@XanderHenderson Shame you can't kick-mute mods :/

Watch it, nerd, unless you enjoy atomic wedgies. :P
@cairdcoinheringaahing Aw... :(
:P

@XanderHenderson ...is that different from a normal wedgie?

Can we delay this argument for about a month? :P

@user Yes. An atomic wedgie goes over your forehead.

I see. I will do my best to forget this now

11:07 PM

4 weeks? Hah, school's already started :P

@cairdcoinheringaahing inorite?
I've already been teaching for two weeks.
I need to write an exam this weekend. :(

Damn :/
I haven't even gone back to uni yet

Uni here starts on the 26th

11:10 PM
like, uniformly?

for all of them? wow
that does sound very convenient for a lot of things

Basically. A couple of them start earlier IIRC, but otherwise
The week beginning the 19th is basically a national holiday, called "Freshers", where all the incoming students spend a week drowning in alcohol. Most unis plan around that

D: We can't do that until 21

11:15 PM
@user for a moment I read flag as finger and got really confused

kid named flag

"Waltuh, put your chat flags away Waltuh. I'm not having a debate in a math chat room right now Waltuh"

@XanderHenderson oh hey, nice to see you here - i mean, ALRIGHT YOU WANNA SEE HOW THAT GOES FOR YOU?
:P

@RadvylfPrograms thirded :p

@hyper-neutrino Heh.
Okay, now that I have harassed you, I am going to kick/mute myself. :D
Sorry... I specifically came into this channel to start a comment.
Then forgot to do that.
Okay, now I'm gone.

11:22 PM
> channel

*smoke bomb*

@lyxal Hey, while I know it's likely that I will get the position if I run for it, I would like to ask that people hold of on a lot of saying that I'll be the next mod. While I'd very much like (and hope) to be, I worry that it might discourage other people to run, and I would like anyone who is interested in running for mod to feel like they're able to do so.
Plus, it's started to feel a little bit uncomfortable for me after the first few jokes

CMQ: The author of this has been forcing everything newer than the challenge (i.e. 2/3 of languages) to be marked as non-competing. Should we:
- Leave it alone
- Override it
- Repost the challenge

Override it.
> Last seen more than a week ago
Definitely override it

...come to think of it we should probably also post a better canonical prime factorization challenge
considering that one's been a dupe target but has shitty formatting requirements

11:28 PM
@Joey I accidentally spilled some coffee over my quantum computer, and my friend is using his to "hack into the US Government" or something unimportant, so, no. :( — Mateen Ulhaq May 3, 2011 at 5:59

wut

Oh no, here comes forest to give a lecture on how quantum computers can't be used to magically hack stuff :P

@user Well, they can't. Quantum computers use magick, not magic.

Q: Code-Golf: Permutations

zxul767Write a function that takes as input a set of integers (can be a list, array or any other container with distinct numbers), and outputs the list of all its permutations. Python (95 chars): p=lambda s:s and sum(map(lambda e:map(lambda p:[e]+p,p(filter(lambda x:x!=e,s))),s),[]) or [[]] It'd be n...
