3:00 AM
@Lyxal how's the deadly animals in australia?

oh yea, remember i have the best domain to host a minecraft server on, if anyone's interested

@Lyxal do you have a ground harness?

No, the gravity's just wonky here

@Lyxal Yeah, you should come here!
(can anyone help me out with Texas stereotypes?)

<whisper>I could talk about them all day at extreme length</whisper>

3:01 AM
@user it's really, really bad tbh

<whisper>Talk about how cool it is that texas has been owned by six countries</whisper>

@Lyxal (any tips?)
Texas is pretty cool, it's been owned by six countries!

don't you hate it when you see a dead possum on the ground

<whisper>Mention that it was an independent state with the governor being my second cousin</whisper>

@RedwolfPrograms yeah, I remember learning about this in school!
@Lyxal how's university?

3:02 AM
Great! I um...did school things!

and when there are 6 inch long spiders all over the suburb

Did you know the governor of Texas (back when it used to be an independent state) was my second cousin?

@Lyxal <whisper>You're doing a bachelor of software engineering</whisper>

I'm getting a bachelor's degree in software engineering, need 69 more credits to graduate
That equates to around 420 hours btw

i genuinely cannot tell if this is a masterpiece
or a trainwreck

3:04 AM
Are you guys back to normal now?

Yesn't

@Lyxal It is

@Lyxal woah only 10 weeks left :D

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yeah

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes

3:04 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing *agreement*

The pfp thing was a bit much, even for me

@Lyxal same, it got too confusing

i have my doubts

@Lyxal does this mean I now have double ping powers?

for one, you (we) haven't said frick in the last 10 messages

3:05 AM
Oh frick I haven't

(no, i don't get pinged, it just shows up as green)

I'm sorta confused why there's two lyxal's right now

@Lyxal Why is your primary parent site Stack Apps?

cuz js is good

<whisper>@user By the way, if you want stereotypes, your people like crabs and lobsters</whisper>

3:07 AM
@RedwolfPrograms <whisper>understood</whisper>

Posted a asking to remove auto-protection on main (cause we don't have it on meta thanks to the Sandbox)
Hello World got reprotected earlier and it reminded me how annoying watching for Community protection can be

I have a sickening feeling that in a few days I'm going to get really tired of this and I'm going to hate myself for the next month.

Yesn't

this is why you do name changes like the OGs

@Lyxal <whisper>You're missing out on making name jokes right now</whisper>

3:09 AM
@RedwolfPrograms You're not going to hate yourself, you're going to be Redwolf!

@Lyxal How are you changing names so often?

@cairdcoinheringaahing (big clue)
@RedwolfPrograms ^

@Lyxal Of course :/

Hang on I have to go for a minute

it's ok
ill fill in the void
i mean, frick

3:10 AM
Nice, you're like an Uno wildcard or a spare tire in case any of us ever leave

@RedwolfPrograms Change your name on a different site, then reassociate your chat's parent account

@cairdcoinheringaahing Oh that's smart

I'm big brain I changed mine for all sites

ASCII-only thought of it, I just explained it :P

@Lyxal cf this

3:12 AM
HN changed mine for me so I don't even know what's happened to my other accounts

back in 2016 or something this was... common enough, i think

@RedwolfPrograms i saved to all like last time

Oh ok
This is going to cause problems on SO, I can feel it

@hyper-neutrino Dark theme pfp :D

I barely use SO anyway

3:12 AM
whenever you guys want to go back, i can swap your usernames all back

@hyper-neutrino I'm gonna hold for at least a month

@hyper-neutrino That sounds like an abuse of your powers (not that that wouldn't be nice, but)

@user Do you happen to invest in GME? ;P

@RedwolfPrograms it technically kind of is, lol. granted, people have had their usernames changed on request by mods before

@cairdcoinheringaahing I'm too broke sorry

3:14 AM
Invest in Dogecoin!

@RedwolfPrograms If the user wants it, and it's not a massive thing, I think it's fine

Aight, just making sure
Back to Ash for me, bye

o/

this somewhat messes with the election thread, lol. if i change it, people might vote for the wrong person thinking it's by the old ID. if i don't change it, it's wrong, and people who click on the chat/site profile links might get confused

True

3:16 AM
But the votes are pretty much done anyway

@hyper-neutrino just add their current pfp and username as a note

> I won't change my username and avatar in the near future.
The incident proves why ^ is a pro

Hey all--thinking about answering my first question. Anyone have a minute for a few basic site-questions? Or is there a better place to ask?

Sure!

@Lyxal i cant tell whether you're still in lyxal mode

3:19 AM
It's on codegolf.stackexchange.com/q/223439 (REPAIR THE KEYBOARD)

There's a welcome page for asking, too

@Lyxal Lyxal mode?

@user yea like in vim. there's probably a vyxal shill mode somewhere

The answers need to provide a program in a language per line which would return the character. (If I'm reading correctly.) Does it look like it'd be possible to use an interpreted language with an invocation argument?

Oh hang on that's the asking welcome page I linked

3:21 AM
@nitsua60 As in like a command line flag?

(Specifically: cubically would need an argument when run to create a cube large enough for its faces to possibly sum to the required ascii codes.)

Sure, that'd be fine

@cairdcoinheringaahing I believe so. (Honestly, I'm only half an hour into having met cubically.)

If it's used for all, just mention "These all use the -A flag" (or whatever)

@cairdcoinheringaahing Cool. Thanks.

3:23 AM
If different ones use different flags, then go into more detail about which use what, but otherwise you should be fine to use them

or you can add it in the language name in the heading (if it's used for all)

nice tip ^^

And someone could always just clear it up with an edit if it wasn't formatted right

Usually an answer using flags are written with a header like "Cubically + -A, xx bytes"

@nitsua60 Cubically is a pretty cool language (created by one of the users here, MD XF)

3:24 AM
Yeah, I was more wondering if it'd even be allowed by the challenge.

Unless it says otherwise, we allow command line flags be default

@Bubbler or just Cubically -A

Yeah, both are fine

Using them means it's "technically" a different language for the purpose of competing (e.g. "Cubically -3" vs "Cubically -4"), but that has no practical effect on using them
Man, NMetaP is slow :/

post the link yourself. nothing will go wrong, NMP will definitely not post immediately after

3:27 AM
Thanks. Now to try and find short move-sequences to arbitrary 5x5x5 cube-states. I know how I'm spending my weekend =\

@hyper-neutrino And it definitely won't get starred to preserve the event for all history :P

@hyper-neutrino pf course not, it's always some weird post about NMetaP gaining sentience

I would love for someone to post "Is NMetaP sentient?" To meta, post it in chat after an hour and immediately get sniped by NMetaP :P

Being Lyxal isn't as fun as I thought it'd be tbh

@Lyxal i found a guide online for fun things to do when you're pretending to be someone else here :P

3:30 AM
@Lyxal Is this Lyxal having an existential crisis, or Redwolf pretending to be Lyxal?

I don't even know anymore

who's Lyxal

I'm Lyxal

For a second there, I thought you were a third Lyxal

Yesn't
Also when Ash

3:32 AM
i should change my pfp too

I should become linux tech tips

Can I ask a basic TIO question?

It's not obvious to me how to provide TIO the invocation argument. Here's a little cubically program. How do I run it having specified a 4x4x4 cube? (Here's the relevant cubically documentation, at "multiple sizes".)

@nitsua60 just put -f in the arguments like this

3:43 AM
ninja'd :( typing on phone is hard

aah... tyvm!
Okay. Now I know how I'm spending my weekend.

lol, have fun :P

@nitsua60 be careful it doesnt become how you're spending your entire year :p

now use charcoal

Finding shortest move-sequences to achieve an arbitrary face-state on a 5x5x5 cube, using only a restricted set of the possible moves? Shouldn't be too hard :sarcastic_goblin:

3:51 AM
Hmm, so we don't quite have a consensus on allowing/disallowing mouse interaction in programs, just this

@Bubbler in that case id think it defaults to disallowed?

Having a consensus might be nice. I think it's pretty self-explanatory in most cases; in this case, this is obviously not valid, so I've removed it.

@Lyxal I wanted to say that, but I'm reluctant to fight against a user actively arguing they are correct

i think it'd be better to have a more general consensus on whether user input to help a program along should be allowed?

@Lyxal im sorry to hear that. perhaps you need to embrace it more

4:00 AM
Actually I can think of one way to measure mouse interaction in bytes: measure the number of bytes sent from the mouse driver to the OS
though it is in no way standardizable
I suspect that it is pretty large enough to discourage use of mouse interaction in submissions though

@Bubbler i still think it should be disallowed completely given that part of the program is now in the form of mouse movement that the user must now do while "running" the program

a language is defined by implementation and as such unless you have an interpreter that can accept mouse commands as bytes somehow and run that as code it doesn't make sense
there might be edge cases where this could be up to intepretation and thus might need a meta discussion but this isn't one of them IMO

@hyper-neutrino That's a good argument I guess

@hyper-neutrino exactly this - this is why we have that weird text scratch thing and those text forms of zachlikes

4:46 AM

Q: Can we disable auto-protection?

caird coinheringaahingCurrently, the system protects any challenge that either: Has 3 deleted answers from new users Has multiple answers from new users within a short amount of time We already have a policy that basically says "99.99% of questions here do not need to be protected". In short, we encourage answering ...

Q: Improving Bounty Reasons

hyper-neutrinoHow could the bounty reasons be improved? has been status-review for four years now. I think we should have this discussion again, since nothing really seemed to happen from the last one, and we can take a look into whether we should change anything and status-completed it or if we decide there i...

@user Stack based would be the easiest to implement. We probably want 10 users for digit literals - Who can you think of?

@NewMetaPosts took you long enough

@Ausername we could use people with numbers in their username

True - I'll have a look

@Lyxal <whisper>it's more fun when there's an active conversation</whisper>
@Ausername 0, 1, 4, 5 and 9

5:04 AM
@user I can use 79037662 for 7.
@user And maybe NotANumber for NaN?

Good idea

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Manish KunduYou are kinda Replacable to Me You are provided with an array \$A\$ of integers, all greater than 0. But what good is an array if the elements do not sum up to the number \$N\$ (also provided as input)... So to change that, you can pick any integer of your choice present in the array and replace ...

5:41 AM
@user [Implemented the new numbers](cgcc-user.surge.sh). It also compiles a program string, but doesn't do anything with it yet. I'll add an interpreter once I've finalised everything to use.

deadcode (i.stack.imgur.com/U6GWq.jpg?s=42&g=1) should be end of execution/exit/halt
unrelated string (lh6.googleusercontent.com/-SaPrY09tpf4/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGI/…) should be the string delimiter

I have those two already - will add.

wait what do I do lol

function delimiter
lambda function

5:46 AM
heck you're the inspiration

oh lol :D
now i can't change my pfp :P (not that i was planning to though)

That's because λ delimits lambdas in a certain golfing language

Adding HyperNeutrino as well
@user What do you want to be?

@Ausername not sure yet

should i keep my dark pfp or go back to light

5:49 AM
pxeger (the light bulb) should be regular expressions
because pxeger backwards is regexp

@user Oh yes
That's all I can think of, bye for now.

o/

6:06 AM
@user You guys are making a User language?

correct!

I gonna use it for golfing if it's finished
That is exciting

have you decided what you're calling it yet?
if not, might i suggest UserScript :P
7

7:07 AM
How are we even going to score it?
It's currently a graphical language
And idk how to convert to bytes

7:23 AM
scoring won’t be the matter, just another golf lang
Or else Jelly will also be a serious matter
character is small image. In the other word, we just created a new language both on code and on culture

@user unicode codepoint corresponding to chat user id, obviously
@okie without a scoring method, it won't be a valid submission though

1 byte per pic?

doable but boring

length of User name?

7:40 AM
@hyper-neutrino my vote's for the light one but mostly because it's more readable for me lmao

7:58 AM
wait
@user I should be the string terminator, but ascii-only should start strings

can i be something okie-ish
Should UserScript have exception

codegolf.stackexchange.com/a/101782/80214 udioica be like "Hmm today I will outgolf V in Vim"

@UnrelatedString who is this ascii only you speak of?

@user It's compiled to bytes - the graphics are only for show.

8:13 AM
I will be the string split function

So really we could choose any arbitrary stack language and just make a trivial substitute? Or are we actually innovating a new language?

@okie Define okie-ish. Your choice, although digit literals, function delimiters, string delimiters and regex delimiters have been taken. You could be some useful function like GCD.

I have an idea that could be innovative: you can push users onto the stack and then do calculations with them

lol

And users can give bounties to each other too

8:15 AM
What
How would that even work

is a bounty a function parameter?

Like user objects
You could match their attributes against stuff too
Each item on the stack is like a 4 register thinf
*thing

Maybe - I have no real idea how to implement it...

What language are we using to implement userscript?

Probably Javascript, since that's what I've done so far, and most other languages don't have good image handling.
(HTML/CSS/Javascript actuall
y
)

8:19 AM
Then you just create an object with attributes
Does js have classes?

Yes

what in the name of cursed

Ok, will work on it. What attributes should a user have?

Reputation, username, number of answers, number of questions
Oh and number of people reached

Also you're Lyxal, so who is @Lyxal?

8:22 AM
Check the room owner voting post
There's two btw

no way

@Lyxal What?
Also, caird should be the add new user command
That would be fitting seeing as how he has a focus on welcoming new users

So... Redwolf is Lyxal, Lyxal is user, and user is Redwolf??? This is confusing me.

wait
so you need image manip right

no

8:26 AM
pyth has image manip
use pyth

(removed)

@Razetime yuck.
Don't use pyth for a web interpreter and esolang
That wouldn't be fun
Well I have to go use Scala for a bit
o/

guess what also has image manip
js (canvas)

@Lyxal meh
golfang cooler

japt moment

8:32 AM
japt has js eval but no direct canvas commands
ESMin does have canvas commands but nobody uses or maintains it

@user Any point in badges?

8:59 AM
Yeah there could be some point
I mean, it could be a tuple set on creation that can't be modified later

9:26 AM
So we have caird as Create user. Who do you think for input and output?
We also need some people for command delimiters / useful large numbers / basic math functions (+-/*%, along with exponent, maybe gcd and hcf, sqrt). I'll see who I can find.

1 hour later…
10:45 AM
@Ausername redwolf for input and Lyxal for output
Wasif can be for if statements
6
No points for guessing why

Ok yes.

Who do you think for comparison (less than / equal to / greater than)

Dennis

for accessing a user's rep

@user Do you think that's ever going to come up?

@Ausername probably not but it wouldn't make sense otherwise

True, but for some of these we're going to need to take arbitrary users that are unrelated to what we're using them for.
Also I added some more constants:
640KB for 640
Antony-256 for 256
math for PI
1000 for 1000.

Shouldn't easy as pi be pi?

True, but then what could math be?

10:58 AM
Math digraphs (two picture math commands)

Ok. Anyone else?

downgoat can be decrement
Potential candidate for numeric literal 8: codegolf.stackexchange.com/users/41042/cyoce

Sure, I just had a user called Eight as 8 but that works much better.

night 2 can be n squared (n ** 2)
chance for, well, random number generation
I think that's it for now

For chance, like float between 0 and 1, or integer between two numbers?

11:07 AM
@Ausername between two numbers.
Hey what are you going to do?
Some sort of logical comparison?

Username access.
Or are you doing that?

No I'm output
(at least I will in a month)
;)

Wait so what's the real user (pretending to be Redwolf) doing then?

this is very confusing

@rak1507 what is?
@Ausername I don't know yet.

11:11 AM
the name changes

Aw dang you know.
Ah well

The real user has 7-8k rep. You have 13k .

Shhh

11:30 AM
@user Given the origin of my username, shouldn't I be string compression? :P

Tell me how tf you're gonna compress strings with pictures.

I guess caird could be delimiter for compressed string - I can just borrow Arnauld's decompresser.
@user The pictures themselves are just symbolic.
It gets compiled into a string.

So which users are letters?

I guess everyone except unrelated string - They can all represent different characters in strings. I can just steal Jelly's string compression, using a similar tactic but with a different base alphabet.
minus for subtraction
