Q: Find the longest snake on a grid

BubblerBackground A snake is a path over the cells of a square grid, such that it doesn't touch itself on a side of a unit square. Touching at a corner is allowed. An example snake: ##.#. .#.## ##..# #.### ###.. Some example non-snakes: ###.# #.#.# ##### .#... .#### ### .#. ## ## Challenge Gi...

Q: How to ask for a parser

Dannyu NDosRefer to this challenge in Sandbox. My major language is Haskell. In Haskell, a parser (type ReadS) is a function that inputs a String and outputs a list of a tuple of the parsed element and the remaining string (ReadS a = String -> [(a,String)]). When the list is empty, there is no parse. When ...

Q: Generate a valid Windows 95 OEM Key

CocoaBeanIntroduction Windows 95 used a very simple algorithm for verifying license keys. The scheme of an OEM license key always looked like this: xxxyy-OEM-NNNNNNN-zzzzz The day can be anything within 001-366, and the year cannot be lower than 95 or above 03. xxx represents the day of the year the ...

is there any way to transpose a sparse (CSR) matrix in-place?

@Anush That should be trivial no? For every element, simply exchange the x and y coordinates. Or am I misunderstanding?

@Adám I think you are missing the compressed representation. Your method would be really really slow

@Anush Why? Doesn't every value (except those on the diagonal) need to be moved?

@Adám yes but changing a single value is linear time

@Anush Ah, right I did miss the C.

coding question in Python: I have a list dates and I have a list of lists A = [[30, 85, 101], [30, 101], [30, 85, 101], [30, 101], [30, 101]] I would like to replace all the numbers i by dates[i]
I feel there is a list comprehension to do this
but how??

@Anush just [[dates[i] for i in c] for c in A]?

oh thanks!
I don't know why that confused me so much

@Anush Come to APL land and you can have dates[A].

@Adám unfortunately not, A can't be a matrix

@dzaima Ah, I didn't notice that it was ragged. Ugh.

7:25 PM
dzaima/APL: A⊇ᐵdates

That's not general for all structures. ⊇∘dates⍢∊A

@Adám eh, sure. I would assume the structure is constant though, and ⍢∊ would be unnecessarily complicated

@Adám :)

OK, mainstream APL can do ⊃∘dates¨¨A which is pretty much a direct translation of dzaima's Python code.
pick from dates for ¨ each of ¨ each of A.

@Neil QuadR, 23 bytes Try It Online!

@Adám hmm, should I restrict that to adjacent different letters?

@Neil That's make it a whole lot more involved. Good for main, I'd say.
@Neil The inverse is much more interesting: Take a "transposed" text and a word list, fix the text.
