@EriktheOutgolfer i could see it working here with some rephrasing, but it's not really a programming thing
he wants a fourier series, except the floor makes it a bit more interesting

1:06 AM
Got about 400ish instructions down. Decided to approach a few codegolf problems from this unimplemented experimental state. I dont think i intended to make such a tiny grid of asterisks.

10x10 grid of asterisks: I_Unsigned8bitC010 10100 I_Repeat2DSquareC 01010000

Equiv space: 4 1/8 bytes.
Also, semantics question: Is code allowed to take up only part of a byte, or do you have to round up

1:22 AM
https://codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/171943/sum-textsquare2
can be done with

I_Divisors
I_Square
I_Sum
I_IsPerfectSquare 0

Equiv space: 5 1/8 bytes.
almost ties with 05AB1E, but the fact I_IsPerfectSquare is dual purpose (Can be a check or a filter) and the fact it takes an extra bit makes it *slightly* larger. RIP.

@moonheart08 Policy is that you have to count the padding bytes

mk
If i wrote a parser on a system that used 1 bit RAM/Storage, could i count it in bits
what's kinda funny is that EPROMs and EEPROMS that address a bit at a time are still in production. You'd think there'd be 0 demand for em
There's even 1MB SRAM in production that uses 1 bit output. It's just flat out weird

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Filip HaglundPut +, -, * into 1 _ 2 _ 3 ... n to make the expression equal 0, for a given 3 <= n <= 30, and output the valid equation (0=1+2-3). Exactly one operator between each number. There exists some patterns, such as ((1-2)-(3-4))+((5-6)-(7-8))... and 1+((2-3)-(4-5))+(6-7). Maybe we can find patterns...

11:34 AM
@NewMainPosts Yes that can be turned into a valid challenge.
"Given an ASCII string, find the shortest representation of it"
Fourier transform. :/
Also it's inexact, so it's a bit harder.

Q: Is the Matrix Positive-Definite?

SEJPMIntroduction Today we're gonna take care of the bane of first-year linear algebra students: matrix definiteness! Apparently this doesn't yet have a challenge so here we go: Input A \$n\times n\$ symmetric Matrix \$A\$ in any convenient format (you may also of course only take the upper or the...

Q: Encode - Shuffle - Decode

Delfad0rChallenge Your task is to encode an integer as a string of ASCII characters, then successfully decode it after said string has been randomly shuffled. You will write two programs/functions, which will be referred to as Encoder and Decoder. Encoder Input: an integer \$n\$ in the range \$[0,2^...

A minimal Turing test (McCoy & Ullman, 2018): “Say one word that convinces us you're human.”

4:52 PM
@Calvin'sHobbies A couple years late, but Canvas, 8 bytes

@quartata Muahaha, that's the easiest way ever to write an AI that could pass a Turing test.
print("hmmm...."); time.sleep(5); print("Love")

@Calvin'sHobbies Canvas, 6 bytes

Frankly love is the least convincing one
"Moist" is definitely the winner IMO
Only a human would know intuitively how unpleasant it is

W W
Aardvark

...see that kinda works too because it subverts expectations

W W
4:56 PM
Only a human whould understand how beutiful the word Aarvark is

I don't know where boulevard came from

W W
I kind of want to play this minimal turing machine game.

Heheh
wonder if you could turn it into a KoTH

W W
yes I was thinking

Submissions would probably need to be secret though

W W
4:59 PM
hm yeah
Or the submissions are discriminators?

Some unholy CnR KoTH mixture

W W
And you need humans to run the koth

@WW I was thinking you'd write one of each
But

W W
Hm, yeah but there are porblem with the secret stuff

I'mma think about it

W W
5:00 PM
I know, two teams, robots and humans

Could be good

W W
On team makes bots to simulate robots
one team makes bots to be human
I don't think this idea is going to wkr
I like the idea of discriminators
We can solicit human word sumbissions and keep them secrete

Is there a meta post along the lines of "it is sufficient for code golf answers to provably work they don't actually have to yield the correct result on real hardware if eg numerical or runtime issues are a concern"?

6:35 PM
Sorry, misread your post

@quartata blows raspberry

Anyone's new chrome update completely broken?
I had to switch to safari to access any site -.-
God dammit chrome
Seriously - new tab won't work, whenever I type something into the search bar and hit enter it does nothing... what is happening?
This is outrageous - apparently I had to just close all of my old tabs and windows and completely restart chrome. And after that, if I go to History dropdown and click my tabs again, it freezes and crashes again! So guess I'll have to open 20+ tabs manually...

7:33 PM
R.I.P.

@JonathanAllan that's why I mentioned the "longer" version ;-)
I changed it even though it should have been obvious from the context as I then immediately referred to hex-digits. — Jonathan Allan 37 secs ago

@Quintec yes

7:51 PM
Could this be the day I switch to Opera? I sure hope not.
Treasonous thinking, I know.

8:28 PM
@Quintec I actually really like Opera
For whatever reason, chrome runs like crap on my laptop, but fine on all my other devices. So I use Opera on my laptop, and it's great

8:50 PM
@DJMcMayhem Opera works fine for me, I just really dislike the left sidebar.

TFW you intend to solve a challenge all day long but you first try to finish your seemingly endless maths homework, but then you're not in the mood to solve the challenge anymore :(

Ah, so it ain't just America that does that.

I've been given no more, no less than 21 exercises, 8 of which were hard af (they were all referenced in the bibliography from national or regional olympiads D:)
Took me 8 hours and I still have 5 left

And here, they give you easy, meaningless af drills.

9:05 PM
That happens on other subjects here quite often, but the maths homework is usually not so trivial

... Romania's school system sounds amazing to me.

It often is quite cool but it can also be a pita sometimes.
Because you're forced to learn some extremely non-useful details on subjects you didn't even want to study in the first place

That's school in general.

@Mr.Xcoder I'm not entirely sure what that's supposed to mean... lol

Romanian for pain or something, I think

9:09 PM
Ah, clueless American here.

No, PITA!

Oh. Clueless American here.

Scroll down to definition 7 ^.^

Eugh :/

O_O
Would've been funnier if it was Romanian slang for something.

9:28 PM
Anyone know what the fastest way to convert a large UTF-32 encoded file to UTF-8?

No.

Lmao

We have a logging utility, and someone was upgrading it to support unicode. Except they did this by storing strings as arrays of unicode code points, and then forgot about it, and now we have a bunch of UTF-32 logs.
'cause no one's actually checked the logs in forever

O_O

I could write my own thing but I'm lazy and was hoping someone knew of an existing utility

iconv will probably work

yay
